Tibetan Lives

Founded in 1729, the Derge Parkhang printing press is one of the most important institutions in Tibetan culture. The temple contains a very large number of Tibetan woodblocks carved with sutras. It is still active today. It is located in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

Shuabazi is an annual summer camp held in July and August on the grasslands in Litang. This is the time when Tibetan families come together to enjoy themselves after the long cold months, with dancing, singing, story-telling and horse-racing. Shuabazi events are held throughout Tibetan parts of Sichuan.

Ganzi Nimo nunnery is a relatively recently established nunnery with 40-50 nuns. The nuns pray inside, and outside, in the orchard, debate Buddhist texts.
