Barb and Marilyn--great Job of the Our Father dialogue. What a creative way to teach about the importance of Prayer. Knowing the Madonna's Don and honouring his name is so important. That is why we are baptized in the Name of the Father...the Name of the Son and the Name of the Holy Spirit. Christianity is rooted in the testimony of the Greeks. The Greeks to this day worship the Triune God...God in Three unique persons united to a fourth. In Jesus' day the Woman Jesus called Mother would have been viewed as a child under the authority of the Father. She like the Teacher of Israel a.ka.John would have been asked by her disciples to teach her children, her followers how to pray as John did. Patriarchal language deceives some. Don't be fooled. Thus the Woman Jesus called the Madonna may have begun by pointing out how in the (Song) Psalm 128:3 the Singer songwriter reminds the sons of David's descendants... how those who walk in the ways of God (who created man in HIS own image male and female) will honour their mother and their father as it is in heaven... your wife will be like a fruitful vine flourishing within your house, your sons like olive shoots sitting around your table." The Madonna may also have quoted Psalm 123 because women and men are to lift up their eyes. They are not to be slaves to their Father or their Mother. Neither are they to be slaves to other men, other people, or righteousness, duty or debts or hunger. Their Father is humble. He listens to his children praying as he listens to Jesus the Teacher called John the Greeks call Apollo and he listens to the Woman Jesus called Mary---even in his earthly manifestation as the rock headed Jo sephas by some and the Man Jesus called Simon. The Madonna eventually gets the Truth through his thick SKULL that he is not an ordinary man. He is the Everlasting Father and this role he's been chosen for as her Bridegroom is Sacred. He and his name are hallowed. As Scripture reveals. Eventually the Father hears the Woman Jesus praying in the garden. Her prayers and the prayers of the temple guards compel him. He lifts up the Cross (Mark 5:21) and hears her crying out to him saying: "Father into thy hands I commit my [whole] Spirit [with my fiery tongue] and my very last breath" And with those words...Joseph asks Pilate for the body of Jesus and then the work of Easter begins and the Woman Jesus called Mary lets go of the Teacher of Israel. Christ the Everlasting Father takes the Woman Jesus John called Mother by the hand and the two become one and raise a divine family of which the John aka the Teacher of Israel aka Nicodemus aka Moses is the first born again! I think the United Church Hymn the When Long Before Time (The Singer and the Song) expresses how the Mother and the Father give us life, our daily bread...the best. In closing, I just want to say, I am so proud of the UCW and very grateful for the opportunity to serve on the executive of the Fraser Presbyterial in British Columbia for many years. Your reflection Barb with your dialogue with Marilyn as the Father was so UCW!!! I loved it and I wish I had been at the 60th in Sydney to celebrate the mission and purpose of the UCW.
