Hi, I'm David and I like to do crosswords, specifically the New York Times Crossword.
Usually I can do the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The other days of the week are much tougher and I can sometimes solve those. Maybe I'll get a nice long streak of solves going.

Toupee = Made do was a groaner!
That was a fun theme they did today with the longandshort
Think the instrument is a sousaphone which is like a French horn
Nice, fast solve!
Ngl, the trail mix nut situation was a hard watch
I'm glad it was short lived.
Hope you had fun voting! The spirals are names of cities in California, there are 4 of them ergo California Roll. Bottom Left "Long Beach", Bottom Right "Pasadena", Top Right, "Cupertino", top left "San Diego"
Ahh.. i didn't have time to suss that out. Thanks for the explanation!
Good solve. Have a nice week.
You flew through that one! And Roald Dahl making an appearance only a couple of days after the Charlie Bucket clue :)
There is a bump or a raise in every money-meaning word (in circles). One of the letters is higher. That's the "pay bump". 🙂 I think you mentioned something about it at some point, but I'm not sure. Once again, hats off for the maker of this puzzle. Think about the amount of things that need to come together: - the long words, as usual, are located symmetrically in the grid - each of those have in them one of the PAYBUMP letters - those words also need to have a money-meaning word in them, minus that one letter that needs to be replaced by the letter from PAYBUMP - the missing letter of the money-meaning word needs to be located right above that PAYBUMP letter - so the vertical words need to have that missing letter and the PAYBUMP letter in them one after the other I often feel like a mini documentary should be filmed about making each of these masterpieces. Yet, these guys just compose a great puzzle after a great puzzle, and hardly anyone even thinks about how hard they are to make. 🙂
It was a great puzzle. Kudos to the creator! I thought the theme was fairly straight forward but I enjoyed it.
Sorry, seem to be commenting a lot (my apologies) but the hat dance I knew from looney toons with Speedy Gonzales (amazing where you learn things from )
Comment more if you'd like!
And “on a lot but not worth a lot” is another of those beautifully worded clues that I adore.
Yes, great clue.
In line with Saturday’s, there are some beautiful oast houses in Dorset to visit. The whole south west of England has many.
Sounds great I'll have to visit.
@@DavidDoesCrosswords in that area, the accent makes the locals sound like pirates! (Just look up “Somerset accent” and you’ll see what I mean)
Oh ok... i can see that
In addition to my comment about the British things, arc lamps get mentioned a lot in literature with a British bent. I’m currently listening to the audio readings of the complete Sherlock Holmes stories and I’m sure they’ve been mentioned more than once :)
Good to know!
As a Brit, Billy Bragg and Dorset were screaming out at me (although Bragg would be a tough one as I don’t think he had ever had success outside the U.K.)
That must have been painful
@@DavidDoesCrosswords when you had DARSET for a while I was almost crying (although if you are from Dorset, the local accent does make it sound a bit like “DARSET”🤪
Hilarious 😂

OMG COLDCALL
not CLassical guitar ?? what - you should get some of his recordings!
… Yes, the Cincinnati Reds baseball team changed its name to the Redlegs from 1953 to 1959 due to the Red Scare
pull-up is palindromic ! neat
Welcome back!
Ty
When you only had the final “P” for the clue #2…. I thought the answer was “poop” 🤪
Haha
The golden retriever/chocolate lab clue is truly brilliant! Kudos to the writer of that!
I didn't understand that one, please explain
@ Charlie bucket is the main character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory who receives a golden ticket and ends up owning the chocolate factory (or chocolate laboratory)
@radar1974 ahh.. ok had a feeling that was it. Didn't know last name.
I left a comment earlier, but now I don't see it ... Nice solve, David -- good to have you back! ROD did slow you down a bit, but you did great on the long words.
Thanks man! Yeah I'm happy with the solve though!
Glad to see you back!
Ty
Welcome back! I've missed your videos!
Thanks! Sorry about that. I needed some time off.
@@DavidDoesCrosswords No need to apologize, we all need a break sometimes! I did get a bit worried because in your last video you said, see you tomorrow and then no video, so I thought something had happened.
Welcome back!
Thanks!
I'm with you on ROWR. It is usually RAWR... Well done. Have a good weekend!
Yes! Thanks you too
“I like wheneever I start the video
Whew, you were on fire today! I *think* the Broke trail = Led is referencing the way that the person leading the way down a completely new path has to clear the way behind them? Maybe a bit of a stretch there, but kind of works.
No I think that's right

Thanks
The dummies books are a massive series of guides on almost every subject (usually with a yellow and black cover)
I also like with vicar you said “is this an “O” or and “E”….. when it was neither :)
Ahh ok.
YDay's FDay Crossword Puzzle fairly easy to get thru; This SADay one not so. Plus The Saturday Stumper from Newsday the easiest in quite a while. Plus seeing these layered stacks of 15-letter answers on top and corresponding bottom a welcome sight after not seeing any in quite a while. Those can still come out (without duplicating another cluer's lucky strike,), yes?
I was with you until the last sentence. Please explain.
Great job on what I think was the hardest puzzle in months!
Thanks! It was tough
The goddess of the moon is Selene so that is where the name of the insectoid beings on the moon comes from
Makes sense!
AZUL
I wasn't sure what you were going to find by doing a search on "edge lord" I don't think ever result would have been family friendly 👀
RT= Right tackle
Clues like 19 across are some of my least favorite since you can’t really answer it with any degree of confidence on the first pass. Also, they’ve been leaning into ETTU even more than usual lately. “Et tu, Brian Eno? Ono!”
You know it's some combination of haha, hehe, hehheh, teehee, etc. But I know what you mean
Great solve! HAHHAH really helped. The four parts of WORDCHOICE are W, OR, D, CHOICE. Tip of the day: Sometimes I think you should ask, "What letter can possibly go here?" In 13 Down, for example, you had a word that ended D -- E S. When I see something like this (and I can see that it's just one word), I would say "This can only be I, E, O, U or Y." You had "A" in there for a while and it messed you up.
Good tip! Thanks
Parsed into four parts, the revealer says "W or D choice," referring to all the circled squares in which you can choose a W or a D.
Ahh of course!
Two Pig Latin words that have entered mainstream American English are "ixnay" or "icksnay", the Pig Latin version of "nix" (itself a borrowing of German nichts), which is used as a general negative; and "amscray", Pig Latin for "scram", meaning "go away" or "get out of here".

@@DavidDoesCrosswords my auntie used to have a peacock and three peahens. Not your usual pets but she had a lot of land for them to roam. :)
Hi, just played a geoguessr match against you, nice yt channel
Thankyou so much! Nice playing with you.
No idea what enby is, but I was very curious when you'd circle back round to "vare", lol.
Enby = N.B. = non-binary, or outside of the gender binary of male vs female.
ah yes, i did know that. couldn't think of it in the moment. thanks!
Is it common in US crosswords that when you have a multiple word solution you aren’t warned? U.K. crosswords would have things like “GEGS (9,4)” as a clue.
I haven't seen that before
@@DavidDoesCrosswords must be a U.K. thing :)
@@DavidDoesCrosswords (I assume you solved the clue GEGS (9,4)? )
It was funny when you said “swagger” several times but gave up when you thought it didn’t fit :)
That bottom left was tricky
@@DavidDoesCrosswords you were also dancing around “at a guess” and “as a guess” and “at a glance” for quite a while. The clues to provide extra help were tricky. Never knew gods/goddesses named their shields! :)
That's the only one I was vaguely aware of
