    Shut the front door! You can just knit for second row of Half Fisherman's rib. That would be game changing! I love love love the look but the one cardi I made was so slow and frustrating because I could never remember which row I was on....

    This is so helpful DH. Not being a large boi, I wasn't sure how helpful it would be. But the shirt trick is brilliant for both the disphoric family and the grumpy no touchy teens. My body doesn't fit well within standard measurements(hence the reason I started looking to make my own) And with a big family and a hate of swatching, thus far I have just dove into patterns and then passed badly fitting sweaters round until they found a home, I would like to actually make things that fit the right way (now I have knit enough to know what I actually like).

    A very helpful video, thank you! A good way to measure your hips is to wear a close fitting garment with side seams that won't move around, then take two measurements front and back from seam to seam. Add them together for your hip measurment. Just make sure to measure from the same points on each seam.

    • @thecozydh
      @thecozydh Місяць тому

      That's a great tip, thank you for sharing! Using the seams as a stable point is brilliant.

    For taking measurements if you don't have a fabric measuring tape (or if yours isn't long enough), you can also wrap a piece of string/yarn around where you want to measure, and measure the length of string!

    • @thecozydh
      @thecozydh Місяць тому

      Thanks for the tip! The only caveat I have to this one is if you're using some kind of string that has some stretch to it (like yarn), make sure that you aren't stretching it out when measuring, as that can skew the results.

    I think Retro Claude always knits socks flat. She's a disabled creator and does mostly historical things, and most of those knitting patterns are on straight needles. So much sympathy about unexpected fireworks....

    • @thecozydh
      @thecozydh 3 місяці тому

      I adore Retro Claude - and I have knit socks flat before from some vintage patterns! I couldn't get the sizing right - I think these will be a lot closer to a "standard" sock recipe.

    I got an 18 pice Knitting needle set at a "dollar store". They where so fimsy but better then buying every size in a good quality and then never using them. Only reason for me to buy needles off amazon is shipping. I pay a bit more per needle but if one broke and i need a replacement fast. Amazon is the way to go. It gets here in 2 days and i don't pay double the price cause of shipping. This has saved me before when my most used wooden needle snapped.

    I see that you're knitting with the yarn in your right hand, throwing style? Either way you're letting go of the right needle, wrapping the yarn and then grabbing the needle again. Have you considered trying picking, or even Portuguese knitting? Even if you also learn flicking style, working some sections/projects with a right-held method and some sections with a left-held method will give your shoulders a break.

    • @thecozydh
      @thecozydh 3 місяці тому

      You make a good point on the shoulder being related to the method of knitting. A different style could definitely alleviate that - more future knitting science?? I know personally that tensioning the yarn in the left and trying to pick results in cramping in the left hand very quickly. I know how to do it, I just prefer throwing.

    • @Treegona
      @Treegona 3 місяці тому

      @@thecozydh I think it depends on what you're used to. If I'm having trouble with tension I wrap the yarn around my ring finger and that adds enough resistance that I can let the yarn just run over my index finger. Then I can move that closer to or further from the needles to ease or increase tension. I also know that it increases the strain on my hand if I leave that working section too long. The YT channel Arne and Carlos has/have a video on norwegian-style knitting (?v=8WFodif41QM), that kind of shows what I mean by keeping everything close and keeping the movements small. I'd certainly say that this would be a good topic for the next knitting science experiment.

  • @corriemcclain7960
    @corriemcclain7960 4 місяці тому

    I'm going to have to try this too. I get wrist pain in the same places. Right now the only thing I know if that I need to keep and small needle project and a thick needle project that I alternate between because that seems to help with pain

    I was actually wanting something like this video. Didn’t say it out loud. Never watched your videos before. This pops up. The algorithm is crazy. I’m making yarn from plastic bags (cutting them into strips and braiding them) and knitting them and it’s not been kind on my hands.

    • @thecozydh
      @thecozydh 4 місяці тому

      Yikes! Plastic bags sounds rough. Definitely do some testing on different methods so you don't tear yourself up. Would love to see what you're working on!

    • @annalong9741
      @annalong9741 4 місяці тому

      @@thecozydh the real fun part is that braiding them causes friction in the first knuckles of my index and middle fingers so first they actually got a friction sore and are now forming small clauses. The yarn it makes is…interesting. It holds form really well so it’s almost impossible to lose a stitch. It’s weirdly hard but still got some stretch to the knit when it’s done? So far I’ve just got I’d say 14 inches wide and about five inches tall. The goal is to make a reusable shopping bag out of disposable ones. OR a fine art piece on the consumerism of America and our ability to reuse (I pulled that out of my ass) that I can try to sell for millions. I’ve got pretty long knitting needles but I anchor the one im knitting on to under my armpit and then leave the other one free if that makes sense
