Empire Brass, Virgen de la Macarena
When empire brass was in Russia I believe in 198x was an explosion in russian brass community of such an amazing and unforgettable performance...absolutely enjoyed such a fantastic performance. Thanks for sharing...❤
Did Martin ever miss a note? Jeff your ability to compliment Rolf was perfection. Your tenure was by far the best years for the EBQ musically as well as that 80's Hair Band Style! Thank You for everything! (EBQ seminar '89)
スコット・ハートマン先生には25年前に日本🇯🇵でトロンボーンを習いました。優しい人柄が素敵な先生でした!
Rolf’s tone, technique & phrasing were remarkable. And yet there’s component missing. Call it spirituality, romance, humility, gratitude. I don’t know. But his determination to win at all costs prevents him from making a connection with the listener in a way that, say, a Charlier etude of Håkan can.
There’s a fascinating YT post with Empire playing an open rehearsal at Tanglewood in 88 or 89. It was filmed very nicely on a camcorder by Jon Dante (actually by his mom!)
Fantastisch
Samuel Pillaphan is perfect.
This is how to play in a brass quintet. 👍🏽👍🏽🎼🎶
Great rendition Scott, always the musician. I miss playing with you.
Well, if you start with a brilliant composer, and add a brilliant arranger, and then add brilliant brass musicians, this is the result. First rate.
What kind of piccolo trumpet is he playing?
It's in a reply to cindypollard above
The hair is immaculate.
splendidi come sempre bravissimi eccellente quintetto
Glorious as always! I miss "THIS" group.
Thanks for posting these Jeff. This recording was the first CD I ever owned as a senior in high school and it changed EVERYTHING for me.
When I was a high school student in Sendai, Japan, they came in our prefecture to have a concert. Before starting their live, Rolf and Sam, and all the members taught and answers on playing brass instruments! Everybody were so kind, especially Rolf was excessively so kind to tell me how to make beautiful sound and making high notes! Like a sunshine! The lady of Macarena was my favorite!
The best. I had the pleasure of interviewing Rolf.
Fantastic!
Charlie Gibson noted that it was a "great tuba tune" because he was a pretty fair tuba player himself before he went into journalism.
Yup!
Is that Marty Hackleman on horn?
Yes.
Pretty good
Bravo.
GOAT
Bravo, guys. I miss you.
He must’ve been testing bachs🤣
Wonderful! Screaming all brass version - What a Wonderful World: ua-cam.com/video/euadhe7oW0o/v-deo.html

I come back to this recording frequently to remember what the gold standard for brass quintet is. You guys are the greatest there ever was.
Gold standard is right.
in the Handel period the keeless trumpet play trill?
Great whistling music.
Spectacular group and beautiful playing!!

We're these guys on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood back in the 80s? It seems as if I remember seeing then on there! Can someone please confirm or deny?

?
Poor Sam has to tote that tuba like an appliance mover climbing a flight of stairs

Sam is crazy good. Man. Brass at absolute perfection. How few people really know how hard that tuba part is. A chop buster. And to keep that air coming without losing tempo or passing out.
esto una joya de video para la historia , en mis inicios tocando trompeta un amigo me obsequio una grabación de los conciertos del empire brass en Venezuela, son estos mismos videos. su música marco mi vida , es bueno verlos en video ,gracias por compartir
Love the little Siegfried Short Call in the horn part!
Let me admit how much better it sounded at the Lincoln Theater at Hartford University. They have a real good music school there, but I was just attending the music camp.
Muy lindo. Gracias
Can the hair dresser get a shout out?
The horn is stunning
The horn player must surely be Martin (Marty) Hackleman.
@@foreststewart1968 Yes, that is Marty!
absoloutly exquisite i cannot begin to express how beautiful this trumpet orchestal was it makes my ears erupt with happiness
Handel should be proud & happy after listening this excellent performance...
Yo where can I get hair like that!
Best brass chamber group of all time.
Thank you for this, scenes of the orchestra, the Academy, and the Kimmel Center are an exquisite collage of memories
they are amazing but trombone player has the worst haircut player ever
