Just like any investment you never sell when the market s down, that's the #1 rule. Things always bounce back and when people feel comfortable spending again they will be buying guitars and other non-essential items and toys. Never take advice from people who will benefit from you selling low either like resellers, they want you to panic sell so they can profit.
if gasoline was $1/ gl when you bought the guitar and now it's 3.50+ and you want to break even....better "sharpen ur pencil"....imo
I'm so glad you made that Guitar Apolcalypse video. Love your channel, Mark
After nearly 50 years of guitar playing, I've tried just about every type of clip-on guitar tuner, be it on the headstock or in the sound hole. Aside from a pedal tuner (always for live gigs), the best clip-on tuner I have ever used has to be the Polytune. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny.
I don’t see it. Any desirable guitar is still expensive - used or new. And yeah, if people don’t get money for their crappy Chinese or Indonesian junkers it’s not surprising. Looking at Teles at the moment and prices are high and even up.
The Mexican Luthiers have a lot of pride in their work. Maybe one day there will be an offshoot factory in mexico to compete with fender. The craftsmanship is there.
Fender guitars are made in Mexico by Mexicans. Fender guitars made in California are still made by, you guessed it... Mexicans! 😏
I bought or ordered some nice guitars during the pandemic, and it helped the shops I bought from and the folks I (volunteer) play for (memory care, nursing homes, assisted living...those who can't get out). My wife, just before she died from leukemia, allowed me to get a nice guitar for myself for my birthday, Christmas, or anniversary, and have it come from her. These would be heirloom guitars for the kids and grandchildren that "Grandpa played." Fortunately, many of them play something, except the 2 still in diapers. I have given some guitars already, although some are nice starter guitars or firefighter camp guitars. They ARE an investment in the future, just not necessarily a financial one. Thanks
I've been playing for over 56 years. I am a weirdo when it comes to instruments. I have to play it before I buy it. The instrument has to pick me. Just because its a Gibson Les Paul standard doesn't mean it's a great guitar. It may be a GREAT guitar, but the guitar doesn't speak to me. I have NEVER purchased a guitar as an "investment" I buy them as TOOLS that are used. I am not a full-time working musician but I do work and a worker needs a decent tool with which to apply his or her trade
The thing I hate is when people perform with the clip on tuner left on the guitar. After you tune, just take it off. I don’t know why, but it bugs me.
Snarks less than a full meal at McDonalds, I like the display so I’ll stay with it!
Had two. Sold both. Had many others. Tube, solid state. Many pedals. I’m just a bedroom player. I’ve settled on a katana. Good tone at low volume. Minimal clutter.
I've watched a couple of your videos..I'd happily buy a guitar from you. All the best and happy holidays.
I bought a tele MIM at a pawn shop $420. I upgraded all components locking tuners, new 3 saddle bridge, new pots with 47 ohm cap with a new switch. Seymore Duncan five 2 pick ups. Also added a pearl pick guard. This thing rocks!
My 1995 mexican strat I cut it into a v sort of guitar in my teens finding it was made from 7 pieces of bass wood glued together lol.. I've since added 2 pieces of wood sanded and painted it back to its original shape.. now 9 piece body
Mark - are you a left-handed player? You're holding that righty guitar upside down...makes me wonder...? (A fellow lefty.)
Where is your store...I want to buy from you?
We are in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
lets be real, mexican made guitars severely lack the quality if you cant tell the difference you probably suck at guitar, and none of fenders quality comes anywhere near that of companies like suhr or tom anderson , not even close.
Yea, I'll pass...
I am in guitar buying mode and have made offers on used guitars. Most people are still asking too much. Example a 2014 Gibson sg standard for $1700 when you can buy a new one for $2000.
👍👍👍
I'm still waiting for the guitar apocalypse here in the UK. I had thought prices would have started to fall by now, but they haven't. eBay prices are high, and the FB marketplace is full of cheap, no-name guitars and the occasional overpriced brand-name guitar. Reverb is a non-event here. There are sometimes bargains to be had at dealers but they are far and few between. The situation seems to have worsened over the past 12 months. Retail prices have also increased quite substantially. It really makes no sense.
My Fender guitars are made in Mexico. I'm glad they are.
Wow! That sounds EXACTLY like what the Beatles used on Its all too much! You have a really great channel btw👍
I "exercise" all of the pots on my vintage pioneer receivers before powering them up especially when they have been out of rotation for awhile. Those little flip switches can be a nightmare also!
just get a vintage korg dtr2000 1u rackmount tuner and be done with it. One of the best tuners out there.
I noticed that my b string is always sharp when I use a clip tuner and in the ballpark with a pedal tuner. I use my pedal when I set intonation after a string change but I let the new strings settle in a couple of days before I do that. So yeah, I'd have to agree that putting a quality pedal tuner on your board is the best route.
I love used guitars. Bought some real gems for cheap. Havent sold any of em.
No phones on stage! Totally unprofessional. Get a damn guitar tuner!
I never can understand the concept of tuning by eye. It's like choosing colour by ear.
I use the TC Electronics PolyTune. Big display. But it's not as accurate as the pedal.
Yea I sold a PRS core Custom 22 pretty easy for my money back (bought it used) ...but sub 1.5k new retail guitars....seems like those are definitely hard to sell unless you sell unless you decide you wanna lose your shirt on it. Especially if you bought new, even if you bought at the inflated used prices you might be at a loss. If you don't have to sell, don't sell yet.
That Les paul special in the back tho........wow!
If it isn't USB C. I pass on it. Zoom are you listening?
Love your analysis. Subscribed!
you can just use harmonics
Quick question for you. Looking for the best beginner acoustic guitar on a 500.00 budget. What do you recommend. Prefer used. Thanks
Snark 👍
Thanks for being open about the reality of running a small, retail guitar store. I sell vintage saxophones online (eBay/Reverb) and have thought of doing a retail location at one point. However, I can run it out of the house with very low overhead (inventory/shipping) and low risk. Thanks for the videos!
Isn't the problem with using the phone that it picks up sound and usually there is a lot of that in a gig. A clip-on tuner uses the vibrations it receives from direct contact, not a microphone. Seems like less likely to get interference.
4:20 also my pet peeve, smh.
Peterson has manufactured tuners since 1948, a fact which is beautiful to me.
Tuning is way overrated. Just wail on that 💩
SNARK tuners simply don’t work very well. They’re just not precise enough. I use a BOSS TU-3 because it’s more accurate and it cuts off the guitar signal to my amplifier. It lets me quickly tune up between songs in seconds. Plus a SNARK wrecks the look of the guitar!
watching a performer read lyrics from a phone or iPad onstage...poor...learn the song, learn the lyrics. Can't remember the lyrics or the chords?...you don't know the song...woodshed until you can.
If you don't understand a market don't try to speculate on it.
I have used my Boss pedal tuner for decades on gigs. The only problem I have ever run into is playing an outside gig on a sunny day....can't see the LED's on the tuner.
Some folks hate on squier but I have an 11 year old bullet strat that just stays in tune 😂 no matter what even with ancient strings on it. The only upgrade is a bridge hot rail and a 500k pot and .22 cap.
I'm not buying any tuner with a rechargeable battery, it's just gonna die eventually. I like the Korg SH-CS100, it's super accurate and takes a AA battery, not one of those lame coin cells. I do have 2 older snarks with removable batteries but I found they're not as accurate as I'd like.
You’re spot on when it comes to phones. Don’t want to seen/ use them when it comes to tuning
