Today I am at the Veggie Patch Railway in January. It's just above freezing so the steam plumes really show themselves :) Featuring 5 locomotives. Enjoy

First of all I'd like to wish all my viewers a fantastic 2025! At the time of filming the weather outside was terrible. Not to worry, one of our group has an indoor railway :) This video features 6 live-steam model locomotives in various narrow gauge scales and Gauge 1 standard gauge. Enjoy. that GiG looks fun
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I ❤ trains, trams, take a ride, I have a folder on ''transportation'' (folder 2, in playlists) you will love them too :)
Nice movie, cheers Fabrizio -- like2
What happens when the washers eventually deteriorate? using loctite will prevent removal surely?? As a matter of interest, where can one obtain the washers ?
Hi Dave, I was using Loctite 542, not 271. 542 is especially good for fine threads in pressure lines and can handle oil. It is of medium strength so can be loosened with a bit of effort if necessary. It's also recommended by Roundhouse. I got the fibre washers via Locoworks (Roundhouse dealer)
I wish I had one of those.
During harvest season, does the railway haul the produce?
Now there's an idea :)
@gasmith841 Curious about it since our little railway helps with our garden. From seeds to full grown produce and everything in between. Not to mention it makes it a lot more fun when the railway actually earns revenue!
live steam is hot
Fun video. Thanks for sharing. Live steam is hot.
This is a stupid question I know, how do you start and stop them? like the turntable for the warehouse, does it work/move? great video
All the locomotives shown in this video are live steam. Their speed is dependent on the amount of steam being allowed to go to the cylinders. This is achieved through a steam regulator. In these models the regulator can be manually adjusted or via a servo linkage in radio-controlled models. The forward/reverse direction is dependent on the position of an adjustable linkage in the valve-gear, again operated either manually or via r/c. The turntable on this layout does not work, its just for show
@@gasmith841 Cheers for that
Little things like this don’t deter from the great videos you’re making
Please stay healthy and safe. Have a steaming great 2025
You too Nick
Not an Aster Shay, Geoff. They only ever made two models, Alyshan and Maryland. De Alyshanhad a later gas version. Your Shay looks like the first Accucraft version
Thanks for the correction Nick. The owner probably told me the specifications correctly, but my memory got wiped clean after inhaling the blue smoke from the B&O shunter :) It's an age thing
The first shay you see, is an Aster/Accucraft shay released this year. The last shay is the first accucraft live steam shay. And yes they look alike.
Nice one, but Accucraft NEVER USED Aster’s name on the T18 Shay. All versions are Accucraft, nothing to do with Aster
Good to see your work again in this new year!! Happy New Year Geoff 👍
Thanks for the kind words Dave. Hopefully I'll be filming an outdoor running session this weekend. Should be interesting as temperatures are expected to be near freezing :) Have a great New Year
happy new year, blwyddyn newydd dda , enjoyed watching
Fun video. I hope no slate was broken.
Lol...the combination of a new engine , a sensitive rc controller, and trying to film at the same time makes for some difficulty conditions to run the train at a scale speed :)
i see you keep the key to the house under the mat.
Thanks for another fun video Geoff. Today is the Solstice!..... and in celebration, I too am going to steam a couple of trips on my indoor track! Happy Holidays & A Peaceful New Year To All !! ✨ 🌄 ❄ ☃ 🎄_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 😃..... Ken S.
live steam is hot
nice video to watch, your braver than I am with the weather but then this is the Isle of Anglesey so my railway is dormant for the winter. Happy Christmas , nad0lig llawen
Thank you Mr.Jones. I understand there was a lot of damage from the recent storm in your neck of the woods. I am in The Netherlands so it wasn't so bad
Thanks for sharing Geoff. Are the slate wagons from kits or scratch built?
The first 8 are slate wagon kits from Lineside Hut. Their load is 3d printed, also from Lineside (no longer in business). The rear wagon is a Resurgam kit, the load I made myself from individual cut plasticard. I have another 3 of these to complete
You really must be the most fanatical endorser of Roundhouse. Such enjoyable videos
@@nickmoeken8876 Thank you :)
Nice!! 😊😊😊
Nice video, as always. Where did you get the realistic looking tree's ?
Thanks. Which trees do you mean exactly?
@ The model trees on the wagons.
@@renateei3602 They are real trees, but I don't know the species.
I love all your engines and railcars, but that Climax is spectacular.
The Climax belongs to my friend, the owner of the Living Room Railway. It certainly is different.
Great to see an Aster three truck hovering along attheright speed
Indeed. Thanks for your comment
What construction method for the track please?
The support pillars are scaffolding pipe and they sit 60cm deep in the ground. At the top of the pipes are self-made metal framework pieces that support the track bed and can adjust the track bed height bi 4 cm. The track bed itself is made from a specially weather resistant board known as 'betonplex' here in NL. The board is covered with roofing felt, glued to the board, wrapped around the edges of the board and tidily finished off with strip wood. The LGB track is layed on top.
@ Thank you
Good layout. Is that built up on scaffold poles?
Nice. I run live steam on a layout in my garage.
Beautiful engine.
that super katie looks absolutely stunning.
excellent layout geoff
Live steam is hot.
When I was a kid, so we are talking early 1980’s, a work colleague of my father has a live steam railway in his garden. Perhaps 3 or 4 inch? It ran round the garden and through the garage in a circle. Parts of the track lifted up for when not in use. . . He was a tool maker, and built it all himself. He also had a small working (not steam) locomotive that was about 2cm long, that ran on a small circular track about 7cm in diameter, on the mantle piece above the living room fire. It ran on compressed butane from lighter refills. It did not burn the gas, it just ran off the gas as it expanded. Fill it up from a can of lighter gas and it ran around the track for about 15 seconds before the gas expanding caused it to get covered in condensation that froze up, and it stopped, frozen. He just wanted to see how small he could make one that worked.
Quite the elaborate project..... nice! Is that waterway or "Canal" a navigable waterway??
It's a drainage ditch. Navigable with a canoe maybe :)
Nice layout
Now thats quality mate 👍👍
Nice, what voltage do those engines run on?
@@Brickticks 0 volts :) All these locomotives run on live steam. The heat to boil the water is generated either by butane gas or alcohol
I adore those scratch built locos! Sounds like they run well too!
@@Infinitybal1233 The blue 0-6-0 tender engine ran for about 40 minutes on each run
that man has some serious skills
@@ritapage4015 Indeed. He has also built engines in other, larger, gauges
That grey is absolutely fantastic!
Thank you. I wanted something a little different but tasteful :)
Great video. Loved all the engines. Would like to pick up a Reno, it’s so pretty. Live steam is hot.
Fascinating how you in slow-motion the sound is scaled to be just like the full size locos.
Wonderfull video, a slight correction for the NGG16, it is based on the Welsh Highland Railway
Saw 2😢
Great video as per usual Geoff !! A lovely selection of locos filmed well. Much enjoyed thanks 👍
