As a sideboard recommendation: Mesmeric Fiend as Hand Disruption against Combo, White Weenie and Mirror.

Intervene can be good vs a lot of removals and still get Glee and some narrow things. And I'd run at least 2 Terrors with al of those spells. Also, Reaping the Graves can be awesome vs removal decks, I think even 1 on MD and 1 on SB. Deck is sweet, prowess always were one of my favs abilities.

For me the current meta doesn't change that much which is good. You are investing in a deck and you don't have to change it in a while. In comparison to modern the format is static which is a good thing. The argument with bad match-ups exist in every metagame and it is part of the game. I am a fan of natural evolution - adding more cards and more strategies to the game. Look at Guardian of the Guildpacks. Back in the day it would also considered as a banable card but more and more decks adjusted to it and today... it is not even played.

glee should be banned and prophetic prism unbanned. wizards always talks about "format identity" but why ban out tron which was a meta defining deck from the beginning just like affinity yet they let other decks like titan stay in other formats for years but they kill off tron in pauper.

Format is great. There is plenty variance and there is no clear winners. Plenty good decks and room for new decks to shake the meta. People are just lazy and don't want to think: just whining about every little thing.

I wouldn't axe glee combo, it's not oppressive enough right now. It's a really good deck but there will always be a best deck and I think it's a fine top tier deck. Chrysalis I can see being banned just because it's splashed easily, and avoids a lot of the commonly found answers in pauper. Although it's good to finally have a big threat in gruul color so I'm also fine if it stays and becomes the biggest body in the format. In my opinion, the best way to deal with the format right now is to try and help the weaker decks. I would say unban prism first which should help tron, and then maybe some other cards. Even an aggressive unban with the saying "we're ready to ban this again if this goes out of hand" would be fine with me (I'm thinking hymn to tourach, high tide, invigorate...). My vision of the current format is that every color has access to some pretty busted cards like the ones you've pointed out, except white. White honestly needs some boost right now. I'm just not sure what it could be, either a better cheap removal spell or maybe even a board wipe at common (expensive enough to not be too oppressive). Unlikely a board wipe happens as there are already way too many of them in standard right now.

So I think Bushwhacker would be fine if you removed Kolhuldotha, and it would slow red down. Glee was good but but it's time to go. With those changes, I would put chrysalis and Terror on a short Watch to see if they still need banning.

I got some ideas that may help and my ban wish list: Pauper being an eternal format will have a natural tendency towards efficiency, same as modern, legacy, etc. The difference is that pauper is not supported as much as other eternal formats, and there will be unbalanced cards printed once in a while. On the other hand, some of the old cards have degenerate mechanisms that just kept getting better over the years, such as storm and affinity. With this in mind, and also accounting for the fact that pauper is considerably cheap as a format, i would think having a big ban every couple of years would be an amazing way to keep the format healthy (blue Monday is the perfect example for this). Also I would suggest the tendency to ban the older card first. Right now we could easily ban this list of cards without banning the decks that play them, and that would allow many strategies to come back: Myr enforcer: artifact lands and bridges are controversial, but for me the most frustrating thing about affinity is when they rebuild for free with two enforcers that where brought back eot. Also the can stand 3 points from shaman. Writhing chrysalis: totally weird card... Absolutely frustrating to play against a 4/5 that costs 2. Also has reach?? Wth... Deadly dispute: ancestral recall should stay in vintage Kuldotha rebirth + bushwhacker: 8 DMG out of nowhere after a board swipe? I have played this combo dozens of times and i hate to admit that it has to go Tolarian terror: control should not have a one mana threat that hits this hard I really believe this 4 bans would let the format thrive again without damaging any deck

I agree on everything you said for chrysalis. It’s too busted. However, I don’t think tolarian terror is worth a ban. The whole deck circles around getting enough time to put the snake on the table(that’s what she said). That’s the strategy of the deck. Banning terror is killing the deck and the finisher of the deck.

Glee its a problem because of Chrysalis. GolgariGlee its bad match against monoU, but Chrysalis really screw monoU game. If its gets banned maybe MonoU can put Glee in balance in the metagame. And chrysalis stops every deck with flyers like boros or orzhov artefacts ETB. i dont see monoU as a problem, creatures decks hates him very well, if combo falls of, they will be more frequent in metagame Mono red if you dont wanna ban de deck engine, goblin tumbraider its kinda too much with the whole thing. The rest of the deck its 1 resistence, so the deck could be more hateble Afinnity with KCS its a little bit over power, the deck does EVERYTHING, so i think the boardwipe could go, its easier to deal without him So i vote on chrysalis and tumbraider, and whatchout what happens to glee. I dont like the ideia of banning 4 or 5 cards of diferents decks because magic will eventually print more cards that we will be complaning about in few months. Maybe unban something..

My thoughts on the bans as a nobody who loves the format. I don't think chrysalis should be banned quite yet. I think it should get one more spin after seeing what the bans do now. Broodscale combo itself has a lot of issues kinda like splintertwin did in modern. The fact that the combo takes 9-10 slots of the deck and you can fill the rest of the deck with disruption and draw makes it way too consistent and makes it so they are really hard to beat with slower decks. This is why the format has gotten so fast because if you can't beat them join them. For my picks for red and affinity I would start with galv blast. How many times have you been at 12 and got blasted with 3 of them and just lose the game. 1 mana for 4 damage is too good of a rate when there is no downside to running it. This hurts koldtha and affinity's reach and some of their removal potential. The second card I would ban from red would be either goblin tomb raider or goblin bushwacker. I am kinda not sure about bushwacker because it and koldotha have been around for years before koldotha red was a deck. It was the synthesizer that made this version of red exist. I am not saying it should be banned because it is quite a cool card in not koldotha red. The second card to ban for affinity(mostly) would be blood fountain. It is largely the reason that affinity decks can get a bit too degenerate too early.(being that it is two artifacts) Also blood fountain give affinity the ability to outgrind control decks. Sadly it is only too good with the affinity mechanic but if we aren't going to ban myr enforcer or the untapped artifact lands then blood fountain and galv blast. Also ban deadly dispute. Almost forgot to add that lol. I am not sold on banning terror yet. Maybe something needs to happen after these (hypothetical)bans but without a crystal ball I can't say. Nixing broodscale and weaking mono-red might lead to people playing tithing blade and edicts again which we know are quite good against terror. I think we should do some unbanning though starting with prophetic prism and maybe bonder's ornament. So I would personally ban deadly dispute, sadistic glee, galv blast, blood fountain, and goblin tomb raider. I would have terror, koldotha rebirth, and crysalis on my watch list. Then I would unban prophetic prism and maybe bonder's ornament.

Banning cards would only make the meta bad. If you slow it down too much, it would be too stale and tiresome to play. I've been beating the top 3 meta decks consistently in paper. And i am never even playing the same deck twice. You just need a little creativity and a good play group to play test with.😅

i agree, but.. my personal bans is this : Ban Broodscale ( Maybe? i think this meta need glee combo, if not ban i like unban drake or high tide ) , Chrysalis, ALL Bridges or Krark Clan shaman, Bushwhacker, Terror . Unban? Drake or High Tide.

I think it's an issue that every single sideboard absolutely needs 6+ slots dedicated to artifact hate.

I think I disagree with several things: Yeah broodscale needs to go. I think Chrysalis is a very good card but is so amazingly overhyped. I feel like the “this needs to be banned” talk picked up steam a week ago and now everyone is bandwagoning. Affinity is a must hit. That deck is heinous. You correctly mention the bridges which have overstayed their welcome due to neglect, but even suggesting Shaman is wild. A card that has zero text if your opponent considers they may run into it, can be played around and punishes turbo aggression is not a card that needs banning. Terror isnt a maybe. If all the other decks are hit it’ll become the best thing to do. So if you’re hitting 2-3 decks you have to hit terror. As far as kudoltha red I agree, but let’s not pretend swiftspear died for bushwackers sins. That card nicer should’ve been a common. Overall the main thing I agree with is that they’ll ban nothing

Na we’ve had worst formats, I consider this format on the healthier side, maybe a bit narrowed but still healthy, people complained about blue being the best deck for years and now red has been, people will complain, especially when a combo deck is good which I don’t think is fair

Pauper has so much variance in some things (blacks 2cmc sac draw come to mind) and such efficient creatures (some old but mostly newer ones) that i dont think there is a way around really coming to terms with what the format should be and put a sword to a bunch of things As sad as it feels, this is getting to a point no one will be happy

my biggest problem with going down this rabbit hole is that as suggested, faeries goes completely unchecked, and we just shift to the same complaints all over again. I think there's a difference between power level bans and deck variance bans. To elaborate, Chrys, KCS, Refurb, Glee, Bushwcker, etc are all emensely high power level cards, and to try and balance the format around power level at this stage would require a mass exodus of bans to actually address the problems which not leaving some deck with a power outlier when the dust settled. Then there are variance bans, such as cards tat are played too often. I think deadly dispute is a great example of that, bridges are another, that are played in too many decks and there by restrict deck construction and viability of cards just because they do something better than every other version of those cards. (Chrys falls under this category as well for me) as it has become so warping that decks are splashing colors to play it. And that I think is the key. So for me that is the only clear ban. While I acknowledge that online and paper metas are vastly different based solely on things like familiars not being as viable a deck, and the online conversion rate of glee is higher than I think it should be, if we observe paper events the actual numbers look much better. That being said, since online is played more, we have to account for that. So banning just Chrys weakens jund glee, but leaves BG glee untouched which just means that will still dominate in leagues do to its speed and linear style of play being the only thing that compete with kuldotha for grinders... now we have to address the real question.. does the format need to be balances around grinders? Because if you don't, then leagues suffer, if leagues suffer the players who primarily or solely play online have a bad experience because every league lacks meaningful variance. But if we do balance around grinders we will effectively always be banning the fastest or most straight forward decks, which hurts new players as well, since those are often the best entry level decks too. So this is a very complicated balance. I am much more inclined to say that due to external circumstances such as grinders that leagues will always suffer as an ecosystem and bans specifically due to that perceived health are mistakes or at very least short-sighted of the format overall. I could get behind a Chrys ban, but even then I think it just creates other problems and turns decks that are currently held in check back into problems. Pauper is at a place right now where there is no elegant solution. Either it all goes, or none of it goes. This is all to say, I would have no problem with no changes, the format as a whole feels impactful, powerful, flashy, and exciting, all are things which attract new players and that is a factor to prioritize in my opinion. "The rule of cool" as it's known in some other games. I think there are a ton of good decks, and some are always going to be better than others (with or without bans that remains the case), but right now there are an astounding assortment of decks that are viable and capable of taking any event. That to me should be protected even if it means preserving the current power level. I may be the minority here, but the last 5 leagues ive played have all been highly varied in matchups with no more than 2 of the same deck across them. And while I see the numbers, and can understand when you see a league of 4+ glee decks you can feel bad about it, that was possible last year with kuldotha, the year before with affinity, and possible every year with the current "top" deck all the way back throughout Pauper's history, it is an inevitable concentration of decks that league produce because of their grinder environment. And I don't think we can balance around those exclusively.

My suspicion is that both Basking Broodscale and Writing Chrysalis get banned. I don’t see a problem with Tolarian Terror because there are enough ways to deal with it, and Mono blue or Dimir Terror are not in a position in the meta to even consider the card for banning. KCS might stick around only because it’s the answer that Rakdos, Grixis, and Mardu artifacts has against Terror and Glee combo, assuming Broodscale and Chrysalis do not get banned. Goblin Bushwhacker will probably stay unbanned for now, but as more data is collected from MTGO and in person events, the PFP will look at how much impact Kuldotha Red still has on the format.

Crysalis, in my opinon, is a fair card. Don't understand why some people see it like a problem. We have Murmuric Mystic, that is the right deck, is so much broken, in my opinon, and put so much pression. Artifacts lands are very easy to exile or destroy with all the cards pauper has. Bushwacker and Kuldotha is a very old synergy, and I don't see it like a problem. Glee is possible the only solid combo that is not extremly opressive if you campare it to things like Chatter storm. I think the right way is unban, not ban. And downgrade cards that can interact with other good cards in the format.

I think the broodscale combo brings not too much to the table to be banned outright. Yes it is a true combo, but it doesn't automatically win the game. It can very easily be interacted with, needs setup and usually leaves enough time open for other decks to do their thing. Yes Moggwarts and Inside out are falling from favour, but have a whole other strategy angle and force other control plans to exist in the format (mass removal/sacrifice) The meta share of the broodscale combo is inflated, like - lets be honest - Mono red. Still I think you are calling shots on targets that are the center of attention in their respective decks, but I doubt that a ban on Terror would let the Terror deck live, That a ban on Broodscale or glee would let the Broodscale decks live, or that a Ban of Kuldotha/Bushwacker would let Kuldotha red live. To be fair, it would just be Dimir control, A heap of deadly disputes on Ichor wellsprings and Red Burn, but it would siphon all the exiting plays of the deck out of it. And this is why they are so popular and the center of attention - they are exiting! The biggest problem is that there were no real improvements to the fringe decks, no callbacks/ slightly diverging copies of cards that play an important role in them to make them more stable. I can agree to your "top five" theory, but this top five existed much longer than your personal banlist cards. Fringe decks need common reprints from uncommons of their own set that could make the deck stronger for example. PS: Chrysalis is an abhorrent card design and has probably too many lines of text. It is a strong pull into Gruul colours that have had a hard time in the history of pauper until Cascade made its entrance. PS.PS. Personal note: Can we pls ban Avenging hunter. In my brews I have more problems handling this monster than with all of the above!

I agree with your view of the format, but suggesting to ban so many cards out of so many different decks doesn't bode super well with me. It would mean you're banning cards that you wouldn't ban otherwise, like Terror, for the sake of "keeping the balance". Cards like KCS rose lately as answers to other strong decks, like monored being too pushy since Percussionist. Chrysalis made Gruul playable (it was almost a meme deck before) and pushed Gardens' wincons outside of initiative alone, and it's a strong card because it walls Affinity and Monored, which otherwise would dominate, but it's quite a mediocre card against pure control decks like Gardens or combos. If you ask me, the issue is that these strong cards are paired ALONGSIDE other deck strategies like Glee, and it's hard to keep up with both the midrange and combo aspects. Combo is very strong right now especially since Jund Glee can win without it most of the times, as the recent Paupergeddon's highlighted. Banning something out of Jund Glee, be it chrysalis or glee itself might be the right move in my opinion, but not both. We shall see what the panel think about it, I really hope you're wrong and they won't go "no changes"

The existence of dual lands that are both artefacts and indestructable is just too much. I think the best course of action would be banning them and replace them with two sets of dual land; one with the artifact archtype, and the other with indestructable (in order to maintain the current sinnergy with cleansing wildfire)

Agree on Chris, but killing Broodscale/Glee seems a bit much - you need combo in the format to keep other things in check.

Just my two cents. I fully agree on Chrysalis + Glee in this order of priority. I would add a third card, to slightly nerf the efficiency of Deadly Dispute ... which is banning Ichor Wellspring. My take is that Wellspring doesn't add value to anything, it's played because it's extremely efficient, it's an artifact (which is relevant in many cases) it replaces itself AND it's broken with Dispute.
