If you have just 3 weeks of long-term shelf-life food and at least one gallon of water per person and half that for pets stored away for your entire family (pets included). Then you are in better shape than 90% of the entire nation's other families. Agree that trying to prepare for all things is not something anyone should do.

they can take them in units of 55 grains at a time. If they want to get greedy it will by 7/8 ounce at a time. When those run out, there's the 115 grain all the way down to 17 grain.

Many parents of the 1950's and 1960's had a pantry and when they could afford it a chest freezer. They had seen the hard times of the depression and the rationing of WWII. They also had savings accounts. They took their vacations as cash, extra paychecks at the end of the year. They drove and took care of many 20 year old vehicles. Credit cards were rare things. There wasn't someone in the store set up with a table offering 10% off on your first purchase with a new credit card, nor did you get offers in the mail multiple times a year. My father a WWII vet didn't take a vacation until 1969. All those years he took his vacation as two or three weeks pay. He worked every minute of overtime that was offered. He was still wearing his Navy dress shoes in the 1960's to church. Every couple years he would get new soles put on.

Wow! What a great trip down memory lane. I’m in my 60s, so I have lived during many of the events you talk about. It has taught me valuable lessons. The two events that impacted me the most and triggered me to be more prepared were the 2021 Texas cold snap and hurricane Beryl. We don’t typically get extended freezing weather like we did during the winter storm in 2021, so this left many in a dangerous situation. We have a gas stove, so we were able to boil water, which warmed up that area of the house a little. We hung heavy blankets over the blinds on the windows to retain more heat. But, it was still painfully cold! After that event, we immediately bought heavy, blackout drapes for all the windows in the house. This has made a significant difference in keeping the house warmer during the winter and cooler during the summer. The second most impactful event was hurricane Beryl a couple months ago. We had no power for a week and temperatures were almost 100°. We were able to run fans with a generator, but it was still very hot. After that we immediately bought a window air conditioner. We had plenty water and food storage, but the heat was unbearable. I was determined not to be in that situation again.😅 I love videos like this because it prompts me to start filling in the areas where I am lacking in my emergency preparedness. Thank you again for an inspiring video!

We live on a very, very thin sheet of civility. The power goes down, the food supplies at the grocers get snapped up, and society devolves quickly into chaos - all in a few days. A hungry or starving man has no conscience. Make the sacrifices you need to make in order to be ready. In the motorcycling world we have a saying..."You don't dress for the ride, you dress for the fall." In other words, on hot days you still put on gear because you dress for the worst possible scenario, not the the most comfortable one." People used to make fun of me for wearing my protective gear on hot days while they were riding in t shirts and shorts. All fun and games until them and their half naked girlfriends crash and eat asphalt at 70mph with no gear on. Then it's no longer HaHa, but Oh Sh*t.

The other day I was doing inventory on supplies meant to last 3 years. This week I’ll be doing quarterly maintenance on my vehicles, generator, other machinery and checking all radios, flashlights. Next week after a 2 hour drive, the same process at my other house. I am of two distinct feelings about all this. First, how fortunate I am to be able to do it. Second, extreme anger that the world is in such a mess that this has become a necessity.

I am glad i came across this video. I've been struggling with this a lot lately. I tell my family to please set things aside such as food, water, meds, etc. The answers I've gotten are, "well I'm your mom you HAVE to take care of me." And from my brother, "No I'll just come to your house for our rations." Um, no. We're a family of 5 and my kids won't have meals taken away from them to help those who have been warned. It even went as far as my brother and his wife wanting to put a small "getaway" house on our property. That's a huge no. I was clear with my words on this, but i don't think that will prevent them from all just showing up. Luckily they have no clue the extent of our preparedness.

Best of luck with this channel. Let’s keep in touch.

It doesn't have to be a zombie apocalypse for things to get bad. I been though dozens of hurricanes here in Florida and just one about a month ago. Because I was so well prepared I was able live life as normal and even was able to help out my nabbors with electricity , gas , food and water. They were really surprised by how well prepared I was and now they are contributing wich I didn't expect . You would be surprised how fast resources go especially if you are trying to help people. So no you never have I don't know supplies . Also I like to rotate a lot of my canned foods and other perishables . Every year I spend a few thousand dollars on fresh cannes and I donate my old sock to a food bank.

My personal preps are much more than 3 months but when people ask me how to start, instead of telling them you need this much of this and that I tell them have enough to atleast make it through the next upcoming winter, so roughly 3 months.

Wise words, young man. I have made th a mistake of encouraging many to prep. They scoffed, and I know they will all be knocking on my door. Sorry Charlie. 1. No food for you. If someone is already desperate enough to beg, they will surely return and demand again. It won't matter a whit if I "helped" or fed them ten times, when I finally say, "No", they will not recall the help, and will be doubly enraged at my refusal. 2. I am not heartless. I keep bic lighters and can openers ready to hand out. You are free to trade up with someone else. But no food here. 3. I will render first aid, and use my supplies in an emergency. I am not a doctor, so do not ask me to prescribe and dispense antibiotics. 4. "I tried to tell you." Maybe I will have the wisdom and grace to keep it to myself... Saw SHTF for six weeks early 90's. When you know, you know.

I like the focus on building peace of mind. That’s what prepping does for me. There have been times in my life when, due to unforeseen circumstances, I did not have the funds to purchase food. The ability to simply open my pantry and take food from my storage gave me great peace of mind. Then, in times of plenty, I work on replenishing my supplies.

The trails west from Missouri to the American West are STILL littered with excess inventory. As far as supplies, a lot of supplies can be renewed with skills. Gardening, raising fruit trees, berry bushes, grape vines, chickens, other small animals. Other skills can be traded for food providing there is food to be traded for.

Prepping has become an industry. Somethings are necessity while most things are convenience. I know exactly what is necessary to survive during the winter; Sleeping bag rated for subfreezing temperatures, headlamp and the ability to heat water and soups…. That’s it. That’s all it takes. 50 miles into the wind River range, Wyoming. Spent a month there. Supplementing my supplies with fish. I spent three days in my sleeping bag During a snowstorm.

It isn't that people don't know who preps. Believe me, people know. The grocery store clerk who checks you out and sees bulk items and never a week's complete worth of groceries, just a case of this, a cryovac 12 pounds of meat and similar when stuff is on sale. The neighbor that sees you load up for the range. The electrician that installs the generator switch into the breaker box. My own banker (yes, I have a relationship with a banker for financial reasons) told me, "I drove by your house and saw that huge garden and the fruit trees. Are you some kind of prepper?" I brought up the coin shortage that happened a while back and asked if he thought I should just blindly trust the system. He replied, "When it all goes down I'm coming to your house." My reply to that was "Well, bring the kids, I'm going to want some serfs to work the land." His jaw dropped when he realized I was serious. My next line was During times of crisis there is the possibility of the prepared making Multi-Generational Wealth off the un-prepared. Even the Bible, the Torah and the Quran tell these stories. He couldn't speak. He knew the stories I had brought up. Having said all that, I've already lent out my small generator and extension cords. I've lent other tools. Have I given tours of the entire pantry? Have I opened the gun safe to show off the details? Only to family. But being able to lend tools and show expertise in some skills has given me the opportunity to convince people they need to do more for themselves. Family, 4 adult offspring. Two former military, pretty well stocked and skilled. One raising a family in the backwoods of Maine. And the one stepdaughter that breaks our heart, the angry "former" junky that has a hard time making lasting relationships. Neighbors, a bunch of gardening gun owners, business owners, teachers, working stiffs, prepared to various levels. After Helene, many prepared people kept others warm, fed and dry.

I think one of the most important things is to encourage others to prep, but to do it in a very subtle way. It’s really hard to be pushing people to prep without giving away that you have a big storage. Like how can you justify your warnings, without giving away your own preps. I have close friends that are a family of 3, when I’m alone. They know I prep, but they’re woefully unprepared. How can I prep for 3 times my needs?

My take is this: I have had this channel for a dozen years and have been homesteading for 22 years, all the while warning, cajoling, encouraging, teaching, etc. As far as I know, not one of our family members watches except my two sons who have become quite preparedness-minded. I also have done a three video series about "so, you say you're coming to our place in SHTF". Personal responsibility is a big thing with us. I am about to turn 68 and my husband is 71. I've shown my compassion by teaching in a public forum for all to see. My husband is the oldest in our immediate family, the patriarch so to speak. He is a disabled retired veteran and if others think they are going to use us when it all completely falls apart, they are sadly mistaken. We have homesteaded for over 20 years, grown gardens, canned food and keep chickens for eggs and fertilizer for the gardens. We do all that on fixed income while the younger able-bodied members of the family make generous salaries and live as if life will always be great. Why should we be expected to take care of them? In my humble opinion, even in the spirit of teaching, no creator should be showing their stocked shelves. It's one thing to know that a person is preparedness minded, knows how to can and is fairly self-sufficient, but it's another to see shelf upon shelf lined with food of all kinds and then attempt to locate that creator. Trust me, anyone can find you on the internet even if you have never revealed your last name or exact location. That unpleasant experience happened to me with a troll who called others to come attack me as I did chores around my property and doxed me on this platform (the filter caught it, thankfully). Just a warning about that. My situation had to escalate to local law enforcement after the harassment continued by email and in the comment section, just in case the creep was not blowing smoke and/or was completely unbalanced. I went on the offensive, made a video about cyberstalking showing all his nastiness with personal info removed, of course, and he finally backed off. Attacking the home of a military veteran would be a serious mistake, of course, but some are just not all that bright. Friends, family or strangers all should show personal responsibility in taking care of their own needs. Thanks for the video, sorry for the novel! ~Cynthia, N.GA mountains

@rootsrocksfeathers1975 your comment about being found online is so true. I watch a lot of varied UA-cam channels. One of my odd traits is wanting to know where they are. I'm Australian, in my mid 60's and have no desire to ever meet these people in person in their own country. However, having a very detail orientated mind set has allowed me to exactly locate at least 40% of the channels I watch , sometimes it takes months, sometimes not. Every detail in your content can be used - general area, mention of towns/ locale around you, drone shots ( especially compass orientation, sunrise, sunset, nearby features etc Google maps is NOT your friend😬). If I wanted I could turn up on your doorstep or dox your address but I never would. It's a challenge for myself. I know it's weird but to me harmless since I have no mal intent. UA-cam creators, take your anominity seriously.
