This video sets out a set of skirmish wargame rules I have written, called Gangland Gunplay, covering 20th century combat. These rules can be used for any scenario where small numbers of people dressed in their everyday clothes are fighting hand to hand or with small arms. As well as setting out the basic rules and how to use them, enabling you to play a basic game, the video explains the inspi...

First World War Aerial Wargame Rules: Hexes and Halberstadts
"I have taken an English translation, arranged it into something resembling rhyming couplets, and chanted it". Where is the translation? What are the lyrics? Why no subtitles? Can you put the words in the description?
Outrageous. Those slings and arrows. A good depiction of an organised and well led force. Perhaps the absence of the bills was the undoing of the orcs.
Nasty business.
I really love your videos and the look and style of your table. Keep up the great work
Thank you. I will do my best!
Should come with a disclaimer- no livestock accidentally killed in this exchange of archery. That's a great example of seizing your moment and going for it. Conditions perfect for a reckoning.
That's what you get for messing with some Halflings for "sport"!
Halflings are small. But they should not be hunted for fun.
What are those figurines in your thumbnails?
They are 1/72nd scale plastic figures from Dark Alliance
Hlflings in ths entire setting seem really overpowered
I think the halfling victories have more to do with tactics and luck than halflings being intrinsically overpowered. The rules do apply explicit penalties to halflings, especially in melee combat.
This is fascinating story stelling man, I know I am two years behing the series rn, but it's truely astounding what you came up with
Thank you
It was amazing how effective the missile troops were in this particular battle, especially compared to some of your others where they don’t seem to fair as well.
Yes. I think on this occasion the Dogopolitans got a bit lucky. So it goes.
I do enjoy your exciting, clear, and measured method of telling the stories from your imagination. I would go so far to say you are the best teller of tales of all the miniature gamers I’ve seen on YT. You are very inspirational as a modeler and a miniature gamer. I look forward to many more stories regarding the inhabitants of Halfland.

Thank you. That's very kind. And don't worry. There will be more.
Missiles seem to be hampering the orcish machinations.
Indeed. Maybe the Orcs need to refine their tactics. But somehow, I doubt that they will.
it is good to see the ways of orcish life.
Well that did not turn out how I thought it would.
Cracking stuff. I love seeing how a halfland battle plays out.
Interesting. Almost all of my gaming is solo, with for me the narrative (even for one-off games) being key; I have to know why they my guys are on the field, doing what they're doing; the game alone is not enough to satisfy.. A campaign, of course, supplies its own narrative, reasons for an action etc. etc. I have made and used my own maps & different systems, and (as I see others below have) used board games (inc. commercial board games) as the basis for campaign and as "battle generators". My tabletop rules themselves are constantly evolving, to supply me with challenges; be those managing my own (sometimes recalcitrant) army or finding or fighting an "AI-controlled" enemy. Some of my ways/methods & thoughts are on my (somewhat random) blog (denyers.blogspot.com/2018/04/introduction-after-lot-of-interest.html), where I'm always interested in ideas, discussion & feedback.
The inner fighting of the Orcs conducting these ritual combats = excellent story telling.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Another Great Entry for Halfland!
damn, so many deaths in every single one of these battles so far
That seems to be how it usually goes...
As always these new 4 Narrative Battle Reports and History are Great.
Thank you.
This series in a way inspired me to create my very own world. At the moment I need to do my dreaded task of coming up with a map for my continent, but I am willing to leave my comfort zone and draw something... maybe I will do that in combination with my planned bycicle ride tommorow... I have an exciting phase in my life right now where I just graduated job training last tuesday, began working a real damn job this week (for the first time in my life) and had to kinda get to grips with the reality that I won't see the friends I made in class from the last summer to now anymore every single day of the week, I know they will be the one very certain constant in my life from now on, which gives me more peace of mind then I can put in words tbh, but it feels kinda good to take a break from all that (very cool, yet still pretty exhausting) chaos in my life by literally getting into another world and not just another world, but one that only exists, because I thought it should. So yeah: Thanks for the insperation dude!
Glad to have been of service. And good luck with all of it!
I jsut got in and this wonderful story was waiting for me. Tonight is a good night. Thanks.
It seems really cool, i've sent an email, great work!!
Thank you. It's always good to hear from people out there who enjoy this stuff. E-mail received and rules sent. I hope you have fun with them.
Just found the series- very awesome! Love the smaller chapters, well edited and written- this is such a cool way to solo play- great job!
Well thank you, Sir! Glad you are enjoying it.
An interesting video that I agree with on many points. Makes you want to start a campaign again. 😊
Thank you...and go for it!
The long arm of the law was cut down to size by Trevor. Great stuff.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
I absolutely love these narrative battles, they're so fun and original. I look forward to finding out what happens next :D
Thank you. That's great to hear.
This sounds fascinating, and is encouraging me to try out solo wargaming in an imaginary world of my own design. Not the lack of arts and crafts (I enjoy that part) but the flexibility and being able to make my own lore instead of depending on lore I want to take apart and redo because I don't like it the way it is. Probably use someone else's rule though - I don't have a clue how to write a rule set and no real interest in it.
The great thing about solo wargaming is that you can spend your time on the things that bring you joy, whether that be the crafting, the rule writing, the world building, the story telling, or whatever, and not on the things that don't. Go for it!
Hi another entertaining video. Could you answer this please? Are you from NW UK?
From England , but not NW. Born and brought up in Yorkshire, but I have lived in the south for many years.
@@jamesathertonyt Cheers for that. It is just like you sound that you come from where I live and I was wondering if you did we could hook up as I have a non-white gang from the same box set as you're using, who would have loved to muscle in on the strawberry market of Hoodsbourgh. Anyway, keep up the entertainment, it's great fun.
I loved how effective Sgt Smith and his lawgiver truncheon of righteousness was in that game. He must have had training by William E Fairbairn on a brief secondment from Hooddborough to the Shanghai police.
Yes indeed. Sergeant Smith is a legend.
Definitely leading the way ! This is what wargaming should be about
Thank you
Beautiful miniatures here!
Thank you
Glad you brought it back!
Don't worry. There is plenty more Halfland to come.
I am really happy to see more Halfland background, great stuff.
Thank you. It is good that you like it, as there is more to come!
@@jamesathertonyt Great. i was worried that your gangland games had taken over from Halfland.
No, not taken over, but will be running in parallel for a while. There are a couple of gangland gunplay videos in progress, which will be followed in due course by the next instalment of the Halfland saga. I've also got a WW2 project on the go, so there might be a video or two on that at some point.
Hi is it possible have the Channel email?
The channel e-mail address is: jathertonyt@yahoo.com.
what a great campaign. I love the theme! Can't wait to see what will happen next in the Hoodsbrough Hostilities
Thank you. I'm glad you are enjoying it. There is more Hoodsbrough to come, but I also need to get back to Halfland...
A man after my own heart. I keep a battle reports journal. In the beginning it was just notes to make sure my mind didn't wander. Then I tried recreating the histories of battles I read about in history books. Now I single out a single battalion and report the battle from their point of view.
That is an interesting approach, and provides some food for thought.
Another great bit of skirmish action. I kind of feel for the gangsters, luck has not been with them.
Thank you. The gangsters have indeed had a tough time.
I like how this is like a British comedy but mixed with the soprano's or some such
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
How did you keep a straight face? Brilliant work. I could relate to that quite a bit. Except the pub in my town was the Station Hotel and it was a John Smith's house, rather than the Tetley Railway Hotel in this episode. Ah. Traditional values, simpler times, good use made of public open spaces!
Thank you. I always preferred John Smiths to Tetley.
@@jamesathertonytWhitbread for me, but that's a long time ago!
I find your videos intriguing but would enjoy them more if you were less British. Could you consider addressing this for future videos?
Thank you for your feedback. I will indeed consider it carefully, but I am afraid that my options here may be limited.
Very Interesting, this era is one that is not one that is widely covered.
Thanks
Did England ever go through a prohibition?
No way. We are too fond of beer for that ever to happen!
@@jamesathertonytin any event, true to life. Knock off alcohol is always doing the rounds here. I can recall potcheen being sold from car boots along with iffy rolling tobacco.
What a great beginning to the campaign! It looks like it is going to be a bloody affair.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. As to future shedding of blood, well, the dice will decide.
The rules look like they will be a lot of fun. i have fired off an email to you, I just need to get some terrain sorted.
I have sent the rules over to you. Regarding terrain, I used a lot of cardboard. There are various websites out there where you can download kits for cardboard buildings, and then it is just a question of gluing, cutting and pasting,.
An interesting piece, thank you for sharing it.
Thanks for listening!
I wonder how a pink hussar would do in such environments?
The Pink Hussars laugh in the face of danger, so I have no doubt that they would simply charge in and start mixing it. And do quite well.
1/72 is a great choice for this genre. The zombies, survivors and rednecks are terrific models. I bought mine as sprues for those types o didnt need many of. Kid's toy cars are avaliable at this scale for a very reasonable price. I also picked up some armour, just because...
Just came across your channel. Glad I did. Napoleonic & Horus heresy gamer so I don’t really belong here, but I just want to watch (I won’t bother anyone)
