December 2006: I was senior executive aide with a then Seattle-based internationally recognized 'Big Bank.' Canlis' Penthouse was the venue for our holiday party, hosting international guests. The Best. Because of the many details I was organizing to ensure a memorable guest experience, I was loaded with related logistics (e.g., town cars, people, last-minute 'are-you-kidding-me' requests, etc.). To ensure our event was successful, Chris Canlls, himself, was my 'Personal Assistant' for the evening. There's more . . . My lodging that evening was at the Fairmont Seattle, which provided car service for corporate accounts (to-and-from). Upon the conclusion of our event, I'd learned my return car service wasn't available. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Canlis offered to personally accompany me in their private car to ensure my safe return. I still have Chris Canlis' personal business card today.
Interesting they show a field "repair" but then void the warranty if you repair a Filson product yourself. The warranty is already a deeply watered down version of the warranty us long term users valued.
I'm cooking this again tonight, for New Year's Eve. Thanks to my Canlis Family of Friends! xoxo
the late blake.... ❤
Is it true your employees get kimchi as part of their employee meal
We watched this session live for fun, but it has had a lasting impact. We are less snobby about cans and boxes of wine, and we do have a Bota Box Sauv Blanc in the back of the fridge now for when you just want a glass when cooking or whatever. Also, Fritos Honey BBQ twists are great with it. :)
I have a twenty year old 466 Medium jacket, it's now tight in the shoulders. Any chance it can be tailored for more room?
Its called "filipino food"you dumbfuck
True story. I was a young man of 27 years back in 1979. Times were tough, I was rather desperate and I was searching for a job so searched the want ads and I applied for a job being a home caretaker for a well to do man and his significant other at a very nice Hunts Point WA, home. I got the job and they discovered I had some cooking skills as well. It happens that they were regular customers at the Canlis restaurant and they had the recipe for the Canlis salad that was given to them by Chris Canlis (they said). Anyway, they taught me to make the salad and they requested it with nearly every dinner 5 days/week served in high sided wooden bowls that they found in Hawaii. I worked for them 1 year and must have made (at least) 200 Canlis salads for them. I got so I could make them blindfolded. The only thing is they did not request nor want the cherry tomatoes or mint. Everything else was the same. Of course I ate plenty of the salad myself and found it was the best salad I had ever had. 40 years later, now an old married man of 69 years, I still make the Canlis salad and enjoy it just as much as the first time I made it. One other tidbit. My boss and his gal took me to the Canlis restaurant as a special treat and I enjoyed it very much and still tell people about it. It was so nice. We were met at the front door by a doorman, valet parked the car, we were waited on by a very attentive waitress and a terrific wine steward who just seemed to know when to refill the glass. The steak, baked potato and salad were first class. Everything was perfect. When we got up to leave the valet had the car ready for us outside the front door, no waiting. It was a terrific and delightful experience that I will never forget. Canlis is first class.
Was great until you brought politics into it... this is what is ruining filson i have filson products hunting with them since i was a kid now it’s catered to lumber sexuals
Buying house wine in Italy was the best experience. My husband and I bought a half-liter at nearly every meal. :D
The shopping list/recipe would be very helpful. Can you please post? Thanks!!!!
What kind of mint...?
cocktail wisdom
A bit of missed opportunity. Can’t say I took much away from this one. It felt more like a conversation about the actually conversation, which we didn’t get to hear about.
This video was delightful. Thank you for filming it; having this to reference was a big reassurance!
Thank you so much! This made it much easier to figure out what I should be doing today!
When in the process / where does the 'black garlic jus' get deployed?
Thank you both! It was like being back in college... That was really fast on the trussing and 'herbing' but I think I got it. Maybe Brian didn't want to dazzle us with his knotsmanship? Dinner is TONIGHT so this post came in the nick of time. And Thank You to Amy for answering my several calls over the past few days!! - Bryan and Janet
Just purchased my first Filson Bag. Love the concept of repairing and restoring great bags. Perhaps in the future, we could see a restoration.
Good job
Would like to check it out if ever up your way.
lol this was great
sippy cup? She is fun!!
Where’s the Romanee Conti? 😁
Turkeys!
We watched twice in a row. Hilarious and useful!
That was hilarious. Thank you for putting together such an incredible Thanksgiving kit and for providing so many belly laughs.
You inspired me to make myself a cocktail (if it can be called that) while I scrubbed dishes and listened to Daniel Tiger songs because my toddler insisted 🤪. I felt like my self respect grew a little bit because I was listening to adults speak. I like that they pointed out that unclassy cocktails can be delicious and preferred at times for their simplicity as I attempted to scrape out some honey from the nastiest sticky plastic Costco bottle and make a “bees knees”. Thank you for your efforts to make us all feel more human during the fall/winter of 2020.
Thank you for giving me tomorrow night's dinner! I love a good pantry special, and this is all pantry (including the Kewpie!)
This was hilarious. Joel was great
