"Sustainable Coatings by Rational Design" (SusCoRD) is a "Prosperity Partnership" between EPSRC/AkzoNobel that provides ~£7.5m cash and in-kind contributions over 6 years to fund research on corrosion protective organic coatings at the Universities of Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool.
The programme aims to develop new scientific understanding on "how paints work" and to develop predictive models for performance coatings. This will accelerate the development of new coating systems that use sustainable materials by reducing testing time and predicting performance using computational simulation.
