Why Naruto Embodies the Perfect Fool Archetype | A Retrospective
RE-UPLOAD: Episode 9 of Season 1 (original premiere was May 28th, 2024). There was a copyright issue after TV Tokyo rejected my dispute. I trimmed the claimed segment but once UA-cam had processed the new video it got blocked in over 200 territories. Video became unsalvageable. If the red text to confuse content ID is a bit too much for you, the Rumble version is unaffected and still up and running.
A thorough look at Naruto's complete journey and it symbolic meaning. I also break down Naruto's narrative structure and how to write for it.

    The Acolyte is so broken that you have to tear it down to the base components, toss out half of them, then use the remainder and an equal amount of new material to create something completely different. It's like the writers slapped together the fragments of half a dozen other stories with no concern if they fit together at all and rushed it out for an arbitrary deadline, hoping that throwing enough money at it would patch the holes.

    Am writing a story. I have everything figured out . The characters, their flaws, the magic system, the world building, the conflict and others. But the story feels like it's missing something that can tie the whole thing together. I have even rewritten it many times I like what you did with the attack on Titan story, so am wondering if you can give me any advice or tips

    • @NarrativeArcade
      @NarrativeArcade 7 днів тому

      I need more info. Have you started to write the story? Because whatever it's missing, it usually comes out in the writing. The initial preparation is just to have a story map. So you can connect the dots and get to 'The End'. Also, when you say "something that can tie the whole thing together," that sounds like a missing designing principle. The designing principle is supposed to tie it all together. Are you writing a novel or screenplay? There is also the concept of 'unity' in screenwriting. Basically, once you've assembled all your pieces, you take a break from the script for a week or two and then come back and take a look if everything is adding to the 'unity'. As in, does all this stuff fit together, if not, you might need to make some changes. Swap character motivations or plotlines, whichever gives you a sense of "it's not adding to unity".

      @@NarrativeArcade A novel PREMISE - A young optimistic man tries to better himself and the world around him, while providing for his family DESIGNING PRINCIPLE - A young man must use his experience and knowledge to better the world without succumbing to the harsh reality of the world and human nature THEME - Good and Evil are two sides of the same coin and should not be viewed separately The story starts The boys has always been bullied because of his weird way of doing things and as a result he gained a strong sense of justice distinguishing everything in either good or bad and then suddenly a small nuclear explosion happens in his hometown while he was away with his mom and friend as they went to a market in the next town. Upon hearing it and seeing the mushroom crowd he rushed home when he saw people running away he wanted to run in to check if his younger sister, twin brother and dad were caught in the explosion, but he was stopped by his mom as he would die if he entered the fire. The boy also seeing people's flesh burning and melting as they were trying to escape the explosion. After the fire was put out and radiation was checked it was confirmed to be safe and that's where the boy saw his father holding his twin and sister body while they were burnt alive . Fast forward years later. The boys is grown up with a family of his own and trying to make ends meet and and that his friends that went out with him and his mother to the market that day who also lost his parents and siblings tries to convince him to join an organization that wants to actually target the organization that caused the explosion years ago, but the protagonist isn't really interested and has left that life behind as he says, but his friend is persistent telling him don't you want to make that person that killed your twin brother and sister pay, but he still says am done with that life, the friend also tells him that they pay very well and that it can help solve his family problem, he still says no, and then his friends leaves and tells him to call him when he changes his mind, and then the landlord comes for the rent and he says fuck it Let me just do it. It's like killing two bird with one stone I get money and bring the people who destroyed many peoples life to justice And so he calls him, they go through training and he qualifies, one of the requirements is that outsiders that are not in from the army should have a family ( must have atleast a child ). And then given a handbook of the abilities they know and what are they weaknesses and abilities they have a disadvantage or advantage over ( the name of their magic system is atom manipulation ) by manipulating their atoms they can do certain things like by rearranging their molecules they can reinforce their atomic bonds giving their increased durability, strength or increased density and as they they can only control the atoms in their body they can only cover a small portion of their body but can shift it to any direction. Also note that by reinforcing a particular side you take the atoms of a particular regions to reinforce another leaving that side very fragile that touching it might even cause bodily harm thereby leaving the organs unprotected to any fragile attack. Other abilities from the atomic manipulation is generating fire which you can shoot out of your body by vibrating your molecules or atoms fastabd then using the heat as fire, but it does have a downside you see if you vibrating your molecules to generate fire you end up becoming thin as you chip away at the atoms or you can freeze to death as you need some hear in your body to function, as well as the other abilities like gravity control, forcefield generation, phasing, nuclear and so on. And they are given a drug to allow them to use their powers fully as citizens abilities are suppressed because of what happened when people first gained their abilities So during their first mission which was to destroy a factory which was being used by the terrorist everything was going well, until a group of people came and attacked killing the protagonist and when the friend tried to fight back he died too, the mission was interrupted by another group after hearing that the organization senrbtheor more capable force to help get them out of their, but then they saw a large monsters body which appeared like out of thin air , and the leader heard about it he decided to handle the monster by destroying three of it's four heart and reverted back to the protagonist and so he was taken back to the headquarters and so the government started doing research on his family Afterwards the head of the five nations had a meeting that they sighted a monster and it disappeared without them seeing the corpse or smoke of the dead monsters body like 11 years, the head of the nation that took the boy said they don't know of any monster, but the other monster didn't believe at all and decided to let the matter go for now So afterwards the protagonist when the protagonist woke up from his concussion he was was surprised that he was awake and so he asked whether the mission was a success and they said yes, also what about his friend, they said he died, my guy was shocked and was like If I can remember I got cut in half and decided to check his body and saw a line on it that had been healed and was like how and afterwards immediately asked can he go now and can they send him his money now . They sent him his money and said he couldn't go as the government has an interest in him while giving an injection. They said he could live his normal life, hut he would now work for the government and will be getting paid. After which he was assigned to another squad as most of the his team mates had died and was warned by some of the members of the group to keep his idealogy to yourself as they believe he was the cause of his groups death ( he was preaching to them that they should capture the enemy alive and not kill any of them ) One of the teammates approached him and befriends him causing him a small him a small injury The protagonist heads home for the day and pays the house rent, when he reaches he asks his wife where his daughter is and she says they are playing and hide and seeks and he says can't you find her, she says I know where you she is I just want her to think she can hide and he asks where is she she tells him and he goes and find her saying I found you, the daughter says mom you see, you couldn't find me but dad did, the mon says in her mind that it's because I told him and he tells his wife that his found a new job working for the government and his paid the house rent and she was like in a single day, hmmm 🤔 it's like we might move to a better place these one a single pay can cover our house rent Fast-forwad at night he has a nightmare of his friend dying crying for help, why didn't you save me, you left there to die. Also his twin brother and sister crying as they were getting burnt alive, also a man crying what did I do to you to deserve these. Have I done you any wrong and anyone wrong, so why punish me. He wakes up and washes his face and goes back to sleep. The next mission to stop destroy a warehouse where terrorist use as their hideout, the mission is a success they go and their they find out that the warehouse was used to manufacture robots, upon destroying the robot the man they find their says that they are coming and they will over us soon and before he can utter any other word he is killed, the next day, there's an attack on their country it's the robot, the team fight and while also loosing some team mates

    There is a book series called The Galaxy’s Edge (NOT the Star Wars series) by Nick Cole and Jason Anspach that I believe fits the Paleo-Cosmic Epic genre you’ve described here, and in particular the Lone Operator sub-series within the universe they’ve created would be extraordinarily well suited to a film adaptation

    Love this series man! Although I don't know how important is building the story alongside gameplay in a medium where many will keep playing so long as the game is fun. Now you've got me curious for your take on TLOU PII because, while I dropped the game halfway through I thought the first half was great. But then it ends on a cliffhanger and I couldn't be bothered to see the other side from the second character in the game. I was just not interested. The best way I can describe it is that the narrative worked (during the first half) within the context of playing a character you've known since the first game, so there's a strong relationship with what I see as the central theme of the game, revenge. I don't share those same feelings when we shift focus because this other character feels like a complete stranger, just couldn't connect to her backstory or motivation. And while I sympathize with her story, I feel nothing. So, narrative TLOU 1 > TLOU 2 but gameplay wise TLOU 1 < TLOU 2.

    • @NarrativeArcade
      @NarrativeArcade 7 днів тому

      "in a medium where many will keep playing so long as the game is fun." I think that's true for movies too though. Most people don't understand the visual language on screen. Just watch any cinematography breakdown, most people don't understand why the director chose to jump the 180 line at this moment in the scene but they will feel it. They enjoy it on an unconscious level because it's visual storytelling. Same will happen with gameplay for most people. Think that's fine, technically when you do your job right as a storyteller, it shouldn't be obvious you're experiencing a story. You're experiencing the story vicariously through the characters. Regarding, TLOU 2, unfortunately we'll never know because I wouldn't even play it if I was paid to do so. I hate what Druckmann did, he's the Rian Johnson of gaming lol

    I find the focus of games on the player's avatar for story quite misleading. One of the best aspects of games is that they can take the player's input into account and are not reliant on telling the story of the avatar and only that one character like films or books. One of the reasons I liked "Sorcery!" by Inkle. Because the character was able to develop a lot of personality despite being a blank character in theory. Or slay the spire and the personality with the card deck. Games can just focus on the theme with gameplay the story of the Avatar is formed with the action of the player on the side as a mirror of the player. Or to take Brian Mcdonald word the Invisible Ink. the Armature (still very stupid word but yeah) Teaching the player something through the development of his avatar is nice. But I think teaching the player something directly is a better goal for games to achieve a higher level of storytelling making the player the focus of the problem not Samus/Link/Mario etc.

    Few do story telling in video games better than From Software. Some people think it's cryptic and confusing and I would agree if you try to piece the whole story together through cutscenes alone. So much of the game's stories are in level design and gameplay.

    One of the things 343 really did right and what I most respect them for, starting with halo 4 and building on it in Infinite, was introducing the theme of failure to Chief’s character. He may be the best humanity has to offer, an evolution even, but he’s still not a perfect machine. That was the correct approach to humanizing the character. Not showing his face.

    For a story like this what I think what this analysis misses is how they stack different facets of the story on top of each other, which I thought would be mentioned in the character web section but didn't. Sigh. Also on the surface Peterson's quote is fitting here, but the situation is much more complex than that regarding Eren's character, which partly due to almost no western contemplative media have a good grasp for the subject of divine or eternal conflicts, embodied in human form. But when any show take this route it's a risk for both authors and readers. For example, how would a man lived 1000 years' perception and world view look like? Movie "The Man from Earth" although got a lot praise but did a terrible job. In Eren's case, to reduce his motivations down to childish impulse and vengeance is too superficial. The plot already implied that Ymir, as an embodiment of fixation/attachment of "obedient love" needed to be resolved here by reenact the scene once more, which is to let Eren become the King Fritz of ultra destruction once again, and let his faithful lover Mikasa kill him to dissolve this attachment. Otherwise, the attachment would be ignored and Ymir would just play this out time and time again, bring the world into spiral of desperation. So for Eren, the only conclusion he got is to face this head on and let this drama play out in front of Ymir to end this cycle once for all, so Peterson's advices of "look at the abyss and keep on looking, you would see the light" is more fitting here. Your failure of linking this together is not entirely up to you, but also the author's problem of not punctuating enough on this, the deep sorrow of 2000 years suffering is not felt enough. But to be honest, I do not know how to fix this, since to make this too explicit would also reduce the power of eternity, and the point is felt emotion, not logic exposition. Also Eren's confusion regarding future/past all mixed together suffered the same problem, it's on point but not salient enough for the audience to really absorb. I caught this only because I spent a lot of time on this topic and had related experience through psychedelics, so I can say it's "on point", but to anyone who do not had this kind of influence, through ancient religious texts, historical opera, or psychedelic experiences, I don't know how to communicate that - maybe aside from top execution between music, animation, but stack layer upon layer of meaning on top of each other, would gave you more taste of the sacred.
