There is a brief pause from 13:51-14:56 while I took an important phone call, apologies. I used the 4x time speedup a lot in this mission, so that the video would not be an hour and a half long. Had I not used it this video would have been 80 minutes. Notes: 1) Your wingman is invincible for lore related reasons. 2) Escape pods are friendly craft for some reason, I do not know why. 3) A lot of ...

Another of the easier missions. Work your way towards the Immortal, as most of the fighters come from that direction. The only real threat to the Tantive IV are the bombers, but some will also attack you. They all have missiles; I nearly died because I tried to shoot two down and missed both. Fortunately they did not show my craft upon returning to the hangar; there was not much of it left. Mis...

This is my favourite mission by far. Fast paced intense dogfighting really showcasing the utter dominance of the missile boat. Had I not told my wingman to attack the platform, I would have suffered no losses. You can also hit some nasty trick shots, like A-Wing split at 4:51 or the comebacker at 5:02! How many waves of T/F, T/I, T/B before the Relentless runs out of TIES?
Great content, as always! I need some advice: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
My God I LOVED this game!
So much for flying the X- or A-Wing. Kind of refreshing to see most of your wingmen surviving this... even if you did most of the work whilst ordering them to stay put. XWA has weird A.I. difficulty logic when it comes to having better enemy A.I., weaker friendly A.I..
That's a real long description, and oh boy, the X-Wing formula of sending in extra craft after potshotting an ISD returns. Ah, gun platforms. Makes one actually miss those missile mines. And then there's the Assault Shuttles. Makes one miss the Escort Shuttles. Overall, congratulations on finishing what's basically a taxing chore. Not even the Proving Grounds in previous games are like this.
Broooooo! Idk how this was recommended but hell yeah! Loved this game.
Was one of the best for its' time
Hehe, turning the Corrupter and its fighter complements into Saturday morning cartoons as of this point. 12:54: Wish the X-Wings games actually had subversions on boarding events, like this. At least contemporary titles like FreeSpace have their fair share of failed boarding events. Assuming that's Admiral Gial Ackbar, wish they kept the same voice actor from Return of the Jedi AND the prior X-Wing video game.
It is Ackbar, I agree his voiceover is not what it should have been in this game
Leia's excuse in A New Hope that her vessel is only in a diplomatic mission sure isn't holding water anymore. The running pilot is always there, what are you talking about? Anyways, as an aside, hope you play at least one mission on Christmas Day and show off the Concourse. You'll see a familiar Easter Egg of a sight... either way, there are a lot of Concourse Easter Eggs. Strange, you only have six missiles. 7:40: Wingman down. 11:42: Jink, jink Gorram!!! Hmm, no extra TIEs launching after attacking the Immortal. 949,637 points, unofficially speaking. Next Tour of Duty, then.
Hm, must only be in the A-Wing missions, don't see him in the X-Wing ones or Y-Wing ones. I will show off the concourse on Christmas yes, I think I did last year for the 1998 edition I forget
Easily remember this mission as one that turns from offense to defense because the Bothans were just that focused on succeeding with their Suprosa codebreaking. Umm, no need to take out Timoth 4... Interesting how Kothlis II had to be scuttled afterwards. Dang, they had to leak the truth on the debriefing. Lucky no one in the Garrett ever planned on showing this to the Rebels or the Bothans.
No need to but me want more pointsss my preciousss
Yep, that's Steve Blum as Olin Garn. With your unreal performance in this mission, the game should have went the Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere/Star Fox 64 route of alternate mission branches. Addendum: Dang, you sure aren't like LPhoenix when it comes to the Imperial pilots and escape pods.
Normally I leave them but I calculated that with them I was going to b e close to 19k points, and I was able to use them to get over it just barely.
First time seeing spacesuited folk in the series at this point. Makes one wonder if X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and XWvsTF also had those, ejected pilots, and escape pods, albeit not being able to be targeted.
The EH has Tie Fighter & XvT mods for Escape Pod, Escape Pod Deluxe, Imperial Shuttle Pod Mk. VI, Mole Miner, Zero-G Stormtrooper, Zero-G Utility Worker, Civilian Pilot, MK-90 Droid & Rebel pilot. No Imperial Pilot interestingly enough. No Mods for X-Wing exist in the EH database other than the E-Wing & K-Wing, and the Fly Imperial Fighters & Transports mod.
Glorified Gunships: The Video Game. Gotta like Totally Games' deep cut references on Mesopotamian myth and a certain James Bond foe.
very deep cut
Who even thought of gaining points by not even inspecting a craft? Anyways, seems Boba Fett already acquired Han Solo from Cloud City as of this point. Meantime, I still prefer that Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader turret bonus mission based on Episode IV's TIE Fighter pursuit.
Agreed, this mission feels more like a rail shooter from SWOTR
Just passing by and leaving likes. Ah, skipping the cutscene plot then. (reads description) Yeah, that's a big flaw in XWA and XWvsTF, all right, basically impossible objectives unless modded. X-Wing's basic objectives and TIE Fighter's surprisingly all-passable (even if it means switching secondaries for better effectiveness) tasks just feel more fresh in comparison.
I will still show the cutscenes and cinematics, it's more like speeding up capital ship kills and lulls in the action
Same old same old. Parking under an ISD after you've destroyed the turbolasers and needling it to death. Nothing new.
Interestingly enough there are no hardpoints in this game on capital ships except for the shield generators on an ISD
(reads description) Not really, that's most likely the planet's name up until a few years later when the Shadows of the Empire multimedia project showed up. Remember that this game also has a different pre-Prequels pronunciation of Coruscant. Well, enough of that, here goes the last Assault Gunboat and ion cannon usage mission for this game. The Bothans being entirely sympathetic to the Rebels ain't true. Some cells are actually working for the Empire during this point in time, while others deliberately play their neutrality cards. No need to scan the containers, but I appreciate seeing their contents though.
Always like to see what's inside
(reads description) The Strategy Guide isn't helpful with its advice on the "repair Shuttle Omega 1". 0:09: Gotta hand it to the prisoners to do their best in delaying the inevitable. 0:57: Impatient because Luke Skywalker and Prince Xizor were preoccupying him. 6:38: Can't be helped for completionism. However, the killshot has to come from the player, unlike here.
I got the kill on the 98 version but not this one, the frigate is way harder on this one. Also the ATR doesn't shoot for some reason, not sure if intentional or not
Hand it to the Empire for bringing you back on the T/A, without even an explanation as to why the T/D can't be flown anymore. This Battle is interesting, yet also possibly contradictory with the Shadow of the Empire multimedia project. If one connects this to the lore of X-Wing Alliance's fourth Tour, something's off, but if any are connected with Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, well... ...Personally, though, I prefer the takes for this game and Rogue Leader. Interesting choice, using Heavy Rockets here, but hey, it works! According to the Strategy Guide, at least 1 A-Wing in any single flight should be spared so to delay more of them being pesky arrivals while focusing on the more important X-, Y-, and B-Wings; also, X-Wing Blue has Heavy Rockets, so they are a top priority. The Strategy Guide doesn't mention the CRS Columbia for some reason. Oh, and just take out her missile launchers personally while not putting her on the CMD (as confirmed at 11:57). With that debriefing, the next mission happens almost immediately.
You can take out the launchers but the ship retreats when it gets to 0% shields and is one minute away from hyperspace which makes it nearly impossible to kill. I use heavy rockets since the corvette missile launchers are invisible for some reason, if you tab through all of its' systems you cannot find one. The M/CRV one shows up but not the regular ones.
@Vanguard717 Ah, don't care if the ship escapes, as long as you add points for hitting lasers at it. Think of it as a power move. I see.
@@michaelandreipalon359 I do that in the next mission:D
Back when most games required thought to play!
They don't make 'em like they used to
They still do. Look at puzzles for games like Batman: Arkham Shadow and the Golden Idol duology, for some recent examples. No, what one's clamoring for a neat stories that complement the gameplay, even if they're just excuse plots exclusive to game manuals and also those long in-game readables, hehe.
I have all those X-Wing games too. I keep meaning to get back to them.
Definitely worth revisiting for the nostalgic value
I heard you can make the Romulans start attacking the Borg. How can I do that?
in order to do that you can either A) cross the neutral zone twice and when the Romulans go to start attacking you run into the Borg base with a couple of ships so that when your ships die the Borg turrets start shooting the cloaked Romulan ones or B) cross the neutral zone border once, then fight the Borg near the border but have them cross the second time
(Vid number and title should be changed.) Those poor civilian Corvettes. Kind of wasteful using the torps on them. Good thing GUN flight Mu is only programmed to use slow ion cannons even in dogfighting. It can easily assumed that the Tantive IV received a portion of the DS plans in this mission. There are other incidents from which it received more information, ranging from data acquired by Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors on Danuta (Dark Forces), Bria Tharen and Red Hand Squadron on Toprawa followed up by stragglers on Ralltiir (the Han Solo trilogy novel Rebel Dawn which is basically a proto-Rogue One, and the Episode IV radio drama/Empire comics), Senator Garm Bel Iblis on Darkknell a few Death Star escapees and the Polis Massa Rebel cell (Battlefront II 2005), and maybe some other Rebel fleet (Empire at War's Imperial campaign). Either way, Operation Skyhook was one big team effort that paid off despite costly endeavors, kind of like how the Bungie era Halo games and side material (in a nutshell, novels like The Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike among them) did things from Reach to 3+ODST. 14:15: The Super Star Destroyer Executor should still be in construction on Fondor (though it was built on the Scarl system, according to The Force Unleashed), according the Classic Star Wars newspaper comics. An hour later, the next mission happens.
Changed it, forgot to since I had to re-upload it thanks
I’ve enjoyed playing that mission back in my day on the computer
so good
It ain't over till the victory music sings 30:48
amen
Nostalgic
to the max
0:24: A revelation to new players, an already familiar routine to veterans like Vanguard. The initial Y-Wings should have been tasked in disabling the Intrepid. Makes the job easier if that were done instead of this expendable charge by your allies. Should have focused on the shield generators and not the TIEs. Who cares if not all the TIEs launched from the Intrepid, when the objective is paramount and when the scoreboard is loaded with them already. 16:18: (reads description) I sympathize, and one would have used the last two torps for this effort when it reaches bare hull damage. The real challenge for this mission is bearing the loss of the wingmen and allies plus the Gunboat reinforcements (which should have arrived after you destroy the Intrepid, so to make things easy). In proper Legends canon, the Intrepid is the very first Imperial Star Destroyer successfully destroyed by the Rebel Alliance in a conventional space battle.
The first wave of Y-Wings is going to die immediately after their initial pass so I choose to thin the numbers then take out the generators when the second wave is approaching
A long time ago I belonged to the X-Wing side of things, "Rebel Squadrons."
I've been a member of the RS since 2007 I think, although it is very quiet these days
Forgot to mention this for the Rescue at Mon Calamari simulator mission: apparently, the Freighter and Container being captured cannot be damaged by the responding TIEs simply because they share the same Imperial affiliation; the two targets should have been designated in the code as neutral so for there to be legitimate stakes in the mission. Back to this mission: if one's into lore accuracy, the next mission should be done immediately, because the opportunity to really destroy an Imperial-class Star Destroyer is just too good to pass up by the Rebel Alliance.
I did do it right after for lore reasons, just releasing it today
For a sec, I thought this is a mainline mission, not a simulation one. Oh, well, good content is still good content. Tugs. Small, slippery, and rarely seen craft in this game. And then there are the TIE Fighters. Would it have been more practical to capture the Wiggins, not leave it behind and nova it? 42 TIEs. Was the Star Destroyer Warrior short on them, or is this all the simulation has to offer?
It was all it had
*(reads description)* The Sentry craft aren't here, though. Darn, Z-Pata 1 got killstealed. Though inconsistent with Legends lore, wasn't there a cloakship in The Clone Wars 2008? 11:05: (ahems in TIE Phantom) 11:41: Such is a "Chekhov's X" trope. 2,977,704+565,928 = 3,543,632 points.
The galactic republic had a cloaked ship that was also a corvete during the clone wars
Simple mission, nova all FRTs, and do one's best against the T/Is. I have to admit, you arguably did better than Keyan Farlander in the Strategy Guide. 0:25: And what happened to the Frigate? 7:50: That's the mission's end. Feel free. Word to self, make sure to not potshot the Intrepid, lest Iota shall come out. CMD may be down, but at least the other two views are still up. Seems 1 T/I got away.
Its the worst when the CMD and Hud are both out
0:55: So much for Imperial effort. Here's some advice for tractor beams and yellow locks: a wait of two seconds may make things hard to miss. 10:09: Don't worry, that may occasionally happen with X-Wings and TIE Fighters.
I try not to use the tractor beam unless I have to but in this game I use it more due to having a hard time seeing a lot of things lol
I loved taking down capital ships in this game. Such a classic. Nice work.
Thanks, it's quite challenging but very fun especially with a tie defender
How the hell did we ever survive on 16bit graphics :D
No clue lol
This game really needed TIE Fighter's Gouraud graphics, so true that. Still, at least it's surprisingly easier to look at compared to XWA+TFTC. Near realistic graphics can be really distracting or blinding.
imagination
*(reads description)* Don't forget enemy missile locks not having a sound or music cue either when flying A- or B-Wings. Blue 1 is actually Biggs Darklighter, Tattooinian friend of Luke Skywalker, hijacker alongside future Rogue Derek "Hobbie" Klivian, Red Squadron ace alongside the likes of Jek Tono Porkins and future Rogue Leader Wedge Antilles, and later martyr on the Battle of Yavin. Curious, the Rebel Corvettes actually being Tantives from Alderaan. 7:23: Unlucky A-Wing. At least there's music cues for a wingman loss.
Ah I didn't know it was him good for lore purposes
We need gsmes this involved and detailed again.
Agreed, I wish they would have kept making games like this
*(reads description)* Dude, the reload exploit should be common knowledge, especially with the Official Strategy Guide in mind. Can't recommend it if one's into purist gameplay, though. Surprised you didn't go for the Gunboats first. 6:20: Waste. Also surprised you didn't do a friendly fire thing between the Thinin and the Yaai. 15:33: More like "kah-dreh". Also, allied Missile Boats aren't worth the hype.
I've never read the strategy for this game, only for XWA. I thought about doing the friendly fire thing but I didn't want to lose either kill by accident
Bonus goals for this are quite unnecessary in hindsight. In Watsonian terms, yeah, they could be connected to the TIE Phantom project. In Doylist terms, don't see this glitch much.
Yea the bonus/primary goals are the same in this one
I despise Romulans!!!👿

Mitth'raw'nuruodo.
I gotta admit, not much to say about the mission. Well, apart from that briefing bug and the interesting ship naming with the strange Bob and German navy reference Kormoran. 7:22: Isn't he the briefing officer too?
He is so he's essentially telling you to report to him lol
*(reads description)* Commander Lagrane does advise doing that with the Gunboats in the Strategy Guide, so you're in the right track. Have to admire the Corvette Jeffrey's covering fire. 13:17: Can't believe your wingman's hyperspace point is that far. Meanwhile, you are able to just hyper away at will and without need of a rendezvous point of sorts. 13:31: I think the mission's complete. Now to take out the straggler. Rogue One may be a great movie in its own right, but the multimedia project stuff that surrounds Operation Skyhook sure is more intriguing, and I'm surprised there are people who didn't like it for being "wildly inconsistent" because of how the Death Star plans were differentially acquired in, say, this game, the Han Solo trilogy by A.C. Crispin, Battlefront II 2005, Dark Forces, Empire at War, and so on. Oh, good, you seem to have not let a single Assault Gunboat escape.
Yea the corvette in this mission definitely showed up to play with that wall of fire
I remember playing this waaaaaay back when, and I distinctly remember my squeal of glee when I heard Vader chose me to be his wingman.
It was a surreal moment for sure and hearing the voice that sounded like his was incredible for the time
Whoa! What a great result for someone who has clearly never done that before! I jest. Great and it's nice to see it again. Took me back. Thanks
Lol I actually think I have never taken out the frigate before so that was a first I think
Man I miss this game. They tried to replicate it but always miss the mark. Miss the 90 just play this and x-wing.
I highly recommend checking out TFTC aka Tie Fighter Total Conversion, comes with Re-Imagined and Classic which is this version of the game except modernized
That was my favorite game in HS. Loved this game.
I was only 7 when it came out but I played it a ton, still have my original CD somewhere
@ the graphics haven’t aged well lol but I remember being blown away at the time.
Pass on the ISD for me. Lore reasons. However, since it doesn't launch surplus craft despite potshots, I am at least allowed to just fire at it lots for more points. According to the Official Strategy Guide, T/I Alpha and T/B Beta have two starting positions, which are either far enough away that you can get your bearings easy, or right on top of you. You got the former for this playthrough. Interesting how the TIEs fly out in ones or twos. Apparently, according to the Guide, the Intrepid has an acute shortage of craft or pilots.
I can never pass up free points, your restraint is commendable
Show the difficulty setting.
You can tell it is on hard by the medal awarded at the end of the mission, top performance is only awarded on hard if you get more than 50,000 points, on medium it would have been a good performance medal
That’s a tough one on hard. Nicely done.
Thanks, having to inspect everything makes it quite challenging
Mission name's "Preemptive Strike!", not "Intercept Convoy". Strange name for an Interdictor. Curious as to why the Nebulon-B2 Modified Frigates are named after the Japanese word for "bear", if not a type of money from Indonesia or Malaysia... such is Nichijou wordplay humor, funnily enough. 3:16: But Admiral Thrawn is long gone. Such is literal wordplay. As should be said in the stuff description, the beam system is Tractor, not Jamming. Also, the Courageous does need to be sacrificed according to the plot. If one wants a helpful reload while making sure the T/Ds don't show up yet, here's a hint from the Official Strategy Guide: *do not destroy half the cargo craft and two of the 5 following things - the platform, the Interdictor, and the three Kumas.* (Ah, seems you have this in mind.) Oh, and in my own experience, one shouldn't waste or have intercepted at least one secondary in this mission. Every missile or rocket must count in damaging Zaarin's efforts, even if it's only against mere turrets so to avoid said interceptions.
Changed the mission title, think I re-used the wrong details from my previous playthrough thanks
