Damn looks like a cross between valheim and vrising
Although winter is biting cold, there is overall less biting involved, though some similarities in graphics, sure. V Rising graphics reminded me of Baldur's Gate when I first saw it.
Looks like Valhiem 😋
Definitely some similarities, though less trolls!
Very useful trick thanks
Sadly I had to use meat instead of spicy tuna, but glad you liked it anyhow. :)
@@aceofbasesOG lol
Hehe, good work! You are incredibly thorough and methodical. Waiting for the metal age, and an upgraded village with walls and defences.
Iron is very close. Thanks for your kind words. :)
There is no waste of arrows. You are ruining the defense by wasting three people who could train their capabilities otherwise and you make them clog the gatherers hut with unused feathers.
Thanks for the input! :)
Tripura?
The name of the village. :)
Fortresses are so perfect to base in. Currently my plan is to keep hopping from fortress to fortress and place portals down in every one once they're cleared, naming them fortress1, 2 ,3, etc. so its easy to return to. And I'll slowly make my way toward one of the fader spots that i have revealed on my map and then find the closest fortress to there (as long as its not too close since he probably destroys tons of shit). Then i'll finally set up a proper ashlands build with a fully transformed fortress. Love seeing these videos pop up because its giving me tons of ideas and tips.
He does indeed destroy a large area. Glad you enjoyed the video. Fortresses do make a good, durable FOB. Post a link to your build when you finish it!
Why'd you name it Tripura tho?
Thanks for asking. :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripura_(mythology)
@@aceofbasesOG huh, here I was thinking you named it after the state in India.
Great to see this start again! Hope to see civilization creep in, with some nice houses etc. Btw, would be great if you reorganized the playlist; as of now it's upside down with some muddle in the middle. :-D
More coming later today, and thanks for pointing out the sorting issue. I had it set to sort by publish date, but apparently that got a little messed up. Fixed now. :)
So, what now? No more episodes? Was looking forward to the village entering the metal age.
More episodes almost ready, some post-production needed and will upload. Thanks for checking in! Give me a few days and I'll post more.
Well, winter seems terrible! And boring, in a desperate way =P. Hope you get more clothes made.
Yes, playing at a casual pace does have drawbacks. Not well equipped for the first winter, but it will get better for sure. At least we're not cutting open Tauntauns and crawling inside them just yet. :)
Weird that you can't repair tools and weapons, but have to recraft them the whole time. Hope that gets added.
I'd like that as well and think it wouldn't be too hard to implement. New building- Repair Workstation. Adding a wood piece to an existing tool would improve its condition by x number of points. It could even be staffed by a villager. Fingers crossed for some repair option eventually! :)
Very relaxing and informative. I'll follow this to the end.
I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks!
I thank you sir, and intend to put this guide to use when going to my homeland of PV. The weather really is quite pleasant, you just need to adapt to it.
Glad you found it useful! PV is my first choice as well, not least because of this very car, bear path, and the 6-burner stove in the kitchen. Enjoy those Pleasant Valley Sundays!
Rumor has it Toyota paired up with Nokia to build Great Bear's fleet of vehicles.
LOL. True enough. Fortunate that they all came standard with the plot-armor package.
That's great. Have been working on a base of my own but I didn't know the stairs could be taken out and I particularly like the parapet and central stairway. Thanks for the ideas.
Glad you found them useful! It's a fun place to build. Looking forward to seeing what you make. :)
@@aceofbasesOG Can I ask why you used Black Marble and why you built the roof/floor lower than the top of the parapet?
Black marble because I have a ton of it, I like the look for some things, and it has good durability. I presumed it would have to stand up to Valkyrie fire, at least until the ballista could knock them down. As for the Roof height, it was mostly dictated by the hole in the center tower. As it was, you still have to take a few steps up after exiting the tower. Making it flush with the top of the fortress would have made the final stairway well even deeper. Also, the floor below had high enough ceilings at that point, so a higher ceiling would have felt like wasted space. Finally, I liked the look of the various levels.
Great tip!
Glad it was helpful. Thanks!
❤
Thank you! :)
Awesome build
Hey, thanks! It was definitely a lot of fun to put it together.
theres no way NPC automatically craft thier own bait?
I haven't found a method as of yet. I've seen forum posts requesting the feature, and haven't seen anyone respond with a way to do it, so as far as I know, the answer is no. That being said, I've noticed that they continue to catch fish without bait, so it's either unnecessary, or it's specific to catching specific fish, etc. I haven't done testing to see if having bait increases the catch volume. I'll try an experiment eventually with side-by-side fishing huts, giving one of them some bait and none for the other and see if there's a difference, but right now they seem to be doing ok without bait. Thanks for the question. :)
Activate Windows
IKR? Thanks! :)
this was so helpful :) thanks a lot
I'm glad it helped. Thanks for the comment. :)
Go to settings to Activate Windows
Thanks for the suggestion, and the comment! :)
did you destroy the internal door which attached to the central tower?
The door inside the fortress into the center tower was destroyed, along with the part of the tower below that door. As I lowered the dirt level, the tower fell apart until what you see was floating in the air. The door I destroyed in the very beginning to get inside, but I did try to minimize the damage when I broke it so that the arch and surrounding walls would be as undamaged as possible.
very chill run , interseting to know how you started this one. i play very differently hehe
I was on the developer's Discord, looking for seeds to start my 'real' run, after a couple short "getting-acquainted" villages. Once I'm comfortable with the controls, and the basic mechanics of a game I'll generally create the map I'm likely to stick with until endgame. A user was describing this seed, and I liked it, so I created a new world to do a small bit of scouting first and make sure this spot would work well for what I was envisioning. I quit on Day 6, iirc, after scouting the Western 1/3 of the island or so (and a bit of terraforming) and started the series that I've recorded here. Thanks for the comment!
adding fence might help with the security issue. love your show. just found your channel and binge watched this series.
Thanks for the comment, and the compliment! I have a love-hate relationship with fences and gates in ASKA. I played Medieval Dynasty just before this game, and fences were exceedingly easy to place, and conformed nicely to the terrain. The ASKA implementation of them is decidedly less user-friendly. And, to make enough to really make a difference feels like a fair bit of work at this stage. But rest assured, the long-term plan is for fences, and eventually walls. Right now, I'm just paying the Smolkr tax and grumbling about it.
Well, the watchtowers certainly doesnt seem tp work very well.
@@haakontangvald-pedersen8374 They've certainly got some issues. I've found that the best use of them is to assign a villager, but set their schedule to be 'off' all day. The tower shows as occupied for purposes of villager safety, but the person 'working' at the tower never actually works there, so they don't get stuck and die of cold or starvation/dehydration. Also, if they're not in the tower, they're not wasting a dozen arrows every time a Smolkr runs by.
hey , so you on twich ! i hope you will upload the next episodes.
Hey, thanks for the question. Twitch is www.twitch.tv/aceofbasesca and I'll definitely keep uploading episodes. Glad you're enjoying them!
Easiest method to kill a bear: Get flare pistol Let it charge Wait until it's around 20ft away from you Boop it in the face with the flare. It's scary, but works every time if you don't mess up your shot or forget to load the round in the pistol.
That's certainly one way, though not very safe if you miss, and certainly not cheap as there are limited flare rounds in the world. This also depends on having found the flare gun. This video is about safety and ammo cost, but the flare gun is fun, no doubt! Of course, he usually runs off afterwards to die in a lonely corner of the map, so it's a bit tougher to load all that meat into a storage container a few feet away. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
@@aceofbasesOG The video works, dead on - I've done it myself many times. Waiting in the car for bleedout. As to the flare gun method - it's reliable; if you miss he runs away, if you hit, he drops dead 99% of the time on the spot. Seriously. It's super easy. Thanks for the vid :)
Looks great! Hope to see how you furnish it later, also, is the boss encounter that destructive that it's a threat to the keep base?
I'll do a video of the interior with the current state of build-out in the near future. Thanks for the message, and the compliment. Yes, the boss fight has the potential to be very destructive to the surrounding area. Unsure whether the boss AoE attack would penetrate the walls, but if it did the majority, if not the entire build would be demolished. Also, the walls might not be as durable as we think against his attack, so it might even level the fortress itself instead of just the contents. Maybe I'll do a video of that fight at the castle on a backup save, for science!
What's the seed name as its blurry in the video . Ty
debugmode
...or they built it pretty much the same tools and primatives that we are using to build (just with different skins).
I agree, probably the same toolset. I said as much at ~5:20. Thanks for the comment!
I read the title and though it was a real life tip
My advice works in real life as well, though only if the car is signifcantly up-armored. The US presidential limo would probably work. Bring keys. :)
I did not know that the central tower collapses if not supported. That might explain why I'm finding random mable laying around
Only partially. Once I'd excavated all the dirt there was a tower floating in the air, ending at the bottom of the tower doorway. I believe the dropped material was Grausten, but my memory may be faulty. :)
thats a nice looking build.
Thank you! I'll post another video soon with a walkthrough of the now mostly finished interior. It turned out nice, I think. :)
Aaaaaah, thank you! I've been pulling my hair out trying to get stuff to line up right. My OCD couldn't take that kind of heat. This helps so much.
Glad that did the trick! Going to build something awesome?
@@aceofbasesOG The fact that I was able to secure any sort of base in Ashlands is already a miracle. But yes, I'm about to stone this baby up and get busy setting up camp. How did you get into the middle tower? I like that opening for your stairs in it.
@@Fade_Bloodlace The battering ram and the catapult will both destroy charred fortress blocks, including the doors with the spikes. Both are like using a sledgehammer with your eyes closed to open a door, but they'll do the job. The battering ram is towed like a cart, and make sure to bring a few pieces of wood to fuel it. You'll stand in front of it, between the handles, and facing the spikes. Not intuitive. If you're very careful you can remove the door with little damage to the surrounding tower. Both are in the first tab of your build menu. Congrats on your foothold in asthma-ville!
My personal build i started by evening area to doorway ground level and it still fit perfectly. That snap point is nice but not necessary with how nicely shaped the fortresses are to fit 4x4 floors perfectly.
Sounds great! It does seem like they intended to make it easy to build inside.
poor bear..
Poor bear indeed. Poor, warm, delicious bear. :)
I walked up to the bear and it killed itself
Everyone has a superpower! You must only use this ability for good, never for evil. :)
I found another viaduct last night in better condition. The final count was 192 iron ingots and 31 stacks of black marble for about 30 minutes of time. Well worth it!
If you’re only going to shoot the bear once or maybe twice, use a bow, and not the revolver: the bow does much higher bleed damage/it takes a lot less time to bleed out than shooting it will. Note that Moose don’t bleed.
Great note about the moose! I'll end up using whatever ammo I have in abundance, since time till death isn't much of an issue in this case, but when time is of the essence, duration of bleed-out would definitely be something to consider. In this particular instance, I'd tend towards a bullet since I'm in a position to afford the extra time and would want to reserve the arrows for a location where time is more important. Though that scenario is pretty unlikely, this game has taught me that sometimes small decisions can have big implications later. I appreciate the feedback!
its all fun and games until a valcary attacks
These things happen. I'm working on getting a Valkyrie trophy so ballistae on the roof can be targeted, but until then I'll have to depend on workbenches surrounding the neighborhood and my own ability to take them down fast with magic. I did have one attack a much smaller build I had in another keep, and the damage was pretty negligible. Between my attacks and the spikes on the keep tower, the Valkyrie went down pretty fast and all that got destroyed was a workbench sitting at the base of the keep. But, in the end, it's a game and any rebuilding will be just as much fun as the first time I put it up. :) Update: Pulled a full-health Valkyrie onto the fort. I have a one-star Asksvin up top, plus 6 ballistae set to Valkyries. Final loss was 3 decorative charred beams from under the top floor, and 75% of the lizard's health. And a torch. She dropped pretty fast from just the Ask's attacks and the ballistae. 8 missiles fired total between them. It was a non-event. Minor repairs after just topping up all the build pieces and replacing the 3 decorative beams. 9/10.
Glad to see that some people are using the fortresses as a base or atleast on how to turn one into a base ✌🏽✌🏽
I just couldn't pass it up, given how perfectly everything fits. In any game I play that has ruins or abandoned structures, I try and repurpose them before building from scratch. Thanks for the comment!
If you remove all the black marble pieces with the hammer, the remaining pieces will fall down much quicker. I also like to launch some fireballs at the middle of the "T" of the iron rebar structure, which also helps with the remaining pieces collapsing faster. And are you sure that damaged pieces drop less parts then ones with full health? Never heard that before, and mining with a pickaxe is also just applying damage to it.
I'm careful not to be too sure of anything when making a video, as things change with patches, mods, etc. I do remember early in my Valheim playing that deconstructing a damaged floor outside in the weather at 50% would return less resources than a floor at 100% from inside. Of course, since then there have been many updates, patches, and I've started using mods like ValheimPlus, which can all affect that equation. I'm pretty certain that at some point I turned on 100% resource return, probably in VPlus, so, in my case, I get everything back. However, I'm presuming that someone who is playing Vanilla might get back less on damaged parts, so I mentioned it and was deliberate to say that I wasn't sure. :) Great tip with the fireballs to hasten the collapse. Thank you for sharing it!
My first thought when you were in the car and he was outside was "Roll the window down!!" :D :D *immersion* Nice video!
D'oh! I removed the car battery to make ammo otherwise this is a great idea! :P
Once you reach Ashlands and acquire Flametal, you get a new, more efficient method of harvesting most resources: the Battering Ram. It can destroy rocks, ore nodes, ancient armors and weapons, black marble and grausten structures and more - pretty much anything that isn't a tree or a monster. It also cannot affect terrain, unlike the pickaxe, which makes it ideal for this type of harvesting. It doesn't require a stonecutter or a forge table, only a workbench - and it's wood fired! Don't forget that the Jotun bones yield black marble, too - the ribcages are a great and easy source of black marble but don't yield iron.
I do like the battering ram, but mostly for ruins. Very effective way to break them down for a great amount of Grausten, somewhat quickly. For the viaducts I think the hammer is the way to go because of the ease of tossing down a stonecutter and middle-clicking a few blocks. Sometimes, as in the video, the terrain is much less conducive to wheeling the battering ram around. I play with a few mods as well, so everyone's experience may be different. For Grausten, I break the big rocks with a pickaxe, as I use the TopMining mod. This breaks rocks from the bottom up, so no digging in the terrain. Also, when the rock is broken high enough to clear the dirt, the entire thing collapses with one final hit. It leaves a very clean site, as the ground terrain is left completely untouched. It takes about 4 minutes to break a huge rock completely and yields about 2 stacks more than a full cart and inventory carry. I usually have to run back to bring back the final bits in a second trip. You have definitely made me start thinking about the battering ram vs previously indestructible objects, though. The plains towers? That might be an awesome way to get stone and iron, iirc the contents. Also the plains rock pillars. I'll test those today. Thank you for the tip! Update: The beserker tower is still invincible even to the battering ram. It could've been awesome. As for stone pillars in the plains, I'd forgotten they are normally breakable stone. However, unexpectedly, they also float in the air. I wasn't able to get it to explode from gravity until it was destroyed about halfway up to the top. It also netted only around ~325 stone, which is less than I expected. Good times trying stuff out. Thanks again for the ideas!
this video is so good. i love valheim now
There is plenty to love, for sure! Thank you for the compliment. :)
Really nice build, great video!
Thank you!
The best part about this game, is that darned Windows watermark is practically invisible when you are outside (i have the watermark)
