Blue by Joni Mitchell, released in 1971, is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. It is a deeply personal and introspective work that explores themes of love, heartbreak, longing, and self-discovery. Mitchell's songwriting on Blue is both poetic and raw, and her use of minimal instrumentation-mostly just her voice, piano, and guitar-emphasizes the emotional depth of each tr...

Why THRILLER might be the GREATEST album ever!
Theres not a bad song on it and a couple of ballbiters. Its up there. Givin the dog a bone is an Awesome song.
No, it’s not the greatest rock album but it is in the top 10, maybe top 5. I was in high school (secondary school) when this album dropped in 1980. I had just gotten turned onto AC/DC the year before with Highway To Hell. I immediately went to my local record store (remember those?) and scoured the bins for other albums from the band. I bought High Voltage, Powerage, Let There Be Rock, and If You Want Blood…You’ve Got It (one of the top 5 live rock albums of all time). You can imagine my shock when I heard the news about Bon. I had just discovered these guys from down under, had just connected with Ang and Bon, only to be told that half the face of the band was no more. When news later came out that they were finding a replacement and carrying on, my friends and I weren’t exactly expecting a triumphant return but more like a slogging from the bottom back to the top again. Imagine our little minds being blown away when Back in Black was released. It wasn’t Bon but whoever the new guy was could scream as if he had swallowed razor blades and chased them down with Jack Daniel’s. And just like the guy with this channel says, every song was hard rock heaven. Concise, brilliant, no frills, no excess, a showcase in how to write and record hard hitting rock and roll. And you have to understand the context…when this record came out, AC/DC weren’t the icons they are now. They were still very much a fan’s band. Not mainstream yet, not anywhere close. The hardest rocking groups on American radio at the time (in central midwestern America were probably REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent, and Led Zeppelin. Although a new era was dawning at the end of the 70s. Groups like Judas Priest, Rush, and some new upstart named Van Halen were beginning to be played in rotation. Out of these new sounds on the airwaves came AC/DC’s Highway To Hell. New? To us here in the states who hadn’t seen them open for KISS in the previous years, yeah they were new…only having just cracked the American market. So with this in mind you can see how truly devastating Bon’s passing was and just how truly triumphant their return with Brian was. Suddenly they hadn’t just come back, they refined their sound, announced their return, redefined hard rock (people called this heavy metal back then) and had recorded one of the most successful rock albums of all time, forever and ever, Amen. Now think about it: you lose your lead singer, the face of the band, at the height of your career. After years of touring all over the world, grinding it out against all odds, opening for every band out there, record, tour, write, record, tour, etc….for 6 years of that nonstop….you FINALLY claw your way to the top and record your breakthrough album. Suddenly you are on the map. The years of grueling road work has paid off. Highway to Hell sells like hot cakes. People can’t get enough of you. Everyone is waiting for the record that’s gonna come next. All you have to do is record it. Then the voice of the band, the most recognizable person in your group, the key member, the lead singer and probably the best frontman in rock and roll dies. Bon’s death would’ve been a death knell for all other groups. Most wouldn’t have tried to replace him. The ones that did would’ve failed miserably. How do you replace Bon Scott? You don’t. Sadly, he will never be replaced. That’s why the group went with a different sounding singer. (Personally, I favor Bon over Brian). But they don’t just find a new singer, they knocked it outta the park. Home run!! The odds against them doing this was astronomical. Overwhelming. Yet somehow they achieved a miracle. Angus was the key. For a while there, their success rested on his little shoulders. He carried them and all of us fans too. Had it been just Bon and no Angus, the group would’ve ended. It’s that simple. Angus saved the band and took hard rock mainstream. Best hard rock album of all time? In the top ten for sure, possibly even the top five (Van Halen’s first album gets my vote). Best comeback of ANY band, EVER? Absolutely number ONE in that department!
Hi. My word. This is what you call a “comment”. Thank you for sharing it. Not only well written but entertaining and an enjoyable read. I can’t come back at you on anything as it would just be crass and clumsy. So I leave this magnificent piece of work in its original form and thank you once more for this excellent contribution to my channel. All the best. Dave✅✅
Hello, good comments and pretty accurate. BIB is a monster, theres 7 tracks that are absolute killers with the other 3 average fillers although Givin the dog a bone is a fave of mine. AC/DC released the big 3, LTBR, Powerage and Highway during what l call their raw power era. BIB is much more refined and sterile with lots of 3rd guitar overdubs, but it is a killer, every bit as good as Led Zep lV. TNT is an often overlooked album but look at the songs on it, Long way ( the greatest RNR song of all time by anyone lMO) TNT, Livewire, Can l sit next to you girl, High Voltage, Rocker, THE Jack, not my fave, and a rollicking school days by Chuck Berry. They still play probably 4 tracks of this album live regularly. All opinions but its clear we love AC/DC any way we can get them.
@@Powereage Hi there. Thanks for watching and your comments. Some good points made and an interesting read. All the best. Dave✅✅
It may have sold 50+ million copies, but there's no accounting for taste. Maybe 4 really good songs. Let There Be Rock, Powerage, and Highway to Hell are all much, much better albums by a long way. Johnson's voice is atrocious and every album after BiB absolutely sucked even more. Just my opinion and it doesn't count. But neither does anyone else's.
Hi. Music is so subjective but the important thing is that every opinion does matter. If you don’t like something then you are perfectly fine to say so. I admire that. I look forward to featuring one of your suggestions in the near future. All the best. Dave ✅✅
Hard to argue with that. Now go listen to the Grammy nominations in the Rock category. It's trash.
Hi there. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I’ve not seen the nominations as it’s not something I follow to be honest. Thanks again. Dave✅✅
Zeppelin 4 isn't even their best. It's Physical Graffiti or Zep 2. Or maybe even 3.
@@ChrisBarry-h5h Hi. Thanks for watching. It’s an interesting viewpoint no doubt I will be revisiting this one with alternative suggestions in the near future. Thanks again. All the best. Dave ✅✅
Just a suggestion but maybe add some audio to the spiral visual. It's hard to explain but I was expecting something there. It'd add a little umph to your intro's. It's my first time watching one of your videos but in my head I can almost hear an intro in the style of Huey Lewis if that makes sense 😅
Hi there Good suggestion. Leave it with me.
Love the video mate, definitely gonna check out some more of your content! keep it up man youre a star

You’ve nailed that in one!
There's Hendrix.....and then there's everybody else. Period.
Hi. You kinda summed that up in one. Thanks for watching. All the best. Dave✅✅
Yes that's right. I m french, 65 year old now and always fan of music. This is one of the first album that i buy and all in this album is so so special, music, lyrics, songs, sound, very special kind of magic atmosphere who's traveling the time until today whith intact power. For me the best album of rock music whith electric ladyland and exile on main street in other category. Best powerful and haunted album of the time.

I'm 74. For about 50 + of those years I thought the #2 was their finest. The shame. Can't undo that, just have to live with it. Thank jobs for the educational power of the internet, I stand corrected. But I insist; As smoochies go, "Thank you" from 2 is much better than "Stairway..."
@@steinhytland2593 Hi there. Thanks for watching. There’s nothing wrong with 2 either. Just a superb band. All the best. Dave✅✅

I agree.
Ever since it first came out I've considered Blue the greatest folk album of all time. Simply a masterpiece, first cut to last. Everything -- melodies, lyrics, performance -- is flawless. In particular, "A Case of You" is what I'd call a perfect song.
@@DRF-rg5qy Hi there. You’ve left a really good comment and is one that I agree with. The comments have all been positive so it seems we’re all on the same page. Thank you for watching this and look forward to seeing more of your posts. All the best. Dave✅✅
Oh, come on.
Hi there. Are you disagreeing with the statement? I would be interested to know a bit more regarding this as most of the comments are very positive so far. All the best. Dave✅✅
The Battle of Evermore is an amazing song and I think the best thing about it is Sandy Denny's haunting and majestic voice. As for When the Levee Breaks, after Kashmir I think it is their finest song.
Hi there. Thanks for your comment. There are some amazing tracks and Battle of Evermore is a truly amazing example of that. Thanks for watching. All the best. Dave✅✅
I love that this guy is not a young person who doesn't know what they're talking about and most importantly didn't grow up listening to this album and others. If you're a young person you would want a guy like monsieur here, to break down a record as this.
@@cherylfugate7517 Hi there. Thank you for watching my video and for your kind words. It’s nice to have your support. All the best. Dave✅✅
Blue is her best. She is one of the finest performing artists of all time
Hi. Thank you for watching the video and I 100% agree with you. A moody, and bold artiste that can send shivers down your spine. Just amazing. Thanks again. All the best. Dave ✅✅
Definitely the album that underscored my life. It is amazing.
Hi. Thanks for watching. A true mega artist that is seemingly loved by so many across so many genres. Now that is a skill as well as the ability to write music that is just someone’s life. That is exactly what happened in your case. Thanks for sharing. All the best. Dave✅
My favourite Joni Mitchell is Hejira. I'd love to hear your take on it.
Hi there. Thanks for watching this one and I will add your choice to my list and get that done for you in the coming weeks. I really appreciate you spending some time on my channel. Take care. Dave✅✅
@@TheAlbumReviewchannel Thanks for your reply and I look forward to your video on Hejira.
I’ve at one time been obsessed with each of her albums.
Yes, one of the best albums ever I was going to play Hendrix are you experienced, but I think that I will give Pet sounds a spin. Also Surfs up, maybe give a talk about it some time. Good work, I've subscribed.
Hi Richard. Thanks for the sub. I love Jimi Hendrix so may do that. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks for watching. Dave✅✅
I love electric warrior but also love Marc’s album ‘tanx’ it’s soo good and soo much soul

Thank you Alan. It is a truly amazing piece of work from a simply outstanding artiste. All the best. Dave
U2 didn’t write it. Charlatans.
Hi Matty. My error. Thank you for the update. All the best. Dave✅✅
One of the best albums ever. I love the last song " Rip Off ". Not a bad track on it.
@@AlanJones-r5q Hi Alan. Thanks for your company. A great example of one of the greatest albums of all time. Take care. Dave✅✅
Now you ain't gonna get a complaint from me about how great this album is. I've been in love with it since I was 4 years old and my mother would play it. It was one of only three albums I could listen to for 6 months following 9/11. You did make one mistake however. It was his first wife Elizabeth, that he'd divorced in 1982. Uptown Girl is about Christie Brinkley and falling in love with her.
Hi there. Great comment here and yes what a rookie mistake to make. He is such a consummate artist and one that is difficult to pigeon hole as he always seemed to reinvent himself. Glad you enjoyed it. If I were doing a follow up album review, which one would you suggest? Thanks for watching. Take care. Dave✅
Love your voice and video
Hi there. That’s very kind of you. Glad you are enjoying it
The Slider was my favourite .
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. Not really heard The Slider so will be guided by your opinion. Cheers for watching. Dave✅✅
My fave album of all time ✨️
It’s so brilliant
bmack??? u mean black?
Good spot. I’ve sorted it now. Thanks
I like the album, but it might be one of the most overrated albums of all time. It isn't even the best album that came out in 87. Appetite for Destruction came out the same year. That is a better album.
Hi Christopher. Good comment here and Appetite is an album I have not listened to for donkeys years. I will need to check it out again. I agree that The Joshua Tree felt it was like everywhere that year. Thanks for watching. All the best. Dave✅✅
The only band that mattered🎸
Hi David. An extremely decent band who represented the punk mover with pride. Thanks for watching. All the best. Dave✅✅
Eat to the Beat and their debut Blondie are my personal favorites! Love them all though!
I’d forgotten about Eat to the Beat. Another classic! Thanks for watching. Dave✅✅
A couple of notes: Mick Jones, not Joe Strummer, sang lead on Train In Vain. And as I understand it, the song was added to London Calling after the track listing was posted, making it a "hidden track". Other than that, many thanks for the review. The Clash are my favorite band of all time. And though the album's been written or talked about several times over the years, I don't get tired of experiencing it again. I still think it's a special album, though Andy Edwards ( and probably a bunch of others) would disagree. Sacred cows are always ripe for a good trashing, and London Calling is no exception.
Hi there. Appreciate the corrections, I try to get my stuff right but do make errors so cheers for that. What would be another decent album of theirs to do a review on as I’m not that familiar with their stuff. Thanks for watching. Dave✅✅

The reason it can't be called one of the greatest albums is "Maxwells Silver Hammer" "Octopus's Garden" bring down the quality.
Hi there. Thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you up to a point but say that the rest of the album is strong enough to cover for both these tracks? Maybe. Have a great day. All the best. Dave✅✅
Am down with the octopus‘s garden hate like it has nice harmonies and guitar
Got a record player for Christmas, this was the first record I played! I always listened to the songs on Spotify but I’m so glad I could hear the true album, the blending of songs is so amazing, especially the transition from golden slumbers to carry that weight.
