Depending on the type of sanding process, wood glue may not hold, especially for floor sanding or large surface sanding. Too much tension when the whole flat sanded surface meets (bites into the wood) the board. Furthermore, wood glue is not flexible. Will not hold for long. Clamping the joint with a piece of wood gives a thick joint, as thick at the sanded surface. This reduces the strength and flexibility of the joint that needs to go around the rollers on the machine.

And did it work? I see professional manufacturers use some kind of articial resin / epoxy. Not sure what's the best way. I think CA is not flexible enough for this kind of application.
