Circuit of the Three Lagunas: Laguna Ahuac, Paso del Zorro, Laguna Mullaca and Laguna Radian loop from Wilcahuain (aka Wilkawain)

Itinerary:
Day hike from the small village of Wilcahuain (Wilkawain) in the outskirts of the city of Huaraz. Wilcahuain can be reached with a colectivo ride from the Huaraz. This is a circuit/loop hike which can be done in both directions. We did it counter-clock wise. Considering the distance and elevation gain it is a full day hike.

Hike Notes:
During my last few days in Huaraz the weather was not particularly good. Reluctantly, I had to cancel my plans for a two days mountaineering outing on Nevado Vallunareju with my friend José. The only day when the weather appeared to be ok for hiking we opted for the Three lagunas, Paso del Zorro loop hike, which is in the outskirts of town in the Cordillera Blanca. Part of the hike is within the boundary of the Huascaran National Park. This is probably the toughest hike around Huaraz, it entails almost 6,000 ft of elevation gain to reach Paso del Zorro which sits at 16,336 ft of elevation. It was a beautiful hike despite the on and off rain and snow for good part of the day. The cloudy and foggy weather often concealed the views, but at the same time provided some truly beautiful ambience glimpses of the lagunas and surrounding valleys.
Because of mileage and elevation gain this is certainly not an acclimatization day hike around Huaraz, but is absolutely worth doing it if you have time for it in your hiking schedule.
