Hi, Good luck with yours! Mine are holding up pretty good. I inspect them sometimes and there are no cracks or anything only scratches on it from normal use. If I'd remake it I probably would use a slower hardening epoxy resin just to make the layering & bagging less stressful :)

​@@baehhmagic Oh, you mean these: 10:04. I cut some sticks from the leftover material (where it was the thickest) and then glued them on with a bit of epoxy. I left some gaps so the blade would stay flexible. Maybe I should have used more, smaller sticks, or just glued on the rubber side rails all the way (some people do that).

Hi, in its original setup with one band, it's fairly accurate up to 3-4 meters. The trigger mechanism is mostly made of plastic parts, but so far, it hasn't failed me. I think it's a good entry-level gun for spearfishing with plenty of possibilities for upgrades as you advance. I converted it to a single roller and added a reel. At that point, it was accurate up to 5 meters, but I had to experiment with finding the right bands and band lengths, as well as the amount of pre-tension. It was a bit heavy and would not float without the shaft. Later, I bought an MVD inverted roller and swapped the two heads, so now this gun is an inverted roller with two pairs of 16mm rubbers, and it works great. With the 75cm version, you can expect it to be less accurate and weaker, but I suppose it's good for reef fishing. And as I said you can alwaysreplace the barrel, the head, shaft and improve it as you need. But I suggest to look around MVD products. I think the handle and trigger mech are way better. I'll be careful :) Actually you made me realize that it looks like I swam through the whole thing underwater and it looks more dangeorus than it is. It's just 5 meters you have to swim under there, otherwise you can resurface anytime ( I just cut out the pitch black part where i just swim on the surface inside the cave)

Hello! fibreglass is cheaper :) Use uv resistant epoxy, or some kind that is used for boats (I got mine from a sailing shop). West system epoxy is used by many but its not the cheapest choice.

@@gergelykonrad1773 I see, but didn´t expect it to be that much of a price difference when selfmade. At what cost did you make your two fins?

epoxy+hardener = 20€ carbon fibre = 20 € fibreglass cloth = 8 € peel ply, breadher cloth = 4 € plexi glass = 10 €

Also good to know when you sandwich fibre glass with carbon fibre. The fibre glass core is more flexible, and stonger BUT HEAVIER than the carbon fibre. So if the fins would break at some point it will break at the lower 3rd part where there is only carbon fibre. If it would break at a point where there is fibre glass (maybe because of a fault or air bubble) then the fibre glass would still keep the fins in one part, only the carbon fibre would break. Hey! Well there's a lot of room for improvement :) I'm still trying out different band setups to find the sweet spot between accuracy and power, but the main issue is the bad balance of the gun. I have a couple ideas how to solve that. I'll upload a video of it for sure :)

@@gergelykonrad1773 akam done soweit mvd Inverter roller testing and the gun was only accurate with 8mm shaft. Thx for the comment ;)

Hi, they feel safe so far, only time will tell... but I made some experiments with sandwiching fibre glass in carbon fibre. Always the carbon breaks first because the fibre glass is stronger and more flexible than the carbon (but heavier). So if it will ever break it will break at the end 1/3 because thats the weekest part, but then I will still have the 2/3 of the blade to come up with in an emergency. I't depends on your weight and how deep you go I guess. I'm 76kg and dive about 20-22m at most and these feel reliable for me. You can make it stronger (and stiffer) by using 300 g / smt materials or more layers, and make sure to get the bubbles out. The best way to remove the bubbles would be to use resin vacuum infusion, but that process is far more complicated.

Hello, when I started out I also had the same question. I asked a friend of mine, who works as a freediving / spearfishing instructor here and even he wasn't entirely sure about the conservation areas or where could I find clear information about it. Locals told me that fishing is a basic right for civilians here, and the Marine Conservation Areas are meant for the fishing companies. What I know is that you CAN NOT spearfish: - at night - with a scuba tank, or if scuba divers are around - at beaches - at wrecks and marinas (even if you freedive to a wreck and have a gun attached to your bouy you are defenetly going to get fined :) ) I follow these rules and I never had any issues. I never fished in Gozo, but others say it's better there than Malta. I'm planning a trip there in May. Please tell me how it went, and especially if you find some good spot, I'll be sure to check it out :). And be careful with the boats!
