An old soldier.
I can get there- but I’m not sure I can stay there.
Serene music as a guy blows his horse's head off.
Why is it in Spanish?

Best scene in a great movie
Reynolds doesn't get enough credit in the final cut of the film. He saved the Union's collective ass by showing up when he did.
The hugging part might be true, but Chamberlain was not at the stone wall as depicted. He was on Big round Top during the final battle.
This is really interesting, because while Stuart looks like an epic dumbass in this scene, Lee is actually wrong about his orders here: Stuart was following them, and if Lee‘s intention was for Stuart to screen the ANV on the campaign, then he gave the wrong orders. This all goes back to crossing the Potomac in the rear of the Union Army, which always carried the risk (if not the inevitability) that Stuart gets cut off from the ANV, with the foreseeable consequence that Lee would be fighting blind. And yet, Lee approved the proposal (it was Stuart‘s idea, mind), even though all of this was largely predictable at the time they set off. Yes, both Lee and Stuart had plausible reasons for thinking this was a good idea, but no matter what it was meant to accomplish and how useful that was, it always came at the cost of possibly losing Stuart‘s force as a screen for their main army. Lee either underestimated the need for this function in the first place, OR he sacrificed it by trying to have his cake and eat it too. Either way, this debacle is largely on him, although Stuart also shares the blame since it was his plan.
Lee was indeed trying to have his cake and eat it too. He was still reeling after losing Jackson and wasn't quite thinking clearly.
Napoleon made same mistake at Waterloo.
One of the Greatest Movies I loved Gettysburg amazing cast
Hard to believe the guy that played Reynolds is the librarian guy in Ghostbusters.
Not to mention the battle of chanlersville.
I stood where he stood today
Why are we watching Spanish sub titles???
@@heatheravant4679 I'm spanish speaker
@@alexandersamsonov406 sorry but we are talking about the United States civil war. Not the Spanish civil war. English please.
A pity that Thomas Chamberlain became an alcoholic and died at age 55. Joshua Chamberlain, his older brother, the college professor, became governor of Maine and died aged 85.
It is a shame… however we don’t fully understand the things he saw and suffered through.
what are the things he saw and suffered?
And I damn all gentleman. Spoken as an Irishman who lived through Anglo Ireland.
Trimble, Gordon, Ewell, A.P. Hill, and Early were a formidable force under Jackson. Jackson kept his orders to his subordinates on a strict need-to-know basis, but when he did give them they were explicit and clear. Under Lee, Jackson had a knack for intuitively sharing Lee's tactical vision and even with vague or discretionary orders, Jackson erred on the side of taking the Offense. Ewell was accustomed to getting much more direct and specific tasking, so taking orders directly from Lee after Jackson's death was something he wasn't accustomed to, given Lee's methods vs the late Jackson's. Ewell's hesitation to take Culp's Hill was probably the most significant failure that lost Gettysburg for the Confederates, but among all of Lee's subordinates Ewell was the only one post-war who acknowledged his own failure. Lee himself took responsibility before his shattered troops after Pickett's Charge, and Stuart never dodged blame for his absence, but he gave his life trying to make up for his own failure before the war's end.
It's incredible to think that Lee's utter defeat and the eventual end of the lost cause came down to Lee adding just two words to his orders to Ewell: "if practicable". The war was lost because he gave a suggestion rather than an order. Womp womp.
always amazed me that they chose a "name" supporting actor like Richard Anderson ("Oscar Goldman" from the SIx Million Dollar Man, among many other roles) tp play Meade and then only featured him for one minute in a dark room with a handful of lines. I was convinced he must have ended up on the cutting room floor during editing and that the extended edition with restored scenes would eventually show us his role in a more developed way (like they did with General Reynolds, whose portrayal took on significant meaning through the restored scenes) -- but NO. This was it. A baffling choice to me.
One of my favorite movies of the 1990s
mine too
Quien muere por la libertad y el amor se torna inmortal
Aún viven.
Probably one of the best casted movies of all time.
"I asked you to help me whip these people..."
Gettysburg was proof that Lee was over-rated as a tactical commander. He was an inspiring, charismatic leader but was no Napolean. Longstreet was far more gifted.
Sgt.Major was a wise man. He spoke the truth. The only equality is the opportunity.
Viva Argentina !!!!!!!!!!!!
Barksdale was one of the politically appointed generals on either side.
Up until Culps Hill was fumbled. Ewell wasnt having a bad campaign
Watching this, I can't help but hear Gilbert Gottfriend screaming, "YOU FOOL!!!"
A very well scripted scene; although I'm sure these sentiments were proven in not so many words. The greatness of Col. Chamberlain and Sgt. Kilrain is extolled by the sword. God Bless the souls lost in these major moments in history. People these days are a bunch of narcissists that don't have a real belief in anything
I'm really happy that they both survived
same here
Idk why but I find it cool that he yells 13th Vermont. The Civil War is cool that each state had it's own regiments and seeing and hearing them in battles is neat.
The regimental system in the British army used to be like that with soldiers being drawn from the same region so they would have a shared local culture, history, traditions and regional pride upon which to build a strong sense esprit de corps.
I’m with Buster on this one.
Fuck...Spanish text spoils the movie, damm it.
Thank you. I've watched this every 4th of July since last century and NEVER knew this extended portion even existed.
Richard Jordan was one of those actors who had the looks of a leading man and the range of a character actor. Watch Captains and the Kings at some point, compare Armistead with Joe Armagh, and you'd swear they were different actors. This was a helluva good role to go out on, and the pity is he didn't live to see how well-received it was.
It’s said that the bullet struck the pommel of his saddle, entering his inner right thigh along with wood fragments and a large bent nail. He removed the saddle nail himself and, mistaking its source, remarked wryly, "They must be hard up for ammunition when they throw such shot as that." And despite the how much pain he was in, he refused to leave the field until the fight was resolved. That’s the mark of a leader.
Neither the Union nor the Confederacy won. The winner was the new Nation.
Que crack era Laudrup..
I love the voice, its the same guy who played Tremble
This scene opening scene of the movie is such bad ass. It gives me chills, just watching it. I’m a Civil War reenactor. I’m gonna be in One next weekend. The battle of pilot knob and I love this stuff.

2:11 good Calvary on both flanks. 🥺
I don't care for his politics, but damn, Martin Sheen is an incredibly gifted actor
Love his politics personally. And that diversity is the beauty of America.
Poor hood
One of the best deleted scenes from any movie ever, other than the already bloated run-time it's a mystery why they didn't keep this scene in.
Definitely important to the battle. They should have kept it
God and Country are two important traditions to many men if not all! He then remembers his boyhood home, reciting the “What a piece of work is man!” speech from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, which includes the line, “[I]n action, how like an angel!” He recalls how his father replied, “Well, boy, if he’s an angel, he’s sure a murderin’ angel.” The young Chamberlain then gave a class speech entitled “Man, the Killer Angel.” Know your History! Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Language can be manipulated to give this novel a whole complete meaning.
This is one great movie of true love
I feel very emotional every time I watch this scene, when Gen. Reynolds is coming and Gen. Buford thanks God with tears in his eyes...
AWESOME SCENE!!!!
