Identification & Management Of Phomopsis Fruit Rot In Guava | Farming Inspirations
#PhomopsisFruitRot #GuavaFruitRot #GuavaCultivation #GuavaFarming #FarmingInspirations #FI
Phomopsis fruit rot otherwise quoted as styler end rot is one among the major fruit rot diseases that affects guava plantations. The disease is caused by the ascomycete fungi Phomopsis psidii, whose characteristic symtoms initially appear on unripe fruits at the blossom end and adjoining the persisitent calyx. Infected fruits show small, apparent, white to brown circular spots that tend to extend over the fruit surface when it’s ripen. The infected fruits epicarp and mesocarp region turn into soft and discoloured tissues, emitting an unpleasant odour when opened. One of the key factor of fungal disease management is prevention. Taking a preventive spray of fungicides before the onset of the disease or at initial stages will aid in better disease control. Systemic, contact as well as bio-fungicide can be recommended.
