Tracks like this exemplify why Pricey was such an ideal candidate for a new long-term participant in the epic saga of Underworld. It's hard to put into coherent words, but he and Rick (and Karl too) seem to share a very similar 'feel' for the groove, and there's also something about the way they layer and arrange their tracks and especially the way he and UW make use of small, subtle evolutions embedded in repetition. It's no wonder that many people figured that tracks like this, "Shake that Higher" and "Yard Beat" were just yet-to-be-released Underworld tracks when they started showing up in setlists. Thanks for uploading, I love these studio versions. We miss ya Pricey! 🙏💙

I feel like the transitional period between BF and AHDO is vastly unknown and unappreciated… there seems to be a small group of tracks exclusive to it that have still never seen the light of day… I wonder if Darren’s involvement in some of them made them hesitate to reuse them for AHDO? Intriguing stuff! Thanks as always man, you’re the undisputed master of Underworld rarities!

Perhaps the most tragic "loss" in the world of Underworld rarities... I'm secretly mad at them for not including it on the deluxe remaster! xD It would have been much better than "Nifter" , . haha. I always get this one mixed up with "5 Foot", another loss for us OG connoisseurs xD thanks for sharing this, it never gets old.

This one always makes me ponder what it might have become. I swear I've heard something so similar to those cheery little pads _somewhere_ in their discography, but I just can't put my finger on it... maybe something from "Barbara"? Rick has such a refined ear for beautiful synth patches, a massive factor in what makes their music so enthralling and emotionally effective. I dream that he'll release another solo album and fill it with stuff like this! Cheers for sharing man 🙏

This is dope! There’s just one problem, shared with many other Underworld rarities... it’s too bloody short! xD I love the way they recycled “Can You Feel Me”, retaining some of its funk & new wave flair but also clearly establishing the new futurist-urban vibe that dominated this period of their discography. And for so long nobody had the slightest idea of its origins! It was just a cool little chilled-out coda to one of their most foreboding and intense tracks. Rick and Karl are generous gods though, and it was one of many instances of “coming full circle” in their illustrious career - other examples would be “Ramajama”, which was just referred to as “improv” or “King of Snake, pt. 1”, or “Bing Here” not just being a typically silly Rick-style name, or the epic saga of _THAT_ piano loop as it migrated from “Mo Move” to “Ansum” to “Little Speaker”. Aaaanyway, time to pump up the volume and chill xD Thanks for uploading this gem!

It's so crazy that they were already working on this prior to even "A Hundred Days Off" - "Oblivion with Bells" came out almost a decade later! Makes me wonder if it might date back to the Darren Emerson era, and what - if any - influence he might've had on the track. The generous way that Underworld share and perform their works-in-progress has always been one of their most attractive traits - rather than trying to conceal their unfinished work, they let the fans engage with it openly, no doubt observing what the audience responds to and using that as a guide for molding the track. The gradual evolution of "Beautiful Burnout" and "Always Loved a Film" are probably the most conspicuous in their many iterations, with both having at least 5-10 known renditions; that number increases greatly if you include the countless live extemporisations. Thanks for sharing man!

I honestly thought they were just random names devised by fans, haha. I wonder if there are extended versions of the reprises lurking somewhere on one of Rick's 9999 external hard drives, because they do sound quite distinct from the album versions; perhaps one day we'll know the answer when "Oblivion" finally receives the deluxe edition treatment. (plz rikk n carol giv us delucks eddishone 🤑😆) Underworld's multimedia approach is definitely one of their most endearing characteristics; nobody does it better IMHO, and unlike in most other artists' case, it doesn't feel superfluous or lazily tacked-on in Rick & Karl's hands. And as times goes on they get better and better at it; it would be awesome to see them attempt a full-length cinematic work of their own, akin to Daft Punk's "Electroma". Naturally the film would scored by Underworld of course, perhaps accompanied by an orchestra akin to Juno Reactor's exceptional collaboration with Don Davis on "The Matrix: Reloaded". Apologies for the rambling comments haha, I just can't help it when talking about Underworld! 😁 Thanks for sharing this, it's veeeeery difficult to find a legitimate copy nowadays, 🙏

Man, if only they’d included an extra disc for these fantastic versions! Especially that phenomenal version of “Surfboy” with a melody from “Minniappolis” and that majestic, densely-textured “M.E.”. Thanks so much for uploading this man, it’s been my workout music for the past week; hearing an Underworld track you didn’t know about is strangely invigorating 😁🙏💪

Wish this could've been on the main version of the album, wouldve happily traded it for ottavia or iron bones

You wouldn’t think they these two tracks could _ever work together, yet here they are, being collectively awesome. If only they’d play “River of Bass” live more often! Not really the best song for a typical set, but as a cool-down finale or encore it’s ideal.
