This is purely my insights from watching the anime only, but from what I see, Mamiko was the cool older sister for most of Kumiko's childhood. Not just for Kumiko, but also Shuuichi and Aoi. Mamiko was such a strong presence in their lives that all three followed in her footsteps in joining the wind ensemble and picking up instruments. Shuuichi playing the trombone was directly inspired by Mamiko. And Mamiko served as Kumiko's mentor in playing the euphonium as wind instruments have similar basics. However, as Kumiko grew, Mamiko faced problems in life that led to her ideal older sister facade crumble over time. As the eldest child, she had expectations and pressure to perform well as a student, and being a talented musician was considered a distraction to that. Imagine that in the midst of preparing for nationals, Kumiko was ordered to abandon the euphonium, the wind ensemble and to study only. Imagine the angst it would bring. While Mamiko never had to deal with that kind of stakes, her abandoning the trombone definitely hurt her in ways Kumiko at the time could never imagine. As the two sisters grew, seeing their parents give Kumiko the leeway she never enjoyed frustrated Mamiko in ways she never expected, hence her antagonistic attitude throughout most of Season 1 and 2. Naturally, Kumiko, inexperienced as she is, yet ever insightful, saw the similarities between Mamiko and Asuka. Having seen firsthand what would happen if one gave up their dreams, began to get emotionally invested in Asuka's story and circumstances, hence the tearful outburst under the walkway. And once she saw Asuka resolve her issues, Kumiko gained the resolve to make up with her beloved older sister. Mamiko, still being the cool older sister at her core, had made the first steps to reconcile with that failed cooking dinner. And at the Season 2's end, Kumiko was able to passionately declare her love of the euphonium and music, both of which are things Mamiko had passed down to her, gifts that Kumiko had finally learned to cherish.

結局最後の最後は『カッコイイ孤高の先輩』って感じで去っていったのが本当にいい。

this was a very amazing scene. many emotional tears.

i don't see this scene in any sad anime compilation, but i must say this scene hits harder than most of those anime compilation video😢😢

KyoAni doesn't put Asuka to watch and congratulate Kumiko aftermath winning gold celebration is a crime. They Alter story from source in S3 EP12, Why not just add Asuka in EP13 to be more satisfying.

There is a double meaning in the name of "Sound! Euphonium". Asuka said that Kumiko is an Euphonium girl and compared her to Euphonium. And "Sound" means to open up. So, Sound! Euphonium name is telling Kumiko to open up about her feelings and what she truely wants.

For me, this is the end of Hibike series. No matter how many seasons KyoAni wants to release. No Asuka, no party.

watching this after s3 finished with a rushed episode hurts so bad considering how perfectly bittersweet this ending was, part of me wishes it ended here since it was so good. (I do like season 3, not a dig at that.)

This episode is everything to me, this is Hibike! Euphonium at its peak.

3期は結局最後までこのシーンを越えれなかったな

去年のアンサンブルで観たのがきっかけでユーフォを本格的に知って１期から2期まで全部完走してきたけど神作だったし、あすか先輩とのれは一番泣ける😢 「今度は黄前ちゃんが、後輩に聞かせてあげてよ、その曲」 その後輩って、勿論この後入学する奏ちゃん達の事だよね…

今見返すとこのノートは元々久美子に渡す予定の物ではなく、中身は全部覚えてるのにわざわざ持ち歩くような明日香にとって本当に大事なもので 『明日香先輩みたいなユーフォが吹きたい』と語った久美子の思いが明日香に響いたから、久美子に渡したんだなと

This is probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire show.

Rewatching this after season 3, I'm reminded how important this piece is to Kumiko and why she would be protective of it, knowing that she would have to think really hard who to pass it on to.

Probably the best Senpai-Kouhai relationship i've ever seen

hits different when you re watch this after seeing season 3 where kumiko is behaving the same composed and calm way as asuka. Asuka's legacy is there always even after she leaves the show.

Asuka was the reason I liked this anime so much, I really love this character, every scene with her was all best scenes for me, now that she's missing from S3 I feel that the magic is not there anymore... 😔

Just came back to comment on this goated scene. When this was how the season ended, I wanted to see how Kumiko's story would unfold. Fast forward 7 years, and I will actually be able to see it in season 3. Kinda crazy.

We all have someone we love, hate, envy or admire like Asuka. This is why this scene touched so many people. I hope the 3rd season will have some scenes with Asuka. I want to see her saying she's proud of Kumiko, crying, and being given the best hug ever, in front of all the other members of the band, even if it for one scene, or a moment...even for a few seconds... just a few seconds.... Asuka cannot just leave like that. Not like that !
