Background:
In this series I’m building myTMJ Pen FROM SCRATCH.
It’s a tool that helps people w/ TMJ Disorder (jaw pain) apply simultaneous heat and massage to their tense jaw muscles and jaw joint.
I had the idea when heat helped me unlock my jaw and reduce clicking noises, and decided to bring myTMJ Pen from idea to product to full time business.
We’ve come so far. It’s literally my full time business now. Follow my journey.

Great job buddy 😊
Good job man. Had an idea and you're bringing it to reality. Respect.
Thanks :)
Where can I get one?
Right here! 6 days left www.indiegogo.com/projects/mytmj-pen-the-portable-jaw-pain-relief-tool#/
keep it up!!!!!
I can't wait to buy one
You should cop one now on the indiegogo! 1 week left www.indiegogo.com/projects/mytmj-pen-the-portable-jaw-pain-relief-tool#/
Is it vex robotics that is what I do
Hell nah, FRC
Where do I buy this???
Google myTMJ Pen :) I’d recommend buying on Indiegogo to support full production. It’ll be cheaper for you if you’re willing to wait for full production
For the ladies
Keep it up bro, this is an amazing product!
Damn. If I was you I'd be proud of myself.
You can set your rules because you're at seed stage
Only get investor when you're ready to mass produce or reach out to major companies like 3M to license your tech. I think this product is best licensed to major companies that already have logistics, it's also somewhat medical related so that in itself seems like alot of work and money to navigate regulatory wise. It works, you have the reviews and such, license it, then move onto your next project with millions to fund. You can still iterate the product in you're spare time but you won't have to worry about 90% of the other aspects of the business. Good Luck!
What’s there to license. They can just make their own.
Try adding some tpu sleeve to dampen the sound
I'm sure have atleast 1 person you know who can help you tag team on these larger events. This way you can handle closing potential sales while they deal with demo/simple questions. one thing I've learned about starting your own business, is that you really can't scale without part-time or full-time help. I'm also a one man army kinda person so took me a awhile to understand.
Yeah we’ll see how long it takes me to learn 🤣
Pro-tip from a guy building his 3rd company (tool liquidation retail): outta thousands of customers, I cant recall a single one who was frustrated or walked off when I said, "do you mind if I ring him/her up real quick and I'll be right back with ya?"
Haha fs. Trade shows a bit different though I noticed cuz they’re restricted on time and have so many booths to see. So they’re not even customers per se, just browsing. And I don’t get to pitch them
@@noamaiz good point! Trade shows definitely need different techniques. Maybe you could set up a pos next to a tablet with a demo video for kinda a self-checkout for folks who know they wanna buy and wanna do so quickly?
dual purpose dude
Cant you just use the standard power on/off switch icon? I think alot of people are already aware of it. Also make it the same seamless design as the others.
I kinda like the circles, so gonna do some user testing and if it’s still confusing I’ll do the line
zip ties probably leave too much clearance and glue might not be the best. Screw it ! We bolt!
Are you planning on improving the 3D printed housing? It looks very cheap for a professional product.
Because it’s 3D printed or because of the design? What I’ve noticed is that the perception that 3D printed = cheap lies within engineers not normal people. Compliance, rattling, weight, etc matter infinitely more
@@noamaiz The texture of the material is what makes it look cheap. Most products look smooth and well finished.
Nah people really don’t care as much as you think they do. Only people who know 3D printing give it any notice.
Add a dab of epoxy where the motor makes contact with the housing. It will transfer all the motion to the pen and not clatter against inside. You can keep the ziptie design and use the zipties to hold the motor in place while the glue or epoxy cures. Good luck
Spoilers ;) although so far I’ve been playing with CA glue.
Change the motor to one 3 small ones like in a old school nokia
Vibration force is important here
Yeah… tmj…
dude i thought this video had at least a million views until i saw the likes
Use the proper symbols for on and off.
Should use a I and 0 to represent on and off in binary which is what most appliances and pieces of tech use like the switch on a tv or monitor
Can u contact me? I have several inventions I need ur help with. No one else has the determination of seeing something through to the end like you do
You can DM me on instagram @mytmjrelief if you’d like
What are they?
Make it green, green is for on (opinion from someone who doesn’t know anything about tech and is probably slow like the customers)
yeh I'd do the same (seriously bro💀)
I'd also make the switch bigger and easier to spot
A hidden sex toy 😂😂
Try using the on off symbols I/O
Your solution is quite straight forward. But if this doesn't work out, you may need to implement something more complex. Get the MCU into deep sleep and wake it up once a button is pressed. But this is way more complex to implement. So, check first if your I/O indicator is enough. Otherwise you might need to do the hard work.
Yes i def could but i wanted a sure fire way to shut off the device as a safety feature. Once i validate it enough maybe ill start getting fancy
I love how customer focused you are. There are people who would just say: Uff, they just don't know, whatever. But you make a small design change that makes it clearer.
Ux is real eye opener for sure.
If you offet the screw hole in the device it will make the device naturaly tilt into the correct possition as you press because reaction and pressing forces form a couple moment.
Might try to angle it to prevent forces on the tip from pushing screws “out” when there’s vibration. Not sure if that’s what you meant by offset
Can you turn the whole shape and grind the bevels in later? You should consult with machinist because they will know how optimize the process. It might just require a different stock. It might slightly more expensive but still within your margins.
Sure but the CNC mill bevelling is still an extra process. I got the white, it’s not unreasonably more expensive so I’m going for it
Why not just injection mold the part?
Because it’s at low scale production right now with high risk of needing changes (as you can see). And it’s bootstrapped. Molds cost a lot
With is lt
WTF is a Gua Sha??
Look it up lol. It’s like a facial muscle scraper
This is a bad product unfortunately
Lmao damn that’s mad unfortunate fr
@@noamaiz i wish the beat for you but it takes alot more for people to make a real profit
It’s literally profitable as we speak.
dude i love your work so much, congrats on the progress
Thanks!
Well I’m just hearing the word GUA SHA for the first time. Maybe some indicator on the product would help. Like a ring on the edge of the circle tip. Or the name of the product can be a fast way to imply how to use a device.
Or even a “jingle” or “sub-name” like: Swiffer, the “quicker - picker - upper”
The name def does imply something (TMJ). I thiiink this new design makes things more intuitive. I can’t really think of an indicator that means “use edge to scrape muscles” as intuitively as shape
If people buy it it doesnt matter, right?
that's only if you're going for soulless profit, he actually wants to improve people's quality of life
@@JacksenRose if more ppl buy it it gets more popular and reaches more people that need it I guess
@@Kili_810they’re still not gonna use it properly which is the whole point of the video.
Well more people would buy it if it was a better product right? First impressions count, I just want to make sure it’s not too confusing.
In my experience locktite won't work on plastic, even talking with some locktite people told me that only works on metal to metal fasteners
Wrote this up for the other comment but thought I’d throw it here too cuz you’re definitly right. Hey great tip, that’s why I love posting haha. I did test it and it wasn’t budging at all which is why I thought I’d proceed. Looking into it I think it’s because the holes were already prethreaded so there weren’t as much internal stresses for cracks to propagate. And other thread lockers are sooo god damn expensive but I think I’ll return and settle for the price. Or explore some other options for sure
Just a little tip, be careful using "regular" Loctite with plastic - some plastics will get super weak and brittle due to the solvents in it, or something like that. It can be really bad. If you need a Loctite for plastic go for one that explicitly has plastics listed in the materials it can bond, like Loctite 408. (Although I'm not sure if 408 is designed for threads or not though...) Good luck!

@@noamaizif you use a 400 series loctite it’s a cyanoacrylate that works will with plastics and metals
