You need to go to Missoula, MT. The hobo spiders in Missoula 100% cause necrosis. They are very aggressive in the fall, charge you, climb on your foot and attack. Never seen spiders this aggressive anywhere else. I’ve had over a dozen friends/friends of friends who had necrosis after being bit. Some even required surgery. Not all of them saw the spider who bit them, but some did. Everyone in Missoula knows what hobos look like, they’re in every house. Not sure if brown recluse live in Missoula, I didn’t see one brown recluse in almost 10yr. For a non expert I’m pretty good at identifying spiders. It is very easy to tell difference between hobos and b. recluse. To have that amount of bite horror stories be from b. recluse would be very irregular. Considering their population in Missoula, even more so. All hobo spiders must not be created equal. Not sure if it’s their diet or a different sub species. But until this Arachnologist in California has studied hobo spiders in Missoula he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. If I’m wrong, then tell me a kind of spider that is very fast, aggressive, venom that causes necrosis and looks like a hobo? I would really like to know. Because it seems the entire science community accepts that they’re not aggressive or venomous. My real life experiences know this is 100% bs. Maybe it’s only Missoula hobo spiders, idk. But if you give me an email I could probably get at least a few people to share their stories with you or whoever is spreading this pseudo science. Do better research. ✌️🤦🏻‍♂️

You're wrong about hobo spiders not causing large deep wounds, especially in those sensitive to their bite. I've had them myself and my neighbor had a huge wound on his stomach from one. Many people think they are brown recluse spiders, but that species is not native to Washington State.

How long does it take to spray after you plant

I've know 3 people that got bit by them, they had bad reactions. Half dollar sized areas where their skin looked like it was rotting. They said the bites hurt quite a bit and needed some antibiotics. Came with a day or two of headaches.

We call them giant house spiders in Ireland. I've read that their fangs cannot fully pierce skin in the way that widow spiders' can. I've also read that their eyes only detect light and that they cannot see properly like we do.

We call those types of spiders false widows. They're invasive in Ireland. Although the ones we get here, while not lethal, can be harmful in terms of damage to flesh and allergic reactions. I think the false widows are native to the Canary Islands.

That hobo spider looks very much like what we call the giant house spider here in Ireland. The giant house spider is the largest native species in Ireland by legspan. Females have larger bodies but males have larger legspan, up to 3½ inches. They can get larger in continental Europe. We have zebra jumping spiders here too. They're cute. False widows are an invasive species that are spreading. One of my favourite species are our garden spiders. They're orb weavers that range from a matt orange to dark brown in colour and have a white cross marking on their abdomen.

I save all sorts of spiders and don’t have a phobia. Healthy appreciation? Some I even find cute. Buuut… first notable experience with these guys was last year about this time (august to September) when apparently they go in search of females. Well now… live in CO and my daughter and I caught a couple big guys in a jar to figure out what the heck they were and then release. Each day we caught more and more. Until our capture number was past 60 (and no they’re not all in the same jar). I have never sprayed for bugs. Ever. But finally had to. Caught over 10 this year so far. Might spray again. Too much is too much. I’m down the rabbit hole again of how are they getting in? I have caulked and foamed and there still must be something I’m missing.

Hello, I have an (unwanted) anaerobic situation & not sure how to best deal with it. About 4 months ago, I put seaweed in a big bucket of water and it broke down enough to use in the garden as fertilizer. But then I decided to "amp it up" and added some alfalfa pellets, shovel full of composted horse manure, & about a pint of fish emulsion fertilizer. Then I locked to bucket. Well it's amped for sure! When I opened the bucket, it was literally churning and stank like you won't believe. Now I'm afraid it will explode if I keep it locked, but my neighbors will likely have a fit in I left it open. Is there a way to diffuse this process? Thanks

Greetings from Richmond, Indiana where I am just starting to learn how to take control of my 18 acres. I've lived most of my life in Los Angeles, but left there in 2021 and purchased this property. I achieved real success with California native plants between 2015 and 2021! Here, first I had to learn a whole new ecology - midwest vs a Mediterranean type climate. Now, I see I have to clear much honeysuckle, privet, burning bush, callory pear, miscanthus, multiflora rose, autumn olive, and garlic mustard. That's just what I have discovered so far. I have a plan of action and am learning all I can about this wondrous new estate. I ordered 130 seedlings to be delivered this month, all natives, 13 each of 10 species selected for wildlife value. What an adventure. And even though you are in Montana, I enjoyed the content and found it to be spot-on and learned from it as well. Thanks, job well-done.

I live in the Puget Sound area of Washington and all I ever heard of hobo spiders is they were the 3rd most toxic to humans after the brown recluse and black widow. However, their toxicity level was so low that no one had ever suffered any major effects from their bite. I assume that is correct. Third most toxic doesn't have to mean dangerous, you know.
