SERGEI RACHMANINOFF – Étude-Tableau in E-Flat Minor, Op. 39, No.5
The epic, tumultuous Étude in E-Flat Minor from Op. 39 opens with a heroic melody trumpeted out over a backdrop of thick chords.
Sergei Rachmaninoff wrote two sets of Études-Tableaux (Picture Studies) for the piano, producing a total of seventeen showpieces that captured his tremendous technical ability, immense tonal range, and stunning capacity for coloring of sound. As the title reveals, Rachmaninoff conceived of these works not only as studies expanding the boundaries of piano writing, but as sonic portraits of visual imagery. He did not specify, however, what each study was meant to portray, preferring to let the music stimulate the imagination of performers and listeners.

New York Music Venues are finally open!! I played this right when the music is back to NYC, on September 18, 2021, at Merkin Hall. My solo recital at 15. Hope you like it. Ständchen, hauntingly beautiful with deepest sorrow. A nighttime serenade of one lover to another, over a piano accompaniment that imitates a guitar. The hauntingly beautiful melody repeats twice in the original, over the inv...

New York Music Venues are finally open!! September 18, 2021, at Merkin Hall. This is my gift back to the music, my solo recital at age 15. Schubert could be tragic, grandioso, heaven and earthshattering sorrow the same time. This transcription is taken from the play Faust, Goethe's magnum opus. Gretchen, a young village girl who has fallen for the title character ( a middle-aged professor who m...

New York Music Venues are finally open!! I played my solo recital when the music is back to NYC, on September 18, 2021, at Merkin Hall, at age 15. This is for my teachers, from the bottom of my heart.. Erlkönig is part of my recital program that day. Erlkönig is such an extraordinarily tragical, heart-shattering, and beautiful piece. Schubert sings so soulfully and Liszt only makes it challengi...

I arrived at Moscow, Russia on Dec. 21st, 2019. Every morning before sunrise, I took the subway to the rehearsals with the orchestra until the concert day of Dec. 25, 2019. Rachmaninoff wrote a full orchestra concerto, one of the most beautiful and challenging pieces (busy and gorgeous notes)!! Hats off to Moscow Symphony Orchestra! Such a short time, yet beautiful played, gorgeous, deep, and i...

London King’s Cross Station, Emily (13) plays Brahms Paganini Variations, April 14, 2019. We were visiting the Harry Potter store, and getting on and off the subway at King’s Cross Station. Then I saw this piano! I played some of the Brahms variations. I have to say this is not the best piano I ever touched. The keys are tight, and I used so much of my body and arm strength to play it! :) It is...

Non non clame un peu avec le presto les phrases et les notes ne pas ecouter😢
I love Rachmaninoff and come back to this performance every once in a while for its sheer protean, oceanic, slightly detuned brilliance.
So, are we filming the pianist or the clothing store?
I saw this and was like: who choses such a hard piece to play in public? She's probably playing it at quarter tempo or something and girl, honestly, respect This was amazing to listen to
What an example! At the age of 60+, I can play some Rachmaninov music, if I get a grand piano, if I am in a proper mood, and If I m not disturbed, if there is no noise, if, and if….. Hats off !
Extraordinary Miss.Emily!
Makes you think twice about overlooking at a person in t-shirt, shorts and slippers.
Great performance!
Thank you, happy you like it.
That Rachmaninov was a crazilly men :v
This was raced WAY too fast. But then again she is a Child.
No its not. If you had the score, you would've known that.
That's a lot of tension. It was a passionate performance, but I'm concerned for the sustainability and scalability of her technique.
Thank you for your care
Yes, tension, tension, tension. All you look for is tension. That’s all that matters to audience is tension. Maybe you should relax more.
Is she homeless?
УМНИЦА!!!
Каша,грязь!😅
Ну и ну!Потрясающе!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏
Thank you!
Bravo!!!❤
Thank you!!
Классно играет , на память ! 👍
Thank you! 😊
Замечательно, маленькая артистка с большим талантом ! ⚘⚘⚘
Thank you! Glad you like it
Мимо нот!😅😅😅😅
Левая нога неспокойная,корпус жутко зажат.
Почему в метро и на станциях играют только это произведение Рахманинова?😊
This is one of my favorites. Yearning joined with wistfulness… A truly wonderful performance. Are you familiar with R’s Prelude, op. 32 no. 12? It’s another favorite that makes a fine encore. It would be a superb addition to your channel.
Jarrod Radich version top notch well done
Thank you so much!! I am happy you enjoy it! It is such an emotional piece, imaging the ships coming to shore… spectacular ..
@@emily-janeluo166 just trying to imagine how u got all this coordination and speed skill. I got channel myself playing piano, study it 12 years, but can't co op hoe people develop such a coordination and speed simultaneously
I was there! Played the same piano!
Wow.. Why did I feel time travel and space travel the same time? Time changes but also stays. Memories never left us, so is music.
@@emily-janeluo166 I meant I have been there and played the same piano at a different time
Jeez you were 12 when you played this? Sheesh. Would be lovely to hear a random MM no. 4 while walking around…
of course she's Asian! 😂
I love coming back here every now and then lol. It’s an awesome performance
Thank you Ola! It is only because Rachmaninoff’s composition at times feels like from another world.. dark or lyrical, out of the world. Glad you had fun listening !!!
Lol casually takes of sunglasses
:)
This would be better if you played it with a good piano, but you still did well.
Thank you!
She did good job!
Amazing!
It’s really hard
Try playing something people can enjoy and leave the technique for the examination room.
That’s insulting to people. People enjoy more things than you might think.
great rendering, you manage to take good control on this difficult piece; explicit rhythm as well. keep going!
Thank you! Indeed a complicated piece, by the virtuoso Brahms. He did an incredible job in expressing the technical difficulties and emotional demands for this piece. But that is the soul of the music, isn’t it?
Absolutely stunning execution of this beautiful etude!
Thank you! Rachmaninoff’s Tableau Etudes are indeed beautiful! One can hear the colors, the range of gorgeous tones, and the sorrow in the heaven like mood and singing.
@@emily-janeluo166 I love the scale of this etude in particular, it really makes you feel like the world is ending
@@OctoPlaysPiano true!
Stupendous performance, sounds like a very intricate complicated piece, she mastered it brilliantly
Thank you!!! ☺️ happy you enjoyed it
Thats easy
Not too bad. The left hand is a bit heavy. You should 'throw it away.' Peace
What temperament! Internal fervor and passion, 12 or not, overnight flight or not. I sure hope you are pursuing this as your career. Looking forward to hearing some more, somewhere, some time. Thank you for posting.
Thank you!! Temperament, yes! Isn’t it one of the beautiful way to connect with people? Music transcends, when plays from within..
The piano was awful, it's a shame, you played so brilliantly
Thank you Tyler!
Thank you Tyler! Playing out the tone is probably the soul of the piece.
It’s not even that bad. Grand pianos maintained every week are the exception, not the norm.
sad that if you played easy pop there would be a bigger crowd.
True, sadly classical music is not much the trend any more. But they are indeed the most beautiful of human expressions.
@@emily-janeluo166 well thanks for keeping it alive and inspiring others (:
Excellent playing!
Thank you!!! I enjoy this piece very much. The first time I heard it, I know I want to play it. I was mesmerized, as if in another world. Out of worldly. Beautiful.
@@emily-janeluo166 agreed, this piece is something else 🥹 I can’t get enough of Rachmaninov (or Liszt.)
How old are you?
I was 11 at the time. Happy you enjoy it. It is such an emotional piece to imagine the spectacular ships coming to shore

Most gifted pianist I know!!! Incredibly beautiful! I aspire to be at your level some day in the far future!
Thank you so much!! I am so happy you like my music! You will! Music is meant to be the most beautiful most soulful in the world.
Best pianist!
Perfect! The next Yuja Wang in the making in my opinion.
Schubert's songs are exquisite, soul shattering! They are composed in such a substantial beautiful way. The singing is sublime with so much sorrow and colors. Thank you so much Aaron!!
Amazing!!! You play with the unyielding ferocity that this piece requires. Even in the more relaxed sections, there is an anticipation of what is to come next. After hearing this recording once, it has already become my favorite. Thanks!
Schubert sings, extraordinarily, with saddest and most intense tone! Thank you so much!!
