On the two-year anniversary of our son’s passing, at Micah Philip Anderson’s grave site, I read Scripture.
What size is this? Is that a 16 inch viola?
Yes.
Great review ! Thank you!!
when do u usually go downtown to evangelize? im not catholic, i live around downtown gr and i evangelize downtown with a group. ive never seen you, would love to talk.
I go out only once a month, but usually not downtown. I'd love to talk with you about evangelizing.
I added those 4 volumes and breviary to my wishlist. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Beautiful backyard. I’ve never seen anyone play without a chin rest. I guess the worst that can happen is the finish comes off from body oils, but it was cheap, who cares, right? I use Essential Elements. It teaches the basics. The basics need to be learned before one attempts moderate to difficult tunes. Not much said about the bow , it’s just as important as the viola. Yep, all of the violin family instruments are very humbling. I’m ten months into violin, and wow, I’m humbled. Good luck!
You didn't see the REST of my back yard--needs improvement! Good for you at ten months in. I'm plunking away, a nice diversion for thirty minutes a day. Yes, at $69.00, I don't worry about the body oils. I just added my workout plan in this Description. Today, I recorded familiar tunes into Audacity, on one track; and on another track I recorded myself saying the note names. This should help me memorize open position, get more comfortable with bowing, and have me playing a handful of tunes by memory. Enjoy the musical journey (in the land of chaos!)
I've been saying her fifteen prayers for decades. Is the breviary in Latin or English or both?
English only.
Good for you. I enjoy listening to you. Deedee is learning as well?
Yep. We enjoy plunking along each day--nice reprieve! :)
Thank you ❤
Hey, Dan!!!!!
That's brilliant, keep at it. ❤️👍🏼 I'm in my 50s and recently started learning fingerstyle guitar. I'm never going to be the next Tommy Emmanuel at my age but I'm loving it and get so much joy out of it.
A better way to learn the Anglican Breviary would be to start with Compline. When that is learned, add another hour. Continue until you learn Matins last. That's the recommended way to start praying the Anglican Breviary. I have the Benedictine Breviary you mentioned. Its nice. But, it does not compare to the Anglican Breviary, in my opinion. However, your audio files is good at demonstrating how not to learn to pray the Anglican Breviary. Not everyone prays all the hours. I still gave your audio a like.
I'll try that. I greatly respect it, and more than the Benedictine one, but I get hung up on all the super-detailed red text (instructions)!
Thanks for sharing Dan and Dee! A great reminder of Micah and our own destination... Gods Glory in Heaven! thx again... cn
May he rest in peace. ❤❤
How much does this guitar weigh? Is it red? The only listing I see on Amazon is sort of an orangey yellow.
This one is red. Gave it to Grandson, so can't weigh it. Very comparable to my Telecaster--not extra heavy or light.
I've been thinking about buying this and the Diurnal. Am I right in thinking you didn't buy it direct from Lancelot Andrewes Press? I've also heard it's a glued, not a sewn binding. How has it held up? Seems strange that a book designed to be used 365 days a year has glued binding.
I bought it direct. It hasn’t held up especially well.
@@dandeeand I was thinking of buying it direct too, along with the added shipping to the UK! I have the Farnborough Abbey Monastic Diurnal and a paperback Matins, but prefer the Coverdale Psalms. I suppose I could just markup and tab the Benedictine Psalms schema in a BCP and just use it as the psalter. Means using an extra book and more flipping about but works out cheaper :) Thanks for your reply.
Amen, good day to you too.
Yes. Today, good is evil, up is down.
I heard this statement in a series named "The Authority" by TANBOOKS and couldn't agree more: Sanctity = Sanity Sin = Insanity As for today, it's insane how much they advertise the sensitive appetites. I myself fell inslave to it since an extremely young age. I recently started to fight back and I'm working on breaking free from this insanity. Every time i google about masturbation and withdrawal effects I find "nothing is wrong", " It's not it but my ANXIETY", "it's not it but my MORALITY", "it's not it but my PERSONAL DNA" ...etc. Thanks God I found the Catholic faith, i read religious books and they help a lot. Unfortunatly my family fell to modern slanders about religion, for them works of fasting , discipline and detachment are fanaticism... I hope in the future to calm my restless heart and mind, and start going to Church.
I like the idea of buying a smaller psalms book that's more portable and pray the way you showed according to hour of the day. 🙂
I especially like this option during ordinary time.
Amazing 🙂
Thanks! Most of these were the words from my son, Micah, that I received about a week after he was killed in a car accident. Before his writing these words (the last few lines of the "song"), a few months before his death, he was delivered from being addicted to alcohol and drugs. He turned to Christ, thanks to a husband and wife street evangelist team.
@@dandeeand Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. It's a very beautiful song. My condolences to you. May his soul rest in peace.
Just ordered this from Blackwell's bookshop online. About $90 dollars including shipping. Excited to get it. I have experience with many of the other versions. The 4 volume liturgy of the hours, at least 4 abbreviated versions of that set too. An abbreviated version of the traditional pre Vatican 2 Roman Breviary, and 3 different versions of the little office. I'm excited for this one for these reasons: -It's one volume yet complete. I rarely have done more than 2-3 hours per day BUT sometimes i want the option for more. -the elevated language makes it very special and particularly reverent. -price for a complete breviary at perhaps it's lowest point compared to other complete breviaries
Especially if you want to for including your thru-the-years two-year Bible reading, I bet you'll be blessed by praying with it!
@@dandeeand I believe so. I am not-so- patiently waiting for it to arrive. I want this to be the ONE for me. My constant companion hopefully into my old age. Maybe to leave to the kids or grandkids some day. God bless. I liked your video. Also good idea about inserting the prayer for the president
Thanks for sharing with us your wife's prayer books. Also I strongly agree with what you said around minute 9ish , it really does make a difference willing to draw closer to God , adding small sessions of prayer throughout the day. I have only done it for 3 months and never felt quite like it. Edit: By the way , I too have Divine Intimacy , it has really good meditations but the liturgical year is different from the current one.
Given the times we're in, prayer throughout the day seems essential--I suppose it always has been.
Good review! Can you tell me more about that new testament commentary book you showed by the end of the video? I know theres a set of them but I'm not sure what their faithfulnes is , I hear some good deal of works are critical and not very faithful. Thank you
The Baker Academic series I referred to is a bit hit-or-miss. The commentary on Romans, by Scott Hahn is fantastic. I haven't read any yet that I feel are especially unfaithful to orthodoxy.
When you say that this has a 2 year bible plan , do you mean that the other breviaries don't? And if yes , how do they differ? Seeing that the single volume ones are equal in thickness. Thank you God bless
I'm no scholar, but I believe this breviary has one reading through almost the whole Bible in two years. While reading the other breviaries, with far less Scripture in them, I make it a point to read through my Bible at three or four chapters a day (without regard to the Church calendar).
Hi Dan, I got my copy of this breviary a week ago. Been praying Mattins, evensong and the lesser hours as I can when I can. I love having a structured prayer! Also flipping the ribbons is much fun :D
I like your reviews and music taste, very pure and uplifting unlike mainstream music which i stopped listening to. God bless you.
Beautiful indeed! Both music and picture :)
I ordered it, but I don’t understand how to pray it. It doesn’t say what day to read and pray each prayer or what times of day to pray them. I have no way of keeping track of what and when.
I see you collect guitars. I like collecting Rosaries 📿 The Little Office is nice. I love it because it’s a lot easier than The Divine Office. Great video. God Bless you.
I watched your video on the Little Office of Baltimore and you mentioned your son. I listened to your story about him and noticed all the family home videos you posted of him. I'm so sorry. God bless you. I am going to go pay special attention to my family now. Thank you.
Does it have prayers for the saints and the virgin Mary ?
Yes--lots!
Thanks for the review. Well done!
Nice. I wish I had one of those. Perhaps this just isn't the right time for me.
It's sold through Tan Books. Here's a better introduction to it: tanbooks.com/products/the-little-office-of-baltimore-a-traditional-office-for-american-laity/

It would be nice to see the book
Yes, I showed only the outside of it; sorry about that.
Just ordered a copy of this guy. I tried to follow your advice and order off Amazon, but the Amazon listing actually just redirects you back to the seller (it ships from them, not from Amazon) so I hope I won’t run into a similar issue. It’s really something that they packed a full breviary into a book that size.
Thanks for reviewing this. Love this office book. Im Catholic but this diurnal due to being in traditional English is perfect. The Catholic monks at St Michael's Abbey UK have a well known version but includes Latin alongside the English and my Latin is minimal so this beautiful English only edition is all i need.
Thanks for the review. The Anglican Breviary is early modern English. Old English is essentially what the Angle-Saxons spoke when they went to England after the Roman Empire pulled out of Britain. I used to think the same before someone explained it to me. 🙂 I use the Anglican Breviary with the Book of Common Prayer along with the KJV and Apocrypha that the Anglican Catholic Church was publishing, but of late is not available on their website. But, one can still buy the KJV and 1928 BCP separately. I gave up 🙂 on trying to learn the rules of the Breviary. So, I use it for Hymns, readings from Church Fathers, the calendar, the hagiography, and Compline. I use the 1928 BCP for Mattins and Evensong (Vespers). But, don't let my frustration stop you from learning the whole Anglican Breviary.
Thank you, Philip. I too often mine this breviary for its deep spiritual edification, without concerning myself about following the rubrics perfectly! :)
I’m taking a real good look at this - I’m currently praying with the little office of Baltimore, but I might be ready to move up soon after getting a good feel for that. Thanks for the helpful review.
Thanks! I'm no Benedictine monk; but happy to hear my humble experience might be helpful.
Just to let you know, the Anglican Breviary is not from the Ordinariate. It’s a private printing that has been printed for several decades by high Anglican clergy and laity. However, it is all exactly the same as the pre-55 Roman Breviary translated into English. It’s nothing to worry about unless *exact* approval matters to you.
Thank you for the information.
I have a copy of this which I got in the early 1970’s. A friend of mine and I tried our hardest to use it for a period of six months or so. It is SO COMPLEX that we could never master it. It reminded me of archbishop Cranmer’s introduction to the first book of common prayer in which he stated that one spent more time reading the rubrics (directions) than actually praying the office. It is all prayer book English (1549) and translated in the same from the Roman Latin office. It’s beautiful. But::: good luck if you try to use it.
Beautiful duet performed by Dan and his son, Nathanael.
Excellent informational teaching! Thank you for sharing this rich instructional video. cn
Awe so sweet Uncle Dan!!!
That was for Adalynn. Not rehearsed enough! Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your testimony. What a tremendous grace to receive those handwritten cards with Mika's testimony. You are so right ... evangelizing takes great trust. We rarely accompany someone all the way from the street to RCIA. Instead, we are blessed with the honor (and responsibility) to meet people where they are and, by God's grace, help them to see God's love and plan for them and move a bit closer. The story of the couple who are "the real deal" is so encouraging!! I pray that I and other SPSE evangelists can be "the real deal" to those we encounter each day on the street and in our daily lives. You never know how your words and actions will impact someone. Please God, may I be a faithful witness to your goodness!!
Amazing testimony. Praying for you all!
Beautiful and from the heart ❤️
OK, please help me out here: exactly what is it that you are trying to show us?
This was super interesting to listen to! I came to listen to what was going to be said on Cultural Relativism. Thank you for uploading your lecture!
