Which kayak are you using
I am using the Oldtown Bigwater 132 or Predator is the old name for it.
Great video!
@@saltywalrusfishingcompany thanks man I felt a little rambly but it was all info I wanted to share so I kept it
@@earlybirdadventures8677 I always feel same about mine
@@saltywalrusfishingcompany hahaha 🤣😂
What do you use for your mainline?
@@robertromaszewski8379 on my kayak I am using 20-30lbs briad suffix 832, power pro, or blood run. And 20-25lbs mono for leader. Berkeley big game or ande premium mono
That's a big coho salmon, even for lake Michigan!
@@jaketokar9000 yah it was a blast! Especially since I am used to Lake Superior cohos
Nice catch what kayak do you have?
Thanks! Oldtown Bigwater. if your looking for used it is the same as an Oldtown Predator yak.
You know what they say! "It's all in the toes!"
Good catch. Throw 'im in the livewell.😊
hell yeah dude, love from norway!
Good catch
Thanks. What do you mean AMX? Addicted Fishing?
@@earlybirdadventures8677 its a tank
@@13studsCrab oh I get it now was not thinkg that train of logic. Hahaha sorry for the slow up take
What bait?
For which fish? The hot bait was a 3.0mag lip metallic gold flame. Got a few on a dragonslayer flasher with a frog fly.
Good job buddy looks like fun. What kayak and size?
Thanks. This one is an Old town Big water 132. It is 13ft2in if you look for older models it is also called Old Town Predator yak
Do you have any videos on making your personalized skirts with flash and tinsel type materials. Much prefer to make my own. Have used store bought rubber squid. It's good sometimes. But I prefer green flash, blue flash, pink flash, purple flash or combos of flash colors. Found real glass necklace beads at hobby lobby very reasonable.
no I am sorry i never got into making my own skirts. Tangled Tackle has tons of videos on their Youttube channel and they promote Purple Tackle Supply Company about their bse nylar shiny tinsle skirt material.
I was wondering what rods you use kayak trolling? I just ordered my own Bigwater and was curious. Thanks for the video!
So I think in a gear video I do break this down. For the kayak I prefer longish slow action rods. I like at least 8ft long rods for if the fish runs under the yak it is easier to flip the rod around the nose loaded up. And I like the slow action rods for the extra forgiveness netting the fish at the boat since the whole rod loads up it helps with not putting extra strain on the hooks close to the boat allows for a lot of head shakes that might not pull drag when we are putting the rod at weird angles while netting a big salmon or trout with flashers and pump handles dangling.
Umm sorry forgot to mention my rods by name I have the okuma Coldwater series rods they don't make anymore but the okuma white diamond series seems like their close or similar rod. I like them for the rod but has the built in grooves that help lock in my rod to the holder. The diawa great lakes series are also pretty good I have a lot of them on my big boat
@@earlybirdadventures8677 okay...I'm gonna look into them. I'm still trying to figure the whole trolling without downrigger thing out lol. I'm worried about not getting enough rod...too much etc.
@@rex_ad_regum7540 as long as you get a med trolling rod you will have plenty rod.
@@earlybirdadventures8677 So medium...check. I'm thinking about a Set of the Okuma Great Lakes Combos....any good?
The video I've been searching for. Subscribed. I fish Lake Ontario in a Kayak...buying a Bigwater myself. I see guys videos one of two places...the Ocean or some Dinky pond. The Great Lakes hit different.
Yes they do! I love my big water. If you have any rigging questions please ask. Still two years and I really haven't changed anything
@@earlybirdadventures8677 the track plates...they seem meh to me...are they good? Or should I go with the Pacific Yak Angler Upgrade? What about an Anchor Wizard? I don't see any flat real estate for mounting one...
@@rex_ad_regum7540 so I went with yak attack anchor trolly. I don't like anchor wizard. I have had no trouble with the track plates the have been handling the 12oz torpedo weights with flasher flys just fine. I guess I haven't used anything bigger then a 10in flasher though
@@rex_ad_regum7540 I do have the hd track base though that has two t bolts that might be the difference
@@earlybirdadventures8677 ok Cool, so they'll hold my trolling rods no issues and I don't gotta upgrade. Appreciate the info Sir
Love the vicious strike!
Oh yah nothing like it
Very nice!
thanks man! this was originally planned a 10 day trip, but life kicked me arcoss the head and I needed to head back north after only 3 days. It was still a blast and can't wait for next year!
True
That looks so peaceful
It is! love the simplicity and quiet
do you run the sam pro releases on your boards?
Yes best braid release and I like how the front falls back and I don't have to fight the board
Those are some very nice walleyes you are catching
What is the name of the lake your fishing is that lake Erie
Umm this was Lake Michigan out of the city of Milwaukee.
@@earlybirdadventures8677 oh okay thank you
Love too see it guys keep after it
Hamme!r good work boys!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks man!
Love your content as well
Audio is a little quiet on the voice over
Really? I upped it to 200% seemed fine on the render when I listened to it Wonder if the upload messed with it. Will keep in mind
Awesome!!! In my boat you don't pass off the rod. You snooze you lose, even if it means I'm catching your fish for you.
Yah I get that but here these are all inexperienced first timers so they had a rotation so all my friends got fish. If I had a more dedicated constant crew I would implement that. Also I am from NW Wisconsin this was a just visiting trip I drug my boat down to Milwaukee.
How do you like that Old Town Kayak?
I love it! I have used hobbies and they are good but for a tall stocky guy like me the Oldtown predator or Big water is my favorite kayak I have used.
Great video!
Thanks! Sorry for the delay drove down to Milwaukee today for friends Lake Michigan salmon
Really love your content sir!! Out of curiosity what did you have for surface temperature in that location?
It varied greatly all weekend but this particular day I was target 46 deg surface temp but fished some 50 too.
Thanks for the compliment I try to put a more technical take on the fishing and don't do much b-roll so feels good someone enjoy it.
We fished that Saturday of memorial 15 miles or so east of your location , we were on a drop from 40-80ft the water went from 38 degrees on the shallow-47 degrees on the deeper fishing the top 10’ that is where the fish were and it was quite a productive day to say the least! My kids arms were tired after lunch, we had our first time where we had 4 lines go off at once! As close to a perfect day as one can get! Keep up the great videos and some time here I am gonna pull the trigger on a kayak! :)
@@wishiniwasfishin8164 yah took a couple people out Sunday morning in my big boat and I lost hair and sharpened already sharp hooks cause the coho and kings were hitting so aggressive we had moved out in about that 55-65fow closer to the boarder line but similar area went 5 for 12 and was sooo angry we pulled off at 11 due to all three of us just being too 🔥🥵.
Great video, it gets you excited when you see those rods bent over!
Yes it does! Or a good board takedown. Wish I could of explained better what we did but I think it was more right time right place pod of fish.
Good video. Nice fish
Thanks gunna try to release more this spring but been having a lot of camera/data transfer problems
Boat is not big enough for me, not even for ice fishing, big fat NOPE.
hahaha I get that! I love the quiet and is nice when I cant get a group for the Big Boat.
@Earlybird Adventures No group required here! All the room (safety) and quite just for me😁 Need less people and big boat for big fishy!s 🐟 🐠 🎣 🐡
@Earlybird Adventures Watching it again, and I can feel my hyperventilating panic wanting to kick in with the fear of falling in.
Holy multitasking, Batman! I would've grabbed the wrong pole! 😅
hahaha yah that salmon really wated into that other line but I got him in! They really have some shoulders on them this year!
nice catch, i've never had the patience for fishing
yah thats why i love trolling. if I am not trolling I am run and Gunning. So happy I can share the time I got my buddy into his PB Superior King.
Classic Nolan, not prepared with the proper net
Yah I usually try to have stuff prepared and on hand but the fish seem to always want to strike when you have your pants down
Nice fish. When were you catching them?
The video description says date of film was May 16th this year and we did a morning trip so launch soon after sunrise and fished till 11-12 I don't remember
Very cool. That was a giant king for Superior.
thanks. Yah couldnt be happier i got my friend onto one!
In the summer do you ever jig for lake trout?
I do once in awhile but I feel bad about dragging some of those giants up just to release them so i prefer to try and target salmon and browns. The hardest part is finding the structure to jig for them they take a lot of simple things.
Dude that guy nearly screwed it all up driving right behind your boat like that?!? Who crosses behind a boat like that with a bunch of lines in the water?? Huggge king!!! Congrats!!!!!
Thanks! Yah that is why you should always go in front of a boat trolling so you don't screw with their lines. He was way too close for having the entire Lake Superior to go
How do like the stealth core line you mentioned? Been doing some research and sounds legit. Have you noticed a better catch rate versus regular leadcore?
I can't comment fully on it since I haven't used it a ton yet hahaha. I set up some 5 color and two color ones and ended up fishing deeper with pump handles down in Milwaukee. Will say this the big browns this spring would not leave it alone and down in Milwaukee the sat morning with my friends we had a big king double on my ff 5color and we were the only boat that got a 5color to go at the cleaning station which had a line. Also just caught a 34in Lake superior giant King on a 5color stealth so I am really starting to like it
So awesome. What channel to do use to try to tell boats to be smart?
try 16 and 9
Nicely done - Is early June the Time you would recommend for a guy that lives in South Dakota to pull my boat to Sheboygan for some King fishing?
umm i would normaly say yes. this year was wierd since the water was soo cold so we went to milwaukee this year. June thru july is salmon time for sheboygan, but june the salmon should be closer to shore so you shouldnt have to go 15-20 miles off shore. i live in nw wisconsin so it is still a 5.5hr drive for me so i only get there once a year too hahaha wish i lived closer.
Thinking about fishing out of fairport michigan next week any reports from fairport?
No sorry I live in NW Wisconsin and I haven't fished the Michigan side at all I would look at tangled tackles weekly fishing reports on UA-cam.
Fairport is northwest side of the lake that is why I asked. Thanks for the reply. Good luck fishing!
Fishing from a kayak takes some multitasking! How long it take you to paddle to isle royale ? 🤪
Hahaha we took the ferry 🤣. Yes it does and the filming adds a whole nother thing kinda a pain trying to keep my huge Lakers hoop net on the front with my cam boom but I make it work
@@earlybirdadventures8677 Isle Royale: a bucket list spot for me! I’ve been kicking around getting a kayak for couple years , for me to mostly fish when the ramps are iced up or to put in where there is open water in the winter months on superior. I really enjoy your content so keep up your good work and keep the kayak upright!!!😂👊🏻
@@wishiniwasfishin8164 thanks man it has been interesting for sure and life this last year mule kicked me sideways so didn't get many videos out but hopefully will pick up here especially for the fall fishing. I would extremely suggest a yak! I love mine and would suggest all the 12+ft oldtowns but there are a lot of good yaks on the market. This was also on my bucket list and my first trip there was amazing.
What lake are you in?
youi ever tip out of the kayak?
Not on accident. I have come close when fishing deep and a big Lakers hits but no. Have done practice tips where I practice deep water entrys which I highly recommend doing.
@@earlybirdadventures8677 I see you out on those icy waters, and think thats out of my pay grade, Im going down to the mouth of the Brule, and try out in the lake for wallies.
@@johnanderson8705 hahaha yes it takes some prep and knowledge to fish the icy waters but that's when the salmon are the easiest to target.
Awesome trip, I might need to give up a walleye weekend to do this next year.
Yah was my first time out of Milwaukee and man was I surprised by the coho size! They were 3-4x bigger then Superior cohos hahaha 🤣.
These videos are awesome!!! Great content. I'm looking forward to trying to fish the Great Lakes for my first time. Please keep the content coming!
Thanks for saying so! Yah gunna get two more out hopefully soon. Got a video explaining what I did in this video and the first time I have been to isle royale. We kayak fished it. Not a ton of fish but it was sooo beautiful.
Thanks for sharing the great info and techniques. You boated a nice pile of fish.
Thanks man! Hope this helps some people. Sorry for the delay was kayak fishing isle royal and didn't have service.
@@earlybirdadventures8677 how was fishing out there?
@@LivinMNOutdoors slow only got 10 Lakers 25-28in and one just shy of 32in but was fun fighting those bodybuilder Lakers in my yak.
You must have missed the third fish for the triple on camera, was bad ass fishing with you that day!
Yah the waves messed that cam up put it in 4:3 mode instead of super view so you can't see the other rod going was sad to see that in edit
@@earlybirdadventures8677 ah yes... the camera curse strikes again lol. Pretty sure we had that discussion just that morning
@@earlybirdadventures8677 I will vouch for the triple if anyone questions it... I was just close enough to see the aftermath lol! Doubles are great but damn I've never had a triple... was cool to see
@@saltywalrusfishingcompany hahaha yes I have been having a lot of cam troubles lately really lost a lot of footage from my Sheboygan trip recently bought new SD cards hope that helps will see for my isle royal trip
@@earlybirdadventures8677 how was that sheboygan trip? I'm hearing so many mixed reports from there and north....
Great to see those steelhead!
Yah it was usually don't get into a mess of them unless it's fall was extremely happy and all were legal sized steelies except on was 25.5 in
What kind of camera is the one on the front.... wide view.... great video
Thanks! It is a GoPro hero 7 black on a ram tough pole 48in mounted on the removable plastic plates.
