Live Incomer Tests at a 3 phase DB - AM2, AM2s, AM2e, 2391 Inspection and Testing Course
This video explains in detail, the requirements for carrying out live electrical testing at the incoming supply of a 3 phase distribution board. This is very useful for apprentice electricians about to take AM2, AM2s, AM2e end point assessments. Also for career CPD for electricians, and for electricians undertaking C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing Course.

    Hi, is it a fail if you put a 13 amp fuse in. We was given two 13 Amos and one 3 amp fuse. And no specification.

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies 3 місяці тому

      Typically a heating system would need the fuse connection unit (FCU) to be fitted with a 3 Amp fuse. FCU’s come with a 13 Amp fuse as standard

    Hi very helpful video! I have my am2 coming up and just wanted to know at what stage do I carry out the phase rotation test at the main switch? The motor and commando are fine as they can be done with everything closed up and on but from what I've seen the test of the main supply seems to come after RCD and functional but by that stage you would have the board cover back on?

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies 3 місяці тому

      My understanding is that the phase sequence test is only carried out at the motor terminals as a functional test.

    Hi nice vid but I noticed that the highest reading is PEFC 950.3 this one should be doubled and recorded not the PSCC am I right? THANKS

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies 6 місяців тому

      Hi … When testing between Line and Neutral (PSCC), the voltage potential is 230V .. we double this to allow for the PSCC between Line conductors as these would have a potential of 400V. The maximum potential to earth (PEFC) is 230 so therefore is not doubled. You only double the highest PSCC value.

    How did you know where on former the 2nd mark had to go to bend?

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies 3 місяці тому

      All measurements when forming conduit, should progress from one end. The conduit is always placed in the former with the “measured end” under the stock. Then each mark should line up on the former at the “point of bend” which is were the conduit and former separate prior to bending. Some people do mark the formers, but this mark is unreliable as it alters depending on which hole you place the stock on. The exception to this is where the mark on the conduit is for the “back of bend”. Then you would follow the instructions as shown in the video.

    helpful but surely that Zdb your say is Ze because the is the 3 phase dno supply? is zdb would be at 2nd or 3nd distribution circuit ? ASKING

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies Рік тому

      Hi … If the board is at the origin of supply - then Zdb and Ze would be the same. Ze recorded on certificate and Zdb recorded on schedule of test results. If there is a sub main between the origin and the board under test .. then Zdb is measured at board with earth disconnected - and Ze from origin recorded on the certificate.

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies Рік тому

      The distribution board at the origin supplying the sub main, would also record this supply’s Zs on on it’s own schedule of test results, taken in the same manner but with the earth connected.

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies Рік тому

      The board in the video is assumed not to be at the origin of supply … Hope this helps 👍🏻

      @@headsup4sparkies right... So like a three phase distribution circuit?

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies Рік тому

      Yes … we call them “Sub-Mains” when we distribute the supplies from DNO to distribution boards… and the circuits from there are “final sub-circuits” supplying current using equipment without further distribution.

      This can be simple - or complex, depending on the variety of methods employed on the route. You can select the most used method on the route / the method with most detrimental effect .. or so on. The inspector should use engineering judgement to decide … this link to IET - Supporting BS7671 Appendix 4 .. might help electrical.theiet.org/media/1617/appendix-4-of-bs-7671.pdf

    Great video but how do you know when doing the 1st and 2nd bends on set where bend starts on former please!?

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies Рік тому

      When the conduit is resting in the former, the bend will be at the point where the conduit and former separate (underneath) … I generally place my little finger underneath to “feel” where that point is - and try to get the mark in the conduit at that point.. However - you don’t have to get it exactly right, as you can simply adjust the depth of the set. To add depth, put a little more in each bend. To decrease the depth, take a little out of each bend. Making sure to adjust the existing bend and NOT putting and additional bend in. Some people attempt to “mark” the former on top at the “point of bend” but you often have to change the position of the “stock” to get the measured conduit mark where you need it - as soon as you do this, the mark on the former will now be in the wrong place. Try not to over think it - bending conduit is more of a knack than an exact science. The ability to manipulate the bends neatly is the main skill. Practice makes perfect 👌🏻

    Fabulous presentation, excellent visuals too !.... If i might just contribute ? In my view, the purpose of the solar hot water system is to reduce the need for energy consumption ! The reason I mention this is because the solar needs to operate independently from the boiler . The D.H.W timer should be programmed to schedule a periodic " top up" of the storage tank to overcome any shortcomings of the solar performance during dull weather, and reduce legionella by bringing the water temperature up to a suitable level. My system for instance, runs twice daily to address water & / or heating, based on the Honeywell programmer settings. I also use an S-Plan too, using my combi boiler to provide heat, triggered by the room / cylinder stats leading eventually to the output of the microswitch in the zone valve(s). My kitchen hot tap still runs from the combi directly though ! It has worked a treat for about 6 years and i find the boiler hardly needs to run between May and end of September due output of the 8 square meters of thermal solar panels on our roof. The boiler is still timed to come on but the cylinder stat is usually open by that time so no heat is required. Winter time is another story ... but the boiler still only needs to heat lukewarm water already warmed in the bottom of the cylinder. I often wish i had a second tank in summertime as it often shuts the pump off and stagnates until somebody takes a midday shower. A "destrat" pump and a few controls help to maximise efficiency. Brill animation ... Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you very much for your contribution… this particular system is aimed at the AM2 requirements .. You are clearly experienced with these systems. From my own research, the only thing I can be sure of is that there is no such thing as a “typical” system.

    where you had the running coupler and lock ring can you not just measure say half of the coupler so that when you tighten up the running coupler with the end you wont have any tread showing ?

    • @headsup4sparkies
      @headsup4sparkies 2 роки тому

      I’m afraid not .. the running coupler needs to run from one piece onto the next piece. Therefore it will always leave some thread behind it. The way it’s shown leaves half the thread on the existing piece, and puts half the thread on the new piece. Therefore leaving half the thread exposed on the back of the existing piece, with both ends electrically (earthing) and mechanically secure.
