Presidents Day Weekend 2020 at the Bittercreek Western RR

Scenes from my day spent during the annual Presidents Day Run on the Bittercreek Western Railroad. I opted not to add an underlying audio soundtrack so you can enjoy the sounds of these awesome machines. If only I could upload the aroma of the coal-fired steamers, I would.

I1's on the L&N EK Division
Переглядів 4,3 тис.14 років тому
I have no real backstory to explain how a pair of Pennsy I1sa decapods (all retired by the end of 1957; all but one scrapped), shiny and new looking with their original (1917) banshee whistles shrieking, would show up on the L&N Eastern Kentucky Division in 1971. But, here they are, providing through running "eye candy" during a charity event held by Gary Siegel and his wife Marilyn.

    Advise playing this @ 1.5x speed to avoid a headache (and because someone must have shot this in PAL, or messed with the original output)

    Your friend's leaning on the horn an awful lot, especially since you don't have any grade crossings on your layout.

    @rhbeadlejr Yep, they all are. Over 1100 Dwarf Alberta Spruce, all hand planted, hand pruned and watered with a hose. Gary had a drip irrigation system in his plans. Over this past weekend, he enlisted one of the group member's wives to trim trees. Over the 2 days I think she was able to complete a half dozen. You'll hear her invite our one of out junior members to join her in this video.

    @Yohanan6009 - Gary has even managed to replicate the humidity at times, when the AC stops working. Even had a nice rain shower over Kyles Ford once, when the overhead ductwork failed. Added to the weathering of the ground quite nicely, but I wouldn't recommend trying that as a normal technique. I'll pass your comments along to Gary, J.D. Thanks! ~ Bob

    Gorgeous scenery Gary, some of the best proportioned I have ever seen on any layout. As a youngster, I used to spend summers back east and traveled by train extensively; the only thing missing was the humidity. J.D. Huey

    That's a nice layout, one of the best I have seen. Only problem is the noise, I think you have the horn going way too many times, not really needed in my opinion. Otherwise, great.

    Most of the locomotives on the roster are not sound-equipped, although the UBoats on Train 81 and the GP7 you see working Dent in this video are. You might hear a couple others working in the background as well. Gary is known in particular for his trees; if you're in the area in January, there will be a clinic.

  • @rhbeadlejr
    @rhbeadlejr 16 років тому

    A very nice looking layout. What a load of trees. Good looking backdrops and realistic scenes. And, a good job with the video although, I found the background voices and heads popping into view distracting. Are your engines sound equipped?

    Gary's layout has been featured on the cover of MRR (April 1996) and RMC (May 2008). There is also a group on Yahoo for the operators of this layout.
