    Hi Justin, thank you for your hard work you put into your videos. This one made me to setup your exact setup by going all step. And it works! Thank you for that. May I ask how your speedtest results are higher than on my setup? I usually get 9mbps for download when accessing remotely via wireguard while I get 100 mbps for downloading when accessing directly to my router at home. Maybe I have missed something. Hope you can help with a great tip.

    • @justinreviewsandrepairs5246
      @justinreviewsandrepairs5246 3 години тому

      Your speeds will be limited to your slowest connection. 100mbps is pretty slow, so I assume you have cable? What is your Upload speed without VPN? 10mbps? Getting Fiber Optic Internet for both sides will increase your speeds. If your Internet is fast then you'll start to be limited by the router, the Opal is old and will get about 10mbps whereas the Beryl AX or Slate AX can go faster.

      @@justinreviewsandrepairs5246Just 2 more questions! Thank you so much for replying to my comments. I am planning to work from Saudi Arabia, I want the fastest option to work from Saudi Arabia. I currently have a virgin fibre router at home in the UK. I don’t really care about how fast the internet is at home in the uk as long as my family can still connect to the Virgin WiFi router which is fast. For me to work from Saudi Arabia whilst masking my IP, would I need to connect my Flint 2 to my Virgin router and then use my Slate AX to connect to my router in Saudi Arabia ? And Is wireguard the fastest vpn?

      Your speeds will be limited to your slowest Internet connection, but if you have fast Internet on both sides then you may be limited by the router itself. The old Opal will get about 10mbps whereas the Slate AX can go much higher.

    • @justinreviewsandrepairs5246

      I believe it works with IPv6, but the DDNS might default to IPv4. Try putting in the IPv6 address instead of the DDNS address to test CGNAT. They may be blocked by their ISP on IPv6 as well. For now they might want to try TailScale but the server has to be run on a computer or you need to perform command line commands to set the Exit Node (Advanced setup)

      Thank you for explanation! So if I use residential IP setting on the router, the IP(Residential IP)is definitely different from IP created by just using Windscribe application?

    • @Tributo11

      So I just want to make sure that IP created by just using Windscribe application (commercial VPN) which creates IP that is not as same as residential IP. Is it right?

    My company has given me the green light to work remotely from anywhere in the world but with a huge wink that this isn’t officially agreed on and more so verbal. All they ask is that whenever I access something with my company provided laptop it looks like I’m in the US. Do I still need to do this 2 travel router setup or can I do a single travel router with a commercial vpn like your last video? I’m not too familiar with setting this all up so I’m watching the two videos to figure this out now. I see another one of your comments say you would recommend the flint 2 over the slate? And if budget is a concern to use the beryl? Does this 2 router setup primarily benefit if I need my ip address to show my home address at all times?

    • @justinreviewsandrepairs5246
      @justinreviewsandrepairs5246 10 днів тому

      Congrats! Which method you use depends on your company and/or your preferences. The two router method works with any company while the commercial VPN method may not work with every company due to their security policies blocking commercial VPN Providers. If your company allows commercial VPNs the setup is easier and they provide VPN Servers across the country which could provide lower latency and better speed than your home server. You can start with 1 router and a VPN Service to see if your company allows it, and if not, you can get the second router.

      The Flint 2 is the fastest option and the Beryl AX is the slowest option (but it is actually still very fast for the price). The description has a list of routers you can choose based on your budget.

    • @justinreviewsandrepairs5246
      @justinreviewsandrepairs5246 13 днів тому

      Slate AX and instead of the Opal get the Beryl AX. The VPN is running on the router itself which creates essentially a virtual cable back to your home so you can use your work device as if you are home. That means you can still use your work VPN on your work device.

      It is unfortunately still in Beta. TailScale is also in Beta but at least one person was able to set it up manually. The easiest option right now is to use TailScale on a computer that stays home to be your exit node then you can use TailScale on the Travel Router to have a similar setup as WireGuard ®️ without Port Forwarding.

    • @justinreviewsandrepairs5246
      @justinreviewsandrepairs5246 16 днів тому

      If you have Xfinity your router is likely conflicting with the default WireGuard ®️ configuration. So please use UDP (Not TCP or Both) for your Port Forwarding rule and follow this video: ua-cam.com/video/UTZ-_zxIozQ/v-deo.html

  • @SpunAngel
    @SpunAngel 16 днів тому

    Thanks Justin your videos! It looks like for your work remote set up you recommend using the Slate AX router along with a GL.iNet Opal Router. In this videos comments though you recommend using the Slate AX with the GL.iNet Beryl AX instead of the Opal. Another guy on UA-cam who makes similar content/how to videos recommends using the Slate AX travel router with GL.iNet Flint 2 router. And another guy on UA-cam recommends using 2 Slate AX routers; he says the Slate AX offers faster wireguard speeds than the Beryl. 1 thing is clear - you all recommend the GL.iNet Slate AX router as the 1 to travel with. But which is the best 1 to have at home? The 4 options you 3 guys recommend are a 2nd GL.iNet Slate AX or GL.iNet Opal or GL.iNet Beryl AX or GL.iNet Flint 2. The router modem currently at home is the Xfinity Gateway XB8 (for Xfinity Comcast internet)... What router would be best to use at home with XB8?

    • @justinreviewsandrepairs5246
      @justinreviewsandrepairs5246 16 днів тому

      This video is more than a year old so as new routers come out the best option changes. Currently the Flint 2 would be the fastest option but if your budget is lower then the Beryl AX is an excellent ratio of price and performance. A full list is in the description. Let me know if you have any questions or run into any issues.

      If you can't access the portal from your phone then the hotel may have given you an invalid access code. In some hotels you can find an Ethernet cable going to the TV and/or an Ethernet port on the TV which you could plug into the WAN port of the router.

      Thanks for the response and hope you can help me out with my situation. So, I’m in a country where there’s VPN blockers in place such as DPI, including wiregaurd, openVPN and just regular VPN like Surfshark and nordvpn. The only one that seemed to work and bypassed all these is expressVPN via OpenVPN config in my router. That said I can’t do the site to site connection like I want. Do you have a solution for site to site connection that bypasses these blocks? Only thing that came to mind was connect my current router to expressVPN then connect another travel router to that VPN router and then do the site to site connection that way but think it will be extremely slow and not 100% it will work. I know this is a lot but you’ve been very helpful so far and hope you have a solution for my situation.

    • @justinreviewsandrepairs5246
      @justinreviewsandrepairs5246 5 днів тому

      Yes, in suppressive countries that block VPNs you will typically have to use the government approved VPN and then tunnel through. They constantly change and block things so you may have to change your tactics often. I am curious if buying a VPS in that country would allow you to tunnel traffic without Express VPN but it won't be an easy setup.
