The Trial of Derg
Mengistu Haile Mariam is given life imprisonment after his conviction last month for genocide.
An Ethiopian court sentenced former ruler, Mengistu Haile Mariam, in his absence to life in prison for atrocities committed against people during his regime.
But Mengistu remains in exile in Zimbabwe and many Ethiopians feel that justice has not been served.
Reuters television takes a closer look at the situation in Ethiopia.

‘Yifter the Shifter,’ was undoubtedly one of the star turns at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Most of the competitors in his events were many years younger than him, so it’s only fair that he should have shared his knowledge and schooled them! 😂😂
A 54.5 last lap, of which Yifter sprinted the last 300. One of the big questions must remain, would Viren have been a double double champion, if the Africans had competed in Montreal. In the clip showing Virgin versus Yifter in a 10K race, the commentators keep saying how magnificent Virgin looks and how tired Yifter seems to be. In the last lap, Yifter left Virgin way (at least 100 m) behind!
We got the Legend Haile Gebre Selasie because of this championship the inspirational and great performance of Yifter the Shifter.

Our eyes were glued to the black and white TV and suddenly Miruts yifter the gear shifter started the decisive killer kick with about 300 meters to go. No one gets nearer him. He was simply out of this world, sprinting as if he did not run 25 laps, winning in a style that is very unique of him. RIP the real legend running.

Under his regime my uncle was hung to death in Eritrea and left for display. My cousin was walking to school then saw our uncle, lifeless body hanging, he ran back home and it took a while for him to live a normal life again after his was traumatised. My aunts husband was taken away tortured then hung as well. My aunt was pregnant and was left with 3 children. Later, the baby she was pregnant with turned 23, he too was killed when tplf invaded Eritrea. I remember both my cousins died. Tplf right now are being supported by the west to destroy Ethiopia. I support Ethiopia for their success. As for menghistu, it was under USA order for him to seek refuge in Zimbabwe. He is now in his 80s, I just don’t understand how he sleeps at nights. The black hitler!

Haile said in his interview he was so eager not to miss his races on the radio in the countryside he was brought up. Following Haile, a lot of superheroes/heroines were created including Kenenisa Bekele, Tirunesh Dibaba, Genzebe, Almaz, Sileshi, Workinesh and many others.

Looking at this in the year 2016 it seems so unbelievable: there's a five man group in the lead with three Ethiopians and two Finns in it! It's just so incredible to see this. Btw., both Viren and Maaninka were doping, but what about the Ethiopians?
