Dog Training Vlog: Week 2 With Uma
In this rescue dog training vlog, we document week 2 of the dog training journey of our recently adopted Doberman puppy. In this week, we go over introducing her to other dogs, her progress with her loose leash walking skills, an update on her reactivity, dog socialization, and more!

Introducing Uma to our pack!
Uma is a 5 month old Doberman who was surrendered to us by a young couple, and new parents, who got in over their head with a high energy breed puppy. They did the best thing they could, putting her needs first, and found someone who could appropriately provide for her needs when they realized that they couldn't.
Uma is 5 months old, has little to no engagement with people (doesn't look to them for help or guidance) but loves dogs. She is insecure and lacking confidence, meaning she wants to play but easily gets overwhelmed or becomes rude in her play style. A lack of socialization, and structured training has left her anxious in certain settings as well as reactive to cars, people and other animals when on leash. At this age, it's not as big of a deal but in only a few more months these can become very scary, and very dangerous behaviors. As such, she also pulls a lot on leash and is always zigzagging to be as hyper vigilant of her surroundings as possible. Uma has also displayed submissive urination when approached too suddenly or before going outside when made to wait and preform obedience prior.
Over the next few months, please feel free to follow Uma's progress while in our care. We will be documenting her progress and posting weekly update videos as well, to really break down her progress and our plan to help her.

Discover the Game-Changing Role of PLAY in Dog and Puppy Training
It eliminates so much stress to know that my dog is not going to charge out an open door or gate. We have alot of family members who don't knock and are lax about shutting doors.
That's the goal! Eliminate stress for everyone, including the dog. 🐶❤️
Toby needs work on this! He thinks everyone is there just for him and unfortunately, they oblige! 😐
Haha I get it. When people try to pet him, I'd say something like, "Not right now; he's training." If the dog is calm enough, they can help by having short conversation with you, but that's up to his comfort level.
Excellent video and explanation! ❤ Thank you, sharing!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment! I'm glad you were able to get something out of it. If you haven't already done so, I'd really like it if you could click the "SUBSCRIBE" button. If you're unfamiliar with that term, it's just a free service UA-cam offers to let you keep up-to-date with future videos, including future updates of Uma! 🐶❤️
Thanks for watching! These are (hopefully) for entertainment, but they're also for education in #dogtraining. Were you able to learn anything from it? Did you enjoy it? How can I improve? Thanks again! 🐶❤️
_Love_ these kinds of journeys! There's nothing quite like watching a fearful dog come out of their shell and learn to trust... ♥
Yes! It's the best! 🐶❤️
Thanks for watching! In future videos, we'll be outlining the things we're teaching her, behavior tips, and her overall development with us. Please "like" and "subscribe" to follow her journey with us! 🐶❤️
Thank you. Must teach my puppy to stay longer🐾💕
Thank YOU for taking the time to watch and comment! I have a number of longer videos that you might find helpful, too. 🐶💞
Thanks for watching this video on front door manners! To see how to teach this, please check out our channel! 🐶❤️
I’ve seen other stay videos but yours I really resonate with. I like how you explain how you want canine to focus on you. I like your explanations of why your doing what your doing☺️🐾
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. ❤️💕
❤👍🏾Great
Thank you! ❤️💕
My dog jumps up, pulls on my pants when walking him on leash in back yard continuously. I took him on first walk in streets recently and thankfully he didn’t do that. He was pulling though. I understand the streets was new environments so he was in an explorer state but I would like him to walk without jumping , pulling on pants with teeth and the sometime growls while on leash in yard. It may be play for him. Just subscribed to your channel and like the fact that you have a good amount of leash training videos that I resonate with. Much Joy . Thanks☺️🐾✨
Thank you. Will follow you walking tips with my new puppy🐾✨👍🏾
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found it helpful! ❤️💕
Thank you for the detailed video. You answered my question relating to the benefits of slip leash. Just got a new boxer puppy and recently placed an order for a slip leash. Just came across your channel and will view more of your videos. This video was fantastical☺️👍🏾🐾✨

Thanks for watching! Do you use a crate, playpen, or bedroom for your puppy confinement? And if you use something else, tell me about it! ❤️💕
Thanks
You are very welcome! I hope you found it helpful! We have a number of more detailed #dogtraining videos on our channel, if you'd like to check them out. Thanks again for watching! ❤️💕
My dog loves going in to his crate. It's the starting in part he doesn't like. He'll lay in it all day if the door is open. It's when I shut the door that the problems begin. 😢
Thanks for watching! I would recommend practicing the exercises in the video link I'm posting in this comment (it's a more detailed crate training video). That'll get him used to being in there with the door closed and with you exiting the room. Please let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for watching! How many dogs do you have? Do you have a video idea about living in a multi dog household you'd like to see?
Thank you so much, I really enjoy your clear explanations and demos. Just watched the how to use a slip leash too but it disappeared before I could comment, so thanks for both, and now off to watch with and without treats walking :)
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I'm glad you found them helpful. ❤️💕
Thanks for watching! How does your dog do on the treadmill? Which dog treadmill do you like best? #dogtreadmill #dogpacer
I got a half Belgian malinois puppy almost a month ago now (she’s 3 months old) and as she gets older I want to do a lot of scent work with her for tracking grouse and to keep her busy during the winter (it gets very cold here and often will be too cold for much outdoor exercise) so this is very helpful! Thank you!
That's great! Your pup is lucky to have you! Thanks for watching and commenting. Keep up the great work! ❤️💕
Thanks for watching! This is an intermediate step after you've already taught the #placecommand. If you haven't taught that yet, check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/dI2wUhNkHyg/v-deo.htmlsi=u6n8HK2jg-1BXlkr
Thanks for watching! How does your dog do at the vet? Did you learn anything from this video?
Yes, Chirag Patel's bucket game - all 3 parts and pedicure please by Susan Garrett. Also got my fearful Dobe (100lbs and not fat) used to a hound of the Baskervilles muzzle to help build his confidence. I had to get incredibly good at reading his body language as it was so subtle even for me. Susan Garrett's TEMP video and Kikopup's calming signals video helped a lot. Any kind of Nose Work helps build their confidence too. Several courses and if interested in competing, Baebae's training - she's actually a judge. Sara Ondrako has an awesome video on how to make a snuffle mat with a pocket. My one Dobe will leave his lunch in his bowl. He has to have it in his snuffle mat. Hope that helps.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Great tips! I'm actually really curious about that one you mentioned about turning a pocket into a snuffle mat. I'll have to look that up. Thanks! ❤️💕
@@SomeMinorDogTraining yes, great craft even the kids can help with. Great fundraiser for shelters too. The only thing if you have a dog that likes to eat fabric, you'll want to supervise and pick up the mat once everything is gone. My guys don't bother it after the treats are gone. I also tie a double knot which prevents them from falling apart in the wash. Hound Hugger also has Free diy snuffle balls too. Hope that helps.
This is awesome! Out of the mouths of babes - this is easy! Love that there was no need for treats too. This is one of the few places I don't use treats as the eventual reward is going through the door - it's a self rewarding behavior. Will fwd to my students as this shows even kids can prevent their dog from rushing through a doorway. I usually have them practice on an inside door first - bathroom, bedroom, etc. before attempting an outside door - and of course not when they really have to eliminate. Will incorporate the line as well. Thank you for this!
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch, and for your kind words! I love the idea of using bathroom doors first. It makes it safe, even if the dog rushes forward. Personally, I'll also make time to simply stand at the front door and just watch everything outside. This removes the novelty of the outside world for the dog, so they don't feel the need to get outside so badly (they've seen the outside so much that it's not a big deal anymore).
Thanks for watching! Do you have a nervous or fearful dog? Do you practice informed consent? Keep in mind that this is not something that's necessary for all dogs. Caprica is a very special case. But pay attention to their body language, and listen to what they're trying to tell you. ❤️💕
Thanks for watching! How is your journey going with your behavioral training?
N.B.: Would it be possible to address unwanted jumping at people and (older) puppy biting? Thanks again!
Great suggestion! I'll definitely do that. Thanks, and thanks for watching! ❤️💕
Thank you very much and please keep up the good work! Greetings from Europe!

any suggestions as to how to desensitize a dog to windshield wipers? He freaks out when they have to be on.
Is it only when you're in the car, or is it any time, even when he's outside the car?
Very useful method and well demonstrated. Works on my border collie. Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! I'm glad you and your puppy were able to get something out of it. ❤️💕
Thanks for watching! How is your dog doing with the recall? Is your dog treat motivated?
Just found your channel, super content so subscribed in an instant. Recently took over walking a dog that basically had zero training. Recall work is a must, he loves treats but belly is a bit upset so will use this method. Feeling grateful for these wholesome tips, thanks for sharing knowledge!
