😎
Good stuff!
Thanks!
I'm sure u've realised that your voiceover is much quieter compared to your voice when you're on camera.
I didn't actually, I do all the editing and levels through headphones but I'll keep this in mind for the next videos and test it on some other devices first before uploading 😎
2:33 to skip to the MK1
If i come across the mk1 loom ill give you a shout
❤ was good when it was running mate . Hopefully you can sort it
Again massive thanks for donating the MK1 to me, it's been a car I've always wanted. I'm well pleased. 🙌 I've made quite a bit of progress on it already getting it ready for winter and trying to make it waterproof, been putting all my spare time into it the last couple of weeks so there should be an update video next week. If you happen to find the MK1 loom that would be massively appreciated, but no worries if you can't find it though.
No drama for picking it up bro ! 👌🏻👌🏻 what are mates for
Picking up a range of old Volkswagens clearly 😉😂 Thanks again boss!
So from my faded memory the convertible wasn't a "mk1 golf" but a mk1 shape golf made around the same time as the mk2-3.... Looks like a proper mess of parts but a good project car !
Thank you, I've got plenty of bits to put back together for now, the next step is making it water tight for winter, hopefully I've got most of those bits. From what I know the golf cabrio come around in 1979/80 and finished production around 1992/94 at the end of the MK2 era as they never made a MK2 cabrio just a facelift of the MK1. Think the MK3 was released around 1992/93 Explains why the cabrio is a lot cheaper than a full MK1. Crazy how long the MK1 style has lasted for, I think it's South Africa that has the MK1 golf citi untill something crazy like 2009/2010!
@@VintageVibesAutomotive shows how much i remember in my fuzzy grey matter ! Good luck to you, looking forward to the update vids
@@jamescrook99 Thank you, I'm working on the next video now, so hopefully next week I can release it fingers crossed 🤞
Perfect Tuesday viewing
Thank you 🙌❤️
Defo restore it mate
@@gunman1973 Hopefully soon the next big step is welding the floor and inner sills

Does the alternator pulley clicking issue go away once warm? My car has a clicking noise from that area, and I am suspecting that's the culrpit.
It would settle down after a couple of minutes of running, it would also come back if you revved it all of a sudden for a short while or turning at really low speeds.
@@VintageVibesAutomotive hmm interesting, mine seems to go away at 1200-1500 rpm then come back again before going away completely once warmed up
@@superbelly427 I would try the change if the belt first, the correct belt you need is pinned top comment, it cost me £10 posted. Other than that it could be the alternator belt pulley, you'll be able to see it clicking and moving excessively if it's the pulley/ tensioner bracket. As a side note my 16v is non AC if you did buy that belt first
Useful tip for tempermental window regulators at 5:26, thanks.
You're welcome!
Nice example of a 16v, nice guide!
Thanks, Glad it was helpful!
Needs to be saved! Good luck with the project!
Thank you, the rust is the main bit for me to sort now.
2:30 🤮
Crusty!
bought * Good video!
Whoops, I missed that one! All sorted, thanks 😎
Just a small bit of rust then? 😂
Just a smidge 🤏
The phrase "I bought from eBay" for cars is normally a wallet killer ! 😂
Sight unseen from eBay as well 🤢😂 I guess everyone stayed well clear of it seeing as I was the only one that bid on the auction
Great video! Ooh yes, the Cables of the cranksensor suffer bad 😂 Consumption wise,, 6.3 6.5 l/100km when doing 120-130km/h 👍🏻
Thank you 🙌 Yes those crank sensors can be a right bugger! When I brought it as a non runner, the first new crank sensor didn't work at all which was fitted when I brought it, the second crank sensor cut the car out at 88 degrees oil temperature the third crank sensor was the most expensive febi bilstein sensor which finally worked properly, so even the new parts are temperamental
That was awesome mate brought back lots of memories
Thanks Chris, good to hear from you 🙌
Nice guide this, useful info 👍
Thank you 🙏
😀
😀
The correct alternator belt for anyone wondering you would need would be a 6PK1033 belt, you can buy and fit shorter but will cause the alternator pulley to click. The smaller belt will also run the water pump pulley to spin the wrong way. My ABF is non AC but both belts can fit. Although long is correct and has no issues.
That is a real informative video on all the things to looks out for on the mk3 !! Yours if 100% one of the nicer ones tho pal I love that car ! 👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks man 🙏❤️
😂
Mmmm delicious
A very special car brother! Never sell it. Do your dad proud and make it the greatest car in the world. Hes watching you everyday ❤
I'm sure he is ❤️ it's something I don't think I can ever part with. Many adventures was had in that car 😎
😂
That was dramatic 😂😂
Very 💥
A car can last forever if you want it to. My New Beetle is special to me as I took my best friend, my dog, to be put to sleep. It's the last time he rode in my car. I'll never get rid and do whatever welding or mechanical work necessary to keep it.
Class man 👌
My 98 1.8t is on its 3rd pair of wings in my 15 year ownership 😂
@@rickydub6950 I always thought it was the foam on the inner wheel aches, I've had 5 mk4s overtime and they all had rusty front wings, the rest of the car has no rust at all.
Loved the Mk5 i had too mate. Your Dad would be proud of you, memories last forever even if Golf's dont 🤦🏻♂️
Absolutely! So many memories in that old Mk5, it's like I'm still going on adventures with my old man knocking around in that old golf
Mk5's are the best Golf ever made. Don't ever sell this gem bro.
Love it ❤my dad now lives in a care home with dementia and i have added his base spec 06 105 tdi to my fleet... wife doesn't want it here permanently but it will be 😂 was his from 2010... rust is creeping in but you have reinforced my motivation.. it makes owl noises too... thought it was a seized actuator.. will investigate the exhaust system 1st. Got mk2, 3 & 4 here too... look forward to more vids. Cheers!
You've got to keep that car, sounds like it's more than just a golf. Mine actually makes the owl noise still but it's a lot quieter. The turbo has been whistly and sounded like a police siren when he brought it all those years ago but never got worse. Some say it's the turbo failing but it's always been fine and boosted well. I thought the exhaust problem was it finally letting go. As it progressively got louder. Definitely keep that Mk5 and don't let go of it. My dad's car was a base spec as well but it's been overhauled with highline features
@VintageVibesAutomotive I had thoughts of a wee map, slight lowering, turbo from a 130/150 & biggest brakes I can get behind the original 15"steelies & trims lol cheers 🍻
@@rickydub6950they can handle a remap very well, my dad remapped it a week after he brought it and it still has the original engine, turbo and gearbox. The PD engines handle a remap well. The pd130/150 turbo would be a nice shout! If you get the updated turbo make sure you get the pd150 head bolts as they can get head lift from the boost
Why doesn't your wife want it there if she knows how much it means to you
@@rjj00 we have 6 cars on the driveway and 2 in storage 🙈😂
Never sell it great car. How did it go through 4 clutches in 220k miles!? Most clutches could last 220k
Sorry 288k but still 4 is a lot
Mk5 clutches and flywheel are weak .
@@riflegreen3069 I've had one and my brothers both had them, they all made it past 160k miles on original. BXE engine codes
The 1st OEM clutch lasted till 80k miles, the DMF started rattling, the second one lasted till 220k miles, the third clutch was faulty and only lasted 5k miles and the 4th clutch which it's on now has covered up untill 288,500 miles. But the Dual mass flywheels in TDI engines are pretty weak and end up juddering. The solid mass flywheels are more reliable but cause loads of vibrations
I had a dual mass flywheels fail on my mk5, while they were replacing it they "might as well do the clutch"....
I love a MK5. Theyre better looking than the mk 6,7
Lovely looking cars, especially with the GT/GTi front end
Iv got exactly the same situation with a 56 mk5 golf tdi 170ps had it from new with photos of my son in baby seat and a few months ago he had a drive of it on private land its mad
That's awesome that is, at that point it becomes more than just a car.
do video tags!!
never sell it mate
keep it up
Maybe one more time ! 😅
I think it's going to be just fine 😂
