3min Design Tour of Jay Leno's Monteverdi HighSpeed & other burgundy faves at SMMC2024!
Some of the best cars at the #sanmarinomotorclassic2024 were burgundy, including Jay Leno's #Monteverdi HighSpeed 375S bodied by Fissore, and 2 of the 'usual stunning suspects' at #concours worldwide, which happen to reside yet in SoCal, the #Talbot-Lago 150 C-S, and the wonderful #delahaye Type 165 Cabriolet, with their voluptuous ballon pontons bodies by Fagoni et Falaschi - formerly of the Mullin Collection - now with the Petersen Automotive Museum.
But one of my all-time favorites, 1st seen at the Quail in 2016 is a 'hot rodded' #LanciaB202 this #lancia was made even cooler by #thornleykelham and of course, the super unique classic from the #NethercuttCollection, the lipstick shades carefully arranged by Joseph Urban to make it seem taller, despite its being low enough not to need a running board like most of its day - but the #Ruxton with its sumptuous silk corduroy interior and factory designed paint scheme belies advanced, front wheel drive among other clever characteristics... The lowered #Mercury speaks for itself, grinning quietly, while the stately #Packard awaits duty.
Jay Leno drove his sleek, crisply delineated Monteverdi HighSpeed 375S in to the San Marino Motor Classic 2024. I noticed that a handful of the most exciting car body designs this day, including Jay Leno's Fissore bodied beauty, happen to be burgundy, and noting the colorful coincidence has assembled this Design Traverse of car styling by Fissore, Fagoni et Falaschi, (both Delahaye and Talbot-Lago shown by the Petersen Automotive Museum, the lipstick shades of Joseph Urban's paint scheme for Ruxtons, such as what #thenethercuttcollection exhibited, a lowered #Mercury, a #Packard, the super cool custom #lancia B202 by #Thornley-Kelham, even a #custom-bodied Lincoln with #roadster #coachwork by Locke, to round out the burgundy bouquet.
The inspiration on a theme such as the color maroon, finds a symbolic island where a small club is easily identified from afar. These selected shiny objects of design and restoration, each feature thousands of nuances that their owners, restorers or builders pored over. It is no small task to restore to original, or, with resourceful creativity, to build something totally new which integrates previous design work, hopefully surpassing it - perhaps the toughest challenge of all. Good design is largely not subjective nor determined by polls, it DOES feature objectives of harmony, balance, unified vision/consistent language, intuitive and resourceful utility/cleverness and effectiveness with quality as a starting point. #Jay Leno's Garage #Leno #jayleno

REALITY DRAMA - This dramatic moment captured yesterday, May 29, (the car cam is wrong! it keeps re-setting itself to 2022). Anyway, I was minding my own biz driving along Riggs yesterday, a few country blocks from the arena, when suddenly a gorgeous chestnut mare came galloping up and did a sliding stop on pavement, right before my eyes! The impatient traffic there, which is often around 50mph...

Always have liked the Delahaye with its suggestion of a windscreen!
Yes it does look wonderful! I can imagine a little dance with you!⭐️💋💋💋💋🐅🌻🕊🦋🕊☮️🖤🌅🙏🎉🇺🇸
Why don't all these rich money-grubbing bastards produce some lines of these for the actual road, 2 seated with portable batteries. Doesn't matter if they can't reach max speed limits, 45-55mph is plenty anyhow. They could have solved "global warming" issues decades ago if they focused on such machines, instead of the current crap being produced.
My dad owned a 275 GTb from his late father. He sold it for a song😢. It's now worth about $ 2.5mil
Yes, it’s a timeless beauty - even in survivor condition!
So ..... where can I buy one of these?
Meyers Manx is going strong again! meyersmanx.com
completely re do the interior = looks cheap and done in a hurry ! apart from that always liked sunbeam tigers = i remember when they were new with the 260 v8 !
Please find the OverHaulin' episode for this car, Chip did an amazing job bringing this back into its current, creative and useful state. There was not much left of the original, so in this case, it is acceptable/appropriate for the owner to decide he'd like to do something new and different with his car, and who better to try something wonderful like a tribute to Shelby with a lovely English roadster. If it were restorable, or hisotrically significant, perhaps remaining frozen in time would be a better path. Also important, what works best for the owner, how does the car get driven most?
Its not a Sunbeam Tiger dashboard you need the original dashboard how come when wheeler dealers Sunbeam Alpine was original as possible and they are british so they respect classic british cars and been from Australia the Sunbeams are kept as original as possible
I might try to find the Overhaulin for you, have a good look at what Chip started with on this car...he and the team made really good, resourceful decisions with a motorsport inspired, artful vision for what wasn't there any longer. Personally I think the factory original approach feels less honest than just doing something cool and unique, and honestly not original.
@@TimelessVehicles l live in Australia and an Australian would never try and make a Sunbeam Tiger look like an Cobra only in America they were known as the poor man's Cobra in Australia they are known as the Sunbeam Tiger also in the UK were they were made remember that and also you yanks go on about the Ford GT40 as an American car its not its a british car its right hand drive cars in the USA are left hand and British and Australian carsbare right hand drive
My first car as well! But never got to restore mine
Do you still have it?
My first car was a 1959 Morris Minor woody. It had a crank starter that I joked was there to back up the Lucas electrics. That crank got me to work on time more than once, Lol! A beautiful production of some very nice cars Christine❤!
Thank you! We judged Hotwheels Phoenix recently and really wished we could've had more winners because a beautiful Morris Minor wagon there in tan paint was really perfect! only one winner at that one though. I love it, Lucas, the prince of darkness needs a crank backup! lol
Should have kept the wooden dash.
Yea...there was not much left of this one... I think Chip and his team did an amazing job with creativity and spot on vision for the client and what a Sunbeam could be in its dreams.
This turned out great! Love it!!! Thank you so much Christine!!
So glad you like it! I wish I knew more about Edwardian and Brass Era!!! love the motorcycle metaphor!
Its called a Friction damper. Its just a series of friction plates half of which are connected to one arm of the damper and the other half to the other arm. They all pivot around a center axis bolt that has a tensioning nut that can increase or decrease the amount of friction and therefor dampening effect.
aha, I should like to find an animated illustration perhaps...
Renaults in the 60's could be hand cranked by sticking the jack crank handle through a purpose-made hole under the rear bumper and fitting into the engine crankshaft end. My Caravelle only had a 750 cc engine, so this was very workable.
oh wow, leave it to Renault do something so out of the box, I will be looking for an example out there amongst the cars and coffees...
Hey! I’ve been to Jackson, MI!!! ❤
oh wow! yea this track is really a stand out amongst all the banked, uber high speed tracks built especially! I think CA Speedway or Fontana/Fontucky in CA and Daytona are two others...
Cool!! Love this!
Thank you!!
Haha 😂
Wow!
Love the color
isn't it purdy?
A Porsche & it’s curves! Classic!
Nice!
Super cool!
Love this idea! Gorgeous shots of special cars! Enjoying the history aspect!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Anything Italian is AWESOME! 😂
yea, these are really unusual to see, the perfect example of etceterini!
Beeeautiful! Love those white walls!
The best!
I see that Lockheed Martin style… sleek like a spy.
Cute! Gotta love a caddy!
You got that right!
Vrrrrrooom! Nice purr!
Awesomeness!
Amazing design! Thank you for capturing these beautiful cars & the history! Love it!
This is AWESOME! Beautiful piece of HisStory. Thanks for putting these together for us to “be there”!
Never ever put on a video without at least starting the car up and giving us a few revs from that great engine. 😉
You are quite right, I should've asked him to start it up!!!
This guy is my Auto Tech teacher lol
awesome, he is such a nice guy! Quite a project or episode on Chip Foose' Overhaulin!!!
Looks too much like a 57 , waste of time.
These were Art Center student proposalS - not a single design - rather - an entire class project wherein several students did their own ideas for the unbodied 1939 Type 64 chassis. Peter Mullin later did something different, hired my dad to do a body for his museum exhibit - they used the mahogany buck in the exhibit too!
Nice!
Great info!
Thanks - glad you enjoyed it! it covers a lot of territory for those who might like to get into restoration or evaluating collectible BMWs.
Great highlight & interesting information!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Fabulous design
Thank you! Cheers!
I had I ride in one back in the late 70's it was amazing and the owner had it doing 140 mph and said better not go any faster as it still has original tires on it If I'm not mistaken the Gullwing takes 24 quarts of oil
whooooaa, while it says SL (super light/leicht in German I think) is a LOT of momentum for old tires!
That dashboard!
Any car with fitted luggage is OK with me any day!
Yea, it's pretty cool! Everything about it so classy!
Awesome car!!
It sure is!
One of my favorite cars EVER!
Good stuff!
Thanks Dyno Don!
Piece of art right there!
They’re really cool!
@@TimelessVehicles I wonder where he's parking it tonight, Lol?
Thanks for the lovely interview Christine!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! It is such an amazing, wonderful car to see and I love its history! An accomplished athlete with a Parisian tailored, designer suit, straight from the 17th arondissement - what could be better?!
Amazing design! Thanks for putting this together !
Glad you like it!
Love this!
Great history with Chip Foose!
yea, he's terrific! remembers every detail of this project from so many years ago!
What a hot rod!
Would you believe he drives these long distance - doesn’t trailer to events in other states!!!
Singer FTW!
