Fantastic and clear explanation of how to service the gears. However, I'm having difficulties in removing the rubber gasket. Any advice on doing this? Thanks
I've had to do this job twice recently, and imo, the gasket was the only difficult bit. Like in this video, you'll want to use a small, flat head screwdriver, if you pause at the 30second mark, you will see the gasket has a lip.. leverage the screwdriver against that lip to get it out (I don't know how to better describe that, hope it helps..) Also something else to consider... in this video, he puts the gasket back in upside down, be sure NOT to do this, I assume it will be a nightmare to get back out without damaging it. Good luck with it!
Great vid! Thanks for showing almost everything you need to know in a minute and a half, instead of 30 minutes of, "Hey guys... so today Im going to uh... I'm going to show you... uh this 8-speed...." :-D

Can't see clearly which side of the bearing must go upwards.... :/.
the upward side goes upward
Can one actually do this maintenance with the motor still attached to the bike frame? It would be sooooo much easier to handle the greasing part, but I figure the screws etc. might not come off easily..
Did you use a degreasers to clean that?
01:58 NOOOOOOOOO...now you've pushed dirty grease and solvent down to the nylon gear and bearing. 03:31 apply grease to the big gear before installing.
Done many a bafang, no different, but what i would like to know can you change that hideous display for something more discreet, this would be good especially with the tourque sensor on paper.
Man you skipped a TON of steps. Fail
Very good and detailed video of re greasing. But if you ask me, you're definitely use way too many grease on the granny gear.
Best one of these Bafang re-grease videos I have seen. Well done!
Very nice you video!! Just one question, where you buy the spare part for your motor Bafang? Thanks
Useful and I need to do this, but the two bearing nutted rings using long nosed pliers looks a bit on the agricultural side to me. Is that the best and only way? Type of grease and method of application with bare fingers suggests this is not a 'pro' method or approach. Is that fair comment?
no, it's not a fair comment.
Good video, but it needs to finish with the no-turn washers and cable install.
Fucck the music
mobil 28 ist just the WRONG grease for anything other than super high temperature bearings. you need a tacky, yet fluid grease for gears, nobody cares about the million degrees temperature resistance of this mobil 28. your motor will stop working lightyears before that grease even remotely gets warm. but the gears will definitely wear out because it doesn't stick to the metal and has just about the worst fluidity. get some high tack grease (e.g. calcium complex synthetic longlife grease), add some viscous PAO oil (best is 220-320W) and if you wish, some dry super lubricant like PTFE or WS2. I don't understand why so many people keep recommending mobil 28 for bafang motors. the lubrication effect is gone after less than 1000km whereas a proper grease with high fluidity basically doesn't require any regreasing for 10'000s of km therafter.
Can you recommend a ready-to-use grease?
@@amach4991 many people use the John Deere Corn Head grease, it has a high fluidity, however it's mineral oil based and therefore may degrade the nylon gear over time. Otherwise Lucas' Marine grease would be a good choice, especially since it has superior corrosion protection. Feel free to blend it with synthetic oil of the highest viscosity you can get.
@@amach4991 actually the stock black moly grease is not so terrible, definitely better than mobil 28, but the white grease on the nylon gear is really terrible and separates rather quickly
what chain do you need for this motor? 1/2 "x 3/32"???
I hear Molykote pg 75 is the best. Mobil 28 seems to be the most common in videos.
I use Mobil Mobilith SHC 100. It's also compatible with the nylon pinion gear.
This is BBS01 or BBS02?
Men in sheds, cool!
4k carrera,right...
How often do you do that?
Great info, really useful, thank you👍
Grease red or black guys?
Well I'm confused because the motor does look like geared motors but the controller is the same as Direct Drive motors
Hello sir, thank you for what you offer to serve others. This is a virtuous act. Please I want you to help me if you can. My bike has become very heavy. Where is the problem in your eyes, mechanical or electrical?
Can this be done whilst the motor is still on the bike?
yes
This is not gear motor its hub motor
What is the torque setting for the two rings on the other side of the bottom bracket shaft? Torque setting = Knock it round with a hammer and a screwdriver
That grease is designed for nylon.. He could have used any grease for those gears and should have opened it up and used that Mobile 28 on the nylon gear.. They have very little white lithium grease on them from the factory.
Great video, thanks for posting. How do you connect the battery coulometer? I want to see volts and I think that is why you installed it. Too bad the Tongsheng display shows percentage. Thanks
Hi how many washers did you put between the spider adapter and the motor? Thanks!
Very good
What is the best type of grease?
what liquid did you used for cleaning the gear
Some petrol
Hi, I want to know, what liquid did you use at time 1:40 , also, can I use the same liquid for internal components as well (example: All other bearing and stuffs)? if this is not the best, what type of liquid are better and safe to clean? Thanks in advance!!
Water and dish soap. I use Palmolive, it’s tough on grease and easy on hands…
Does anyone know where to buy this
Best Buy for the money
Very nice! I always wondered how to pull out the shaft in BBS02. I would lube the gears while they are out to avoid applying the grease on the walls.
Would you recommend esoulbike?
Why no gloves?
Why ?
General care about the health and well being of your skin and body. Why not?
@@mac3824 I always remember the gloves after I get grease on my hands.
you didn't prove that by changing the grease the noise is gone.
Because there was no noise for me
it's better to lubricate that shaft while you have it in your hand. Good video, thanks !
I love how you talk dirty!

Great video I think theres a new version 'TSDZ2B', it includes a torque sensor instead of the speed one, so much better! Hoping to purchase soon and either build it myself or find someone to pay to build it for me
Soon I will have the opportunity to test the TSDZ2B
Can't get that gasket out for the life of me been trying hours
hook the lip on the outside edge with a screw driver
Brilliantly explained 👌
I noticed you skipped the actual installation of The Snap Ring From Hell. What is it with Shimano for refusing to add 2 little nubs so a standard Lock Ring Pliar could be used to install these damn pieces of crap they use?
Starts a "how to" video halfway through the process...
This is not an installation procedure for installing a hub in a wheel, because it is done exactly the same as with a regular hub. In the video, I show how to assemble the rack and connect the pin properly
@@justvideo9206 yeah cause everyone knows how to install a regular hub
Show us from the very start like how you put the Shimano inside the wheel.
Hahah... yeah... that's the whole point I guess.
@@jfjoubertquebec just search for any other build your wheel video.
I now have a Lekkie motor cover that has this tiny ‘grease port’ where do I get a grease gun or zerk that small?????
Just buy some sort of glue syringe to insert the grease with ?
