Adventures in Rock Hunting, Cutting and Polishing with some useful . . . and . . . not so useful tips along the way.
Based in Yanchep, Western Australia, every few months I'll take off and go looking for interesting and colourful rocks (we have some beautiful rocks here in WA) bring them home, cut, shape and tumble them to (hopefully) end up with some magnificent gemstones.

I would normally cut and pre-shape my rocks before tumble polishing but I just don't have the time lately so these rocks from a recent hunt in the north of Western Australia were thrown straight into the tumblers as is. They're mainly Mookaite and Jaspers and they seemed to play together well without one beating up on the other. For more videos on finding, cutting and polishing all kinds of roc...

I was going to do part two of the Great Northern Rock Hunt as my next video but a small group of like minded rockhounds and myself did a quick trip south of Kalgoorlie to look for some different types of rocks and came back with some stunners so this video gets priority :) Some real beauties here including Malachite, Killaloe Jasper, Dendritic Opalite and something that may or may not be Chryso...

This video is from the Jasper dumps near Fields Find in Western Australia. Our club was meeting for a 10 day rock hunt at 5:00pm at nearby Warriedar Station so fellow rock collector Helen and myself decided we'd make a slight detour to collect some interesting Jaspers including Picture Jasper, Brecciated Jasper and Banded Jasper . . . we were not disappointed :)

It's been a bit chaotic work-wise since I returned from the club rock hunt (one of the drawbacks to taking two weeks off in the middle of the year I guess) but I finally got around to making a short video showing some of the highlights of what I returned with. I'll be uploading videos of the trip in the next few weeks so make sure to check in to see what turned out to be a terrific adventure wi...

Helen, a friend and fellow rockhounder recently returned from Agate Creek in Queensland and was kind enough to give me two buckets full of beautiful Agates . . . how lucky am I ? This video shows some of the highlights of the Agates that are already cracked and the magnificent banding inside. For more videos on finding, cutting and polishing all types of rocks as well as hints and tips on all t...

Some mega parcels of happyness right there!!! Thanks for sharing 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Mahnee 👍🤟👍
Hi Paul. I think the rocks you have found for me are just what I want❤️. Thank you very much 😊😊. I look forward to getting them to Denmark 👍👍. Best regards Jane
Glad you like them Jane, I'll email you shortly 👍🦘👍
Good if you can get there.
Yeah it's a bit of hike from SA . . . but if you're ever over here let me know 👍
Very nice.
👍😀
Nice collection.
Great rocks again.
The best finds.
This stuff has so many colours it looks like someone has flicked paint around on the rocks 😁
Great finds.
Yes, very happy with what we found, especially the Mookaite 👍
Looks like fun.
Heaps of fun ☺
Awesome adventure Paul ✌😎✌
Was terrific fun Mahnee, I have another three or four parts to follow 👍😁👍
What a beautiful spring. Looks like you had a nice trip.
It's a terrific time of the year for rock hunting here but it'll soon be too hot, I've picked you out some nice rocks and will post a video later to show you 👍
Thank u!!!
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed it ☺
Wonderful atmosphere in the group Paul, and some great finds as well. Thankyou for sharing it with us.
Thanks Gordon, yes they're a great bunch 👍
That looks like a lot of fun. Lots of great rock talk around the campfire. Beautiful rock finds. Such a beautiful place. Eww to the spider in the long drop, I'd be so worried about all the creepy crawlies, and snakes 😂😂.
😆yeah could have done without the audience in the toilet 😆but it was a great trip with some terrific people ☺
Beautiful rocks!
We're very lucky here in Western Australia ☺
Very cool! Thank for sharing Paul!
Thanks Theo, I hope you liked it ☺
I’m a fan of the breccia jasper, thanks for sharing, looks like a great adventure
It sure was Jeff, we ended up finding an even better Breccia patch, that will be about part four I think 🤔
How much fun! Such beautiful rocks for your collection. So jealous I wish i would have done this when I was younger.
Thank you, I wish I had started much younger too ☺
Oky
OMG they are stunning!
Yes, he's a good boy my son 😀
Would be great to see tennis ball size rock’s tumbled.. you certainly have the product there! Here in Michigan, everything is very small, marble sized 😢
I have done some fairly big pieces in the past, I should probably do some more . . . I'll add it to my already extensive list of things to do' 😁
These rocks are a lot cooler than the ones I would put in my pocket as a kid XD
😄I hope you're still picking up rocks 😀
Дуже гарні зразки мінералів 🎉🎉🎉
Так, це справді гарний камінь ☺
Wow
@@annettemoore9934 beautiful material to work with ☺
I wished I could give you my raw peridots to tumble them, but I am in northwest Europe 😂🙏🍀🌷
It really is such a pity that it costs so much to send stuff internationally, most times I send rocks it costs more for shipping than the rocks themselves 😕
Sometimes Tiger-iron's patterns remind me of city-scapes! Cut a few many years ago.
It sure is a fascinating rock 😀
Good video
Thank you ☺
As always a good video👍. Rainy weather greetings Jane
Thank you Jane, did you get my email ?
Hello Jane, I've just sent that email again, please let me know whether or not you get it 👍☺
@@paulhardie Yes Paul, I got your email 👍. By the way I had already seen that video. Now I just have to try to decide😃😃. I'll write to you again one of these days. Regards Jane
@@Udgaard01 no worries, just let me know once you decide what you'd like 👍
What's your location for the mining?
I'm in Western Australia, the Rose Quartz was a purchase from the local rock shop 👍
That's a beautiful pile of rough rock, I'd love to wash it down with a hose. Excellent video, beautiful polished stones.
Thank you Nicola, I do give them a quick rinse once I lay them out . . . they look much more colourful ☺
@@paulhardie everytime I go out to my pile of stones, I hose them 😂, I just love seeing them wet.
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 totally understand ☺
A nice batch of rocks there Paul, but looking at the tables many more to get through , have fun.
Thank you Gordon, if only it was just what's on the tables 😆
What size are your tubs?
The rotaries are 2x6lb and 2x3lb, the vibe is 10lb 👍
Oh what a great trip , i do like those rocks m8, nice.
It sure was a great trip . . . so much so we have another planned for the same location in three weeks 😁
Yes, very nice😊
Thank you ☺
💎😍🔥
☺😀😀☺
Дуже гарні зразки мінералів 🎉😊🎉
Да, у нас здесь есть красивые минералы. 👍😀
grandkids aint gonna have shit left to find
Grandkids aren't going to be allowed to find any "shit" we're quite possibly the last generation to actually be able to collect rocks . . . legally.
WOW WOW WOW!!!! Some stunning finds!!! What an awesome adventure ✌😊✌
Sure was Mahnee . . . and we're back there again in about a month 👍
@@paulhardie One day Im going to get over there but how im getting back with all my rocks i dont know hahahahaha
@@offyarocka let me know when you do 👍
That variscite is stunning!
Yes, it was a surprise it even survived all the other harder rocks 😃
Wooowwww its like a whole world inside wth
Yes, some terrific detail in these rocks 😀
Nice find thank you for posting
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it ☺
Well that was a very fruitful trip, found the Killaloe nest and all the other amazing rocks. The black Killaloe looks pretty stunning. Its trips like that with friends and amazing rocks that just make you say its great to be alive and sharing this adventure, well done Paul.
Thank you Gordon, yes it was always going to be a great trip but ended up being a GREAT trip 😁 Stoked to find that Killaloe site 👍
Looks like u found the killaloe u have been hunting for. Congratulations
You're right Anne . . . and very happy to do so 😁
Lepidolite or petalite ? Awesome finds 👍
Fair question Greg, to which I don't have an answer 😄 I do know that Lepidolite is found in the area we were . . . not sure about Petalite though 🤔
@@paulhardie I’m thinking petalite I’ve seen both in the Coolgardie museum and found them south of there lepidolite has more mica I’m no geologist love ya channel mate
You and me both, in fact I'm not a geologist's bootlace 😁thanks for the support 👍
Beautiful stuff, looks like a fun trip
Yes it was Jeff, good fun with good friends 😃
What an awesome video! ❤ from 🇨🇦
Thank you Minnie Mouse 🐭😁
Beautiful rocks... Love this so much.
So glad you enjoyed it ☺
I'm amazed by the variety you've found. Amazing beauties. Rock hunting with friends is the best! That Kilalo(sp?) looks so much like the Mozarkite I found in Missouri USA. One day I'll have to buy some from you to compare.
Most times I head out on my own but rock hunting with friends was fantastic 😀 I had to google Mozarkite . . . wow looks very nice 😯
Just started our first Mookaite Tumble batch. Thanks for showing us what to do Paul! What a star you are!🌟
Wow, that was quick, did you get one from the Prospectors Patch ? I'll add a link to a video that goes into a bit more detail below, it's one of my first videos so it's a little bit more amateurish but the info is better 😁 ua-cam.com/video/zQ64ij5-n64/v-deo.htmlsi=UEc4rqnooMSQZNku
That's a beaut there...
Yes, extremely happy to find some Malachite 👍
Oh wow that is stunning!!! fun hearing you out with mates hunting - usually I only see you solo - awesome
☺ While it's terrific fun being out there on my own it was great to be collecting with a few like minded friends 😃
