Chip & Chase - NRL Supercoach 2024 Episode 19 - Injuries, Byes, and Fullbacks
Country Rugby League a franchise would never work but as a Club for sure need to focus on utilising the talent. Raiders need to lean heavier into it South West should be all Raiders. South Coast all Dragons North Coast should be all Knights and well the best club in the league already do it better than anyone. Penrith with the Western Rams which is a Panthers Development system they own the entire Western corridor of NSW. And play against the Panthers sides in Matt's SG Flegg ect why nobody else invests the same way is actually shocking. For QLD Cows aren't bad owning the North and north west, but I'd think a Sunshine Coast / Central QLD Franchise basically owning Sunny Coast up to Rocky Bundy Mackay would be incredible and able to really utilise that QLD country region. Cows get to keep Townsville Cairns area but it would be unreal if they are ever able to sit and talk with the Panthers as to how they do it. Then copy paste for the betterment of the game
@iksnaustralia6262 Love this call, mate. Definitely the sort of thing I was thinking of when it comes to another Queensland team.
Yes lads great listen there's never enough chat about expansion and growth of the game. I wish it was the main focus of us as a game as we are so locked into what's happening domestically. With expansion comes growth and with growth comes opportunities and international game is better for it. Personally I just wish our game was smarter like why are we not utilising the QLD cup sides and domestic competitions better as pathways to the NRL. For instance if say a new South QLD or West Brisbane based Ipswich Toowoomba come together with an East's or Brisbane Tigers as the main backer & franchise owner taking control of the NRL operations. How does that franchise not succeed if you take the very best talent from all of those filter them into the top squad? Same goes for a Pacific Islands side not a solely PNG team as it simply will fail without any doubt what so ever it has to be Pasifika. I think a PNG Pasifika based in Wellington playing some games out of PNG why is it not being discussed as an option? Massive Islander support in NZ can tap into the Māori culture and build something truly special. And you'd have a safe place for players to move and live with world class facilities. Tap into the competitions in Samoa Tonga utilise PNG Hunters and the Silk Tails in Fiji again filter the best talent from those counties into a pathways. Recruit some elite kiwis to really drive the franchise and squad and it can succeed. But doing it out of PNG won't work neither will doing it out of Cairns they're just trash ideas Instead we have Newcastle Knights and Souths linked with Qcup sides why are they not focusing on their own backyard more and investing that money into say the Hunter and Central Coast or South with Redfern Mascott ect
@iksnaustralia6262 Agree with everything you've said, mate. I don't know all the ins and outs but it baffles me that these avenues haven't even been explored. Thanks for the support mate!
Great poddy
Bit of a shortsighted harsh view of "success" for new clubs while established clubs get a free pass - no mention or comparisons of things like Eels or Raiders last premierships or Tigers run of spoons etc or Sharkies taking 50 years to win a comp etc. While winning a comp is obviously the ultimate aim there are other things that make clubs a success eg Warriors in heartland Union country have created a huge fan base selling out every home game this year. There is a real chance to make further inroads into Union in NZ with a club in Christchurch a city that will have a covered stadium in 2026.
They also didn't consider the Super League War. It basically put a reset to the Comp that created joint ventures and put NS bears, Adelaide rams, and Western Reds under the knife.
@jackohere1878 Absolutely mate, wasn't meant to be as black and white as 'if you've won a comp you're a success and if you haven't you are a failure'. I'm a Warriors fan so I don't believe they're a failure of a franchise at all and I'd love to see a Christchurch team because of how good Rugby League is going in New Zealand atm. More so was just trying to play both sides of the field and add a bit of context to the debate 👍
@JRPete Definitely did consider the Super League War mate, but more so just wanted to focus on what teams the next expansion could give
@@ChipandChasePodcast Actually I don't know what agenda V'Landy and co have when it comes to expansion as they rejected basically out of hand every application except for PNG which of course has $600 million of govt money being promised but many don;t "get" Govts change then policies change so some risk there for sure. Is V'Landy trying to pressure govts in Perth / NZ etc into pouring huge amounts of money into a new NRL club ? If so it will fail. I know the Christchurch "Kea's" are asking for a please explain from NRL as they are financially very sound plus have a proven solid fan base and with a covered stadium being built right now the time is prime for them to enter the comp around 2028..
unreal poddy legends
Great takes. Heard it here first dogs are the only team that can beat panthers
Came for the thumbnail, stayed for the good lookin rooster
Personally I would just go turbo in so then u can go Koula to Gus u could next week go Lehi to Reece and make another downgrade
This makes the most sense. But I prefer Walsh for his draw, Broncos playing for their season, and I have a gut feel. I'm also not convinced Angus backs up from origin, but if he does then I'll boost for him now that Ola is out anyway
@@ChipandChasePodcast I’m in a similar spot to you where I anti pod Teddy and I don’t know whether I should bring him in or just go Walsh and make 3 upgrades instead of the 2 because currently my other FLB is papi but in rd23/24 he will turn into ponga so I can either go Teddy and DCE in for Brooks and Gutho or I can go Walsh DCE and Kiraz for Koula Brooks and Gutho
@@shotz669 Who did you end up going?
@@ChipandChasePodcast don’t wanna talk abt it lol 😂
why don't you just sell Hynes to Teddy and then do Gus to Dfifi next week
It's definitely something I've entertained. I just don't like the current halfback state, so having Hynes is a massive plus. Every chance I do end up doing this though! It's actually a fantastic shout!
I am tipping Canterbury, Melbourne, North Queensland, Parramatta, Easts, Cronulla-Sutherland, Brisbane and New Zealand.
Well you're already doing better than me haha
Good luck with your channel, hopefully it continues to grow ✌️
Thank you, mate! Appreciate the kind words!

Hey bro well done. Good score. I am just in front you ..Top 3% . Keep it up. See you at the top 😊😅😅

Thanks, mate! Pretty happy with how we're sitting at the moment, you've got a good score there yourself. I also think it's a big week to make moves. I'm lucky I've only had to use one boost so far, so very happy to use my second to make some big moves this week!
Nice work Chip & Chase.
