Crabbing Murray River

Catching big crabs using drop nets baited with chicken drumstick from a jetty and canoe - Murray River WA
Doha - Souq Waqif and Old Doha Port
Переглядів 21214 днів тому
We had a long flight layover in Doha and it worked out cheaper to stay a few days and have a look around rather than sit in the airport for many hours. The Souq Waqif markets were like stepping back in time and were absolutely fascinating and the Old Doha Port was fresh, bright and modern in an old Doha kind of way.

Free Camps - Green Hills and York (WA)
I have learned the hard way that palm trees are a total nuisance. One by one, I've gotten rid of almost all of mine.
Hi Jake palm trees were very popular in the eighties and then they grew and were a problem. Im still removing the big ones but I still like and have golden canes
@@doug_hardman I live in Southern California. Here, queen palms are very common. They are beautiful, but very high maintenance! I had three Senegal date palms on my property. I'm down to two now. They are horrific. And their frond spikes are like needle-sharp nails. Next week, I will remove a 20-year old triple king palm.
@ We learn from our mistakes and hopefully others will as well. But to be honest the palms were great for the first 15 or so years.
Such a beautiful place 😊❤
Hi Natalie Montreal was a lot of fun
Watching this episode on a muggy 35' south west (WA) day listening to bush fire warnings on the ABC. Swapping -1' in old Montreal for my location for a couple of days would be nice. I'll have to do with just watching.
Hi Ranger after Montreal we went to a warm Doha, but lucky for us it was only 26 degrees
looks like a interesting drive love the old wells
It is a great drive with a lot of very interesting and fascinating history. It would have been a tough life in those days.
Nice catch !
Thanks Irek
Excellent Doug. Great setting!
Hi Ros and Pete I just had crab entree before lunch and it was nice.
Good management of fishing rules might be paying off?
Hi Manta, yes big crabs so something is paying off.
They look pretty solid. I always crab early March down there for a good haul. It is early, alright.
Hi Stephen, yes very early for crabs and they are big.
@doug_hardman question Doug, is an RFL required for drop nets off a Kayak?. Just curious as I do have a licence for my power boat, but expires in March. Can't take my caravan and boat together obviously so looking at a Kayak as an alternative. Cheers mate, I love that Murray River.
@@stephenmurfit800 A RFL is not required if fishing from an unpowered boat eg canoes etc
Looks like a very nice spot 😊
Hi Natalie, yes it is a very nice place to crab.
Great to see that the crabs are around. It means the water is healthy. I'll have to see if I can get out to our local estuary. Thanks
Hi Ranger, yes good idea, get out there and catch a feed of crabs. The season appears to have started early so it may finish earlier than normal.
Gets lower as it gets heavier amazing stuff ❤❤
Great video doug
Thanks Gillie and thanks for watching
Good idea. We did the same in Dubai (which was a stop over anyway) a few years back to break up the long flight to Europe. It was well worth it and we arrived in Paris rested and refreshed ready for a holiday.
Hi Ranger yes the long flights are a real struggle and breaking the trip works well. We are not planning any long-haul flights, we are going to concentrate on the caravan for a while.
@@doug_hardman good plan. So are we. Long haul flights are an endurance test these days.
@@Ranger670 Yes they sure are, happy caravanning
Sorry about the mud, but welcome to my village.
Thanks Lenora we really enjoyed visiting Dravuni Island, a tropical paradise. Your lifestyle is very different to ours.
Looks like a bomb went off 😮
Hi Natalie, that's what I thought as well, but it was just a sunset
@@doug_hardman it’s like no sunset that I’ve ever seen before - amazing 🤩
Went to the Isle Of Pines in 2018. Also Mystery Island. We loved it
Hi Brian, we had a great time and the tropical islands are paradise
On this ship in august 2025 Canada Greenland thanks for the walk-through. I liked the music too 🚢 🇬🇱 🇨🇦
Thanks Jersey enjoy your cruise. If you would like to see more cruise videos have a look at - Doug and Nat Cruise Adventures.
What area is this please
Murchison Western Australia
Very interesting 😊
Maybe it was a cyclone?
Such an amazing place :)
Stunning :)
Love nature :)
I love food trucks!!
so cute :)
Interesting:)
Beautiful :)
The Tree Top walk is certainly worth a visit
Hard working truckies keeping Australia going!!
They sure do
Such a beautiful place :)
And a little cool
Very nice. How much do they cost per day ? Do you need a skippers ticket ?
The houseboats cost around $1000 per day depending on the size and season. A skippers ticket is not required
skip to minute 2;30 to see how he did it, he talks too much.
Great looking spot
Hi Gillie great spot and just down the road
I'm looking for images as I'm going to try and make a model of it...thank you for the video...super helpful
Hi Bagam Im glad the video helps.
I'll have to check this place out. Haven'y been in there for years. It might be a good short stay stop over for us on the way north.
Hi Ranger it is a great place for a night or two, especially during crab season
No justification in putting the parking payment machines all over the fishing spots in Albany. No public toilets installed at Salmon Holes or Cable Beach and the one toilets at the end of Frenchman Bay road were not well-maintained.
I stopped going to Albany when they introduced parking fees at Salmon Holes
Can't expect and complain too much. Expect only half of the visits to Salmon Holes or any other beaches during the run will result in hauling some salmon. On the other hand, a good day, you would catch up to 10 salmon, sometimes 3 days in a row. Touch wood!
Good Luck
Such a great spot! 😊
Thanks Nat
Terimakasih atas ilmu nya
Looks like a great place to camp 😊
Hi Luke yes it is a nice place and there are crabs in the estuary
Very close to Perth and nice looking cap site. Thanks for sharing. On the way back try Lodge Brook dam camp site and give as your review;-)
Thanks Irek. Logue Brook is on my list
I built a hill trolley in WA in the 1960s. An old cane pram provided the axles and wheels. I used my hill trolley to carry bags of laying mash for the chooks and wheat bags of firewood from the local pine forest.
Multi purpose, that is great
That's a decent sized camp ground, gotta say that I'm impressed😊
Yes it is a beauty
great vid
Nice spot been there a few times. Had a group of feral passengers booted off the ship there due to a punch up in the ship's laundry on one trip. A plane landed on the airstrip and flew the group to the nearest international airport at the passenger's expense. Interesting cruise that one.
Hi Getz yes Mystery Island is a nice place and we enjoyed the cruise. It only takes one group of ferals to spoil it for everyone. Good to hear they flew them out.
Hi Doug. You guys get around seeing so much of this country. Always enjoy your videos. Cheers
Thanks Tyrone, we have lots more to see
I haven't been into Quobba for many years but have been past the turnoff many times since. It's a great spot! We used to go fishing off the rocks many years ago and camped near the shearer's quarters. The coastal formations still look beautiful. Thanks for the reminder. I'll add it to the list for next time we head north. Is it necessary to book well ahead for the station camp area or did you take your chances at the Blowholes Beach camping spot?
Hi Ranger it isn't necessary to book Quobba Station camp ground because there is plenty of room, however it is a good idea to phone and confirm. Quobba Campground (Blow Holes) doesn't have a booking system, can get quite crowded and it has limited facilities. Both camp grounds give you great access to some fabulous coast.
@ thanks 🙏🏾
Very cleaver with the jumping over the building scene..nice work
Thanks Glenn, it took a few jumps to get over
Simply beautiful.....great....now I want to go there
Hi Amanda ok add it to the list
I visited Old Onslow about 9 years ago while I was working in Onslow. It was all pretty overgrown and neglected then. Looks like it's been substantially upgraded now.
Did you catch anything?
@@iroau no nothing
We've used that Robe rest area. We've found that it's wise to get as far away from the highway as possible. The trucks seem to run all night. The free camping along the Ashburton out at the old town-site is great for a couple of days if there's a spot available. Is the "crocodile sighted in this area" sign still there near the causeway? We've also enjoyed a couple of nights at the Ocean View CP. Seems like a lot of people from the south west park up at Onslow for WA's colder months. Recommend booking ahead if you can. I'm enjoying following you around Doug. Thanks.
Hi Ranger yes there is a bit of traffic noise at Robe Rest Area. No croc sign sighted at the causeway but I still didnt get too close to the water. Onslow is a nice place even if I couldnt catch a fish.
