Here are four “quick changes” from thrifted casual to thrifted glam, disco and Mother’s Day looks! I also threw in a couple of try-ons at my friend’s consignment boutique. (I didn’t buy those two dresses, but they were nice.) Every outfit cost around $25! Saving money while saving the planet just makes cents!

Not at all! Wearing a hat really helps keep me cool. Also, this only took about 5 minutes and I sat in the shade afterwards, plus made sure to drink some water.
Sorry I haven’t done a SHORT in so long! I couldn’t figure out how to get my YT account back on my phone, which is the only way to do SHORTS, until I asked my son and he told me how to put this account back on. 😅 Hopefully, UA-cam will allow SHORTS to be created on IPads soon! 🙏🏻

Hello! Thanks for watching - I’m glad you found me. Three good tips I can share: cut out as much sugar and processed foods as possible, make your own good, nourishing food, follow the Mediterranean diet. Something I’ve noticed as people get older: they eat like they are still growing teens! We don’t need as many calories once we’ve reached our maximum height. Also, I’ve noticed that people think they can have seconds and /or a sugary desert because they’ve been to the gym. That is self-sabotage! Congratulations, Elaine... EXCELLENT interview (and video), especially raising awareness about the terrible environmental impact of fast fashions!! Hopefully some of Dan's listeners were impressed and moved enough to reconsider their shopping habits. p.s. I purchased my wedding dress from Value Village ($7) in Vancouver in 1988. We moved to the Greater Golden Horseshoe area in Ontario the following year, but there were no VV Boutiques here, much to my disappointment. In fact, it took several years for Ontario to catch up, including in the areas of health food stores, curb-side recycling, etc. There was even pushback against using cloth diapers at the time. Yeah... whole different mindset... slow to embrace environmental consciousness. And don't get me started on toxic laundry products and VOCs... sigh... p.p.s. I've bought thrift items where the scent of detergent, dryer sheets, or cheap cologne was so strong and embedded that no amount of soaking (vinegar, baking soda), airing, or repeated washings could remove it. What's your solution to this issue?

B.C. was definitely more advanced regarding identifying consumers’ impact on the environment and were faster to implement ways for people to recycle, buy healthier food, and more sustainable clothing/ diapers. I think having lived there from 1990-96 also influenced my way of living. Regarding the smell of clothing purchased in thrift shops, yes, sometimes it can be strong. I hang dresses, tops, etc. outside on my covered deck overnight so that they can air out. If it’s snowing, i hang them in the bathroom so that the steam from a shower can help remove the odour. These two tricks definitely help a lot!

Funny thing is, i literally decided to prop up my phone and videotape my radio interview at the last second. 😅 I’m glad you liked how I tried to create a more visual experience with this post. I really think it helps drive home the grim reality of the fast fashion industry’s dirty little secrets. I just found out that there are brokers that fashion companies use to ship unsold “used” clothing offshore to third world companies in container ships supposedly for resale but majority ends up in the dumps or burned! 🥹

“Kinda bothering” turns into unwearable shoes. Loved the wedges on you….you have the ankles for that style. The open toed boots are hiding your best asset.
I would’ve tried on the Beans tee that was hanging on the end with the skirt…
I found a Stickley (mostly known for their Mission Oak) sofa for $120 at Restore. Sells for at least $3000. Pristine condition. Workable color for my home. Had to take the front door off and unscrew the hinges, but got it in. I have very good friends I must say. Also found a Danish teak console for $30. The top is water stained from overwatering plants but a runner covers it.
Like how I can’t remember where my glasses are but can do math in my head…I like to say that’s algebra. Oh and the glasses are usually on my head.
I miss thrifting when I have time to kill….my son is usually with me and it’s always c’mon c’mon c’mon. When I would drop him off at a dance a few blocks away I would meander through Savers (US Value Village) for the two hours….heaping cart of goodies to try on. Whittled down to four or five pieces after try on. Miss the try on. Now I try to wear body wear to try stuff over top. We can return here but within two weeks….pita.
