My 7yr old has it. I noticed a decline in his speech around 12 months. My kid was an early learner and was full-on walking by 9 months so i knew something was up. I fought with his dr and ended up calling a specialist myself. He was enrolled into a program that gave him various therapies and after not talking at all, was talking again at 3. He still has some issues, but he is thriving! He's doing good in school and has lots of friends. I noticed the same issues arising in my now, 22 month old son around 12 months as well. Same thing, was learning fast, talking in sentences, walking early, them a steady decline. Its heart-breaking honestly especially when I realized they got it from me. I had no idea. My younger son started therapy last week so I'm hoping they can help him as well.

I was the opposite of Valerie, I knew that something was different with my son but my family and friends said that nothing was wrong. This was back in 2007 so I had no idea what Autism was. I cried when they told me, I was terrified. My son is approaching 17 and is an honor student who will be going to college for chemical engineering 😊

I'm autistic too :)) I get it :'/ sensory overload is tough. I like to think that it's not because there's anything wrong with us, but the world around us is designed to be inaccessible. There's lots of new autistic led theories coming out about it - my favourite is the double empathy theory. I also lined my toys up sometimes. I'd usually really carefully set up a game, put together a little shop scene etc, but then never get round to playing. How do you find making and keeping friends?

I am from Northern Ireland. I was diagnosed just a few years before this newscast was originally broadcast. According to a news report that has since been deleted but I was lucky enough to see 2 years before it was deleted, I didn’t develop normally and I was late in many developmental milestones, such as holding my head up, babbling, crawling, etc. I didn’t talk until I was 3. I have attended a Mainstream school since the age of 3 (albeit in an Autism class with mainstream integration for some parts of the day, like some other people in the same class). I was in two Special Education classes (one from P1-P4 and one from P5-P7). Just like I just said, many people in these Autism classes, including myself, were integrated into mainstream for some parts of the day. I’ve basically had the best of both worlds for about 10 years, since I started primary school in 2011. I thank all the people who have supported me in Primary School and Secondary School. Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Outside of school, I only had a few friends (mostly ones who lived in the same street) who were nice to me and enjoyed my company. Some of those friends were friends with my sisters (I have 3 sisters, 1 older 2 younger, I’m the only boy in the house), and some of them are teenage boys like me. One of them, who we’ll only call “D”, lives in the street I currently live in. From the day we met (which was a few days after I moved into my current house), we were good friends and we got along well. I haven’t seen him in a long time. All of these outside-of-school friends are neurotypical, and yet we still got along okay. Another friend, who we’ll call “K”, was only mean to me once. The rest of the time, he was nice to me. We talked about our interests, made stop motion videos, played video games and had fun. It was nice. Any other person outside of school, or any non-autistic person at school who wasn’t in my Mainstream integration group would either ignore me, make fun of my autism or just be confused by me. The people in my Integration group were the only Mainstream people who didn’t bully me until I got to Secondary school. I didn’t really talk to many Mainstream people who weren’t in my Integration group anyway. It was only when I reached secondary school when this stopped. For a brief while in P5, I was in my Integration group full time, however I couldn’t really cope so they took me out of there not long after. However, my P5 mainstream teacher (who we’ll call Mrs K) continued to be my integration teacher for the rest of the school year. Looks like Autism support mixed with Mainstream integration was the best thing for me in the end. I’m now in Year 11, where the Learning Support centre at my school is called “Learning Centre”. Once again, I’ve had some Mainstream integration for some parts of the day as well as learning support classes. I’m doing some Entry Level subjects and 5 GCSEs. I think I am well fit to do these things. Although everyone with Autism is different, I think the support in school and the support my family have always given me at home, along with me being diagnosed early, have made me the person I am today.

I have 8 children of my own, and all of them are normal children, so when my younger brother had his first child I noticed that his child had autism when he was 6mths because he was not developing the same way as my children did. I did research where I learned to understand that with persistence parents can really help their child, I wish they would make this information very widely available.

All meltdowns are temper tantrums. She is correct. You can check - give the child a painful spank at the first signs of "meltdown", and pour a glass of cold water over his head - after three sessions like that the "meltdowns.- which are really temper tantrums aimed to control environment - will disappear.

I have a question for all Neurotypical people! Is Autism really the problem? let's take a look at where the suffering actually comes from and then you may just change the way you act and think about Autism! What is a disability? Is it something that causes disadvantages and limitations? Well open your eyes, is that not humanity? Do disabilities give advantages and remarkable gifts? No. Well, those of us Autistic can hyper-focus, are critically detailed, remarkable memories and more, not one neurotypical person is capable of so much we can do. So, being Neurotypical gives you disadvantages, are you disabled? We'll return to this soon! Those of you not Autistic lack the natural understanding of how to communicate and interact with autistic people. So, doesn't that mean you have communication and interaction deficits? Autism does not cause communication and interaction deficits, you simply are too lazy to learn how to understand us, so you force us to understand you. Some autistic people are hypersensitive, is it kind and thoughtful of you to bombard the environment with bright lights and loud noises for your own pleasure? No, that's careless and selfish of you. Is the medical model really designed to help those of us Autistic? or is it just another selfish movement to make Autistic people be the way you want us to be? The cost of your selfish medical model is Autistic people being over 10x more likely than the general population to die by suicide because of thwarted belonging. Denial of self-expression causes depression, you forcing us to mask is denial of self-expression. Is it kind of you to depress and encourage Autistic people to commit suicide? I don't think so. Everything about those of us Autistic you label as a deficit can be reflected right back on to you! Obsessive interests, you've got an obsession with socializing. Can't accept another's perspective, you can't accept an Autistic person's perspective. We give an honest opinion and you can't accept our opinion if it upsets you. Autistic people lack empathy, you lack empathy for us. Those of you who mistreat Autistic people and prejudge are nothing but a group of fearful hypocrites, all the suffering Autistic people face is thanks to your fear of diversity. Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia etc. are not diseases, disabilities nor deficits. They are part of "The Human-Ability Spectrum", "The Human Spectrum", all these neurological differences give advantages as well, abilities. Why is it hypophisised that 90% of the technological inventions we have today came from minds of people on the Autism Spectrum? Why are the IT Companies who only employ Autistic people more than twice as successful than any Neurotypical company? Talking about Autistic children and treatments, rather than providing them treatments to do what you want them to do, why not provide treatment to help them succeed, like treat them as people, as humans instead of treating them as if they're aliens? There's so many parents struggling to help their children, nothing the professionals told them helped them. How is it I as an Autistic person myself am able to help them successfully while the advice professionals give fails them? You're the creators of discrimination and racism, if you would stop being fearful of diversity, fearful of people you don't understand, you would stop causing divisions of The Human Spectrum then they would be no one to discriminate or be racist towards. People on the Autism Spectrum are not disabled, we are Differently-Abled, you're not "able", you're "enabled". Those of you who call yourselves "normal people" are the problem, no genome has a norm, the human genome is supposed to be different.

Thanks to everyone taking their time to read this testimony on how my son was saved from Autism. He was diagnosed four years ago, and he's just 6, I have tried several treatments and medications, nothing was working out, this got me frustrated and depressed. I kept praying and finally God answered my prayers when someone from youtube introduced me to this doctor from his home country and gave me his contact details. I called and explained my son's condition after which I made an order for his herbal remedy, he asked for my address and the next day I got a tracking number for a parcel sent to me through DHL and after four days I received my order. It was a liquid herbal medicine and a letter containing the instructions on how to use the herbs, I called him again to confirm and the next morning I started giving my son the herbs as instructed and after one week I noticed great improvement on my son and I continued until the herbs got finished and everything lasted for just one month and now my son is totally free from Autism, he can now talk clearly, behave normally and has no more seizures.
