from a simpler time
Sure was. Would be nice to go back in time to those days.
Awesome! I loved these old boxes.
I had this EXACT enclosure (2nd Gen version) back in the day. It slammed!! Wish I still had it!!!
Awesome thank you for video
Nice Big built like a tank
My favorite line of speakers ever, with Black Gold coming in 2nd.
That thing slammed back in the day
Cool.
Did MTX use 4 or 8 ohm midranges and tweeters for that enclosure
About 3/4 of the way through the video it shows the back of the tweeter, where it says 6.4 ohm on the sticker. The midranges are stamped "8 ohm".
I picked up one of these a couple of summers ago. Original 15's worked but being 30 years out the surrounds had holes in them. Jumped on Ebay and found a set of MTX 3000's to replace them. Keep em MTX!!! Great video!!
The Terminator 15s are hard to find loose in the wild. I keep watching for four 15s to fill two empty boxes I have picked up recently myself.
Those were what got me started in car audio in 1994. Blue thunder 12s sounded so good with low power.
My favorite full range enclosure. Thank you for the video
Get on with the blue thunders already 😂
I have a few coming up next!
I have a pair of the later version of these with the Motorola tweeter. The 5" midrange speaker on one of them is missing the screen and appears to be damaged. What speaker would you recommend I use to replace the midrange speakers with? I was looking at a 4" Rockford Fosgate Prime R14X2 as they come with screens.
Why not use MTX?
@@michaelbloom5342 If you can find me MTX speakers with grills that could work. I'd like it to be full MTX but it seems like the options are limited.
Unless you can find another MTX box to part out to get the correct midrange, the next closest thing I've found is from Parts Express. "GRS 5SBM-8 5" Sealed Back Midrange" Part #292-432 . They are a very close match with the dimples around the mounting holes on the flange being the most obvious difference. The grille is a slightly larger diameter so it won't transfer over to the original speaker. They are inexpensive, so it might be a good idea to swap them out on both of your enclosures and keep the good original one as a spare.
@@A.D.s_Audio Nice find! I'll give that a shot.
Just picked up a pair. Can’t figure out how to separate the grill from the woofer to clean it
I usually use a putty knife and gently pry them apart. Be careful, as the plastic on woofer basket gets brittle and will break if you're too aggressive.
@@A.D.s_Audio that’s what I ended up doing. Nerve wracking to say the least.
Another great old school MTX review. Keep the videos coming !!!
So strange to have DVC sub that could receive different power from each channel if there was a lot of stereo bass content. Thanks for sharing and showing off the internals!
The next enclosure video will feature a DVC 10" in a similar arrangement.
these sold at Circuit City for usually around $200-$225. Super popular back then
Love old school mtx speakers, had a few Road thunder 2 enclosures that sound good back in the day.
Old school ftw!
Another great video !! Are those 8 ohm sealed back Mids ?
There's no markings on them. I checked eight different ones with a multimeter and 7 ohms was consistent reading.
I would take close to 7 Ohms as 8 Ohms. And If it was five 5 Ohms then i would think 4 Ohms. I'm pretty sure with stereo in general it goes 1 Ohm , 2 Ohm , 4 Ohm , 8 Ohm then 16 Ohm. I Don't know of anything higher then 16 Ohm . 0:04 So I'm rounding my 7.7 6.9 7.6 readings up to 8 Ohms. I have one damaged Midrange speaker then I need. Box still plays great. 😊
I like these videos because I have a bunch of mtx enclosures, just like the ones in the videos.
Are the 5” sealed back midranges 4ohms or 8 ohms each ? I know some of those midranges in other MTX Road Thunder enclosures were 8 ohms
There's no markings on them. I checked eight different ones with a multimeter and 7 ohms was consistent reading.
This is the one I still need to get into Mt collection. Are there any for sale ?
Sorry, none for sale.
@@A.D.s_Audio. Where are you located? Do you have any pictures & what kind of shape is it in ?
@@A.D.s_Audio Sorry I miss read this. None fore sale. Thank you anyway.
Hope he makes a video on the MTX 225HBX the mondo box. I have that one and I can't find any info on it
Can you post a photo of your speaker box ?
If I ever get lucky enough to own one, or close enough to one, I'd love to make a video!
@A.D.'s Audio I have one. The box is huge.
Awesome info on this classic speaker box. Man, back then it seems like almost all of the boxes were full range and only a handful of sub only ones. These are truly like home speakers just repurposed for car audio...except maybe those Piezo tweeters.
I have a few of these enclosures but I'm always looking for the one's I Don't already have.
