The Mask Man is a delightfully creepy shopkeeper for your D&D games. Use him as a recurring merchant with an interest in grisly and cursed magic items, or as a lethal manipulator sewing chaos where he roams... D&D Needs More Dragons!
Переглядів 7684 місяці тому
D&D needs more unique and interesting dragons, so for Smaugust we created two draconic beings with interesting flavor and abilities to use in your games. Oh iv drawn something very similar
Spectacular I'm subscribing now so I don't miss a thing
instant subscribe you keep making cool monsters ill keep comin!
Since the Cinder Broker has a draconic appearance, there could be variants based off the different types of dragons too! Maybe some specialize in an elemental plane and group together to corner the market(and the control of) the plane. A particularly powerful one sounds like the perfect warlock patron too!
Thank you for the unique monsters, I might use some of these in my curse of strahd campaign
Hope you do more of these, I miss JessJackdaw and their ideas and you are doing their concept justice.
Im defenetly going to use the bramble beast in my game! Already have an idea for it!
I love these what table are you guys using..?
Loved this! Im excited to see more designs you designs come up with
The first monster reminds me of a creature from English folklore called the Church Grim, go look it up when you get the time. I've also been thinking about missed opportunities in Pokemon, and now D&D as well. One of those creatures, on both sides, is the Ramidreju, a creature from Spanish lore that is described as a weasel-like creature with a boar-like snout (usually with the horns on snout) and green fur with an extra long (almost snake-like) body, with the ability to detect (and typically seeking out) Gold and Treasures, with gold act as a calming element when it gets a hold of the material, and its fur is described as a sort of magical cure-all, another interesting fact about the Ramidreju is that they are said to only appear every hundred years or so, and always to a wild member of the weasel family. The other missed opportunity for D&D, currently (I have no idea what new monsters are in the revised 2024 Monster Manual coming in February) is the Aralez, a celestial canine from Armenian mythology. The Aralez is described as a winged dog-like creature that descends from the heavens to revive heroes that have literally died by licking their wounds. Having creature like this could open up fun lore possibilities, like the inspiration for resurrection spells could come from accounts of people witnessing this phenomenon, what that is can be left to the people whose job it to worry about that world's lore, but it could also be explained why the reason diamonds are used is due to them being the best viable substitute for the Aralez's saliva, which in turn could be such a highly prized and sought after material for resurrections (and material for resurrection spells) that getting your hands on just a tiny vial of the stuff would be equivalent to literally holding the majority of a decently sized nation's finances in the palm of your hand.
Is there a giant list of D&D creatures that I dont know about???
I already have an idea on how to tie the grave grin with my death god! Love all of these designs and concepts. Thank you for reviving this.
I miss the videos from JessJackdaw. Thank you so much for reviving his concept!
Eager to see more of this series. And I hope you make a video of the previous ones you showed images of. I'm curious what you used and what their stories are.^^
Do you have a video on those others you already made?
Been a while since I saw someone do this trope. Glad to see another artist taking up the concept.^^
A fuongus and a mimic would be a fun combination
Love the video, the designs and lore art crazy good. I only wish Empoleon was a little more apparent in the design of the Usurper. Hard to keep that with a shape shifter tho, understandably. Here's hoping for a Zubat in the future.
I LOVE the statblock and amazing art for this monster. The only thing I would implement differently if I were to use it would be increasing the psychic damage from the masks to 4d6 per turn as well as requiring different kind of saves for each mask type. Mask of Frailty: CON SAVE Mask of Indolence: CON SAVE Mask of Lunacy: WIS SAVE Mask of Misfortune: WIS/CON SAVE depending on how the effect is flavored to occur Mask of Pain: CON SAVE Mask of Powerlessness: INT SAVE Mask of Stupidity: INT SAVE Mask of Wrath: WIS SAVE The save would be repeated at the endof your turn. On a success you're simply not subjected to any negative effects except the psychic damage. If you succeed the saving throw three times in total you become immune to the effect of the mask man's masks for 24 hours. If you fail three times you have disadvantage on any saving throws to resist the effects of the mask for 24 hours. If you critically fail a saving throw the mask cannot be removed for 3 rounds except by the mask's mans own volition. On a critical success you can attempt to remove the mask as a free action with a successful DC 18 (not 19) Strength Check. Amazing work, this is just how I'd personally spin it.
Hey love the art and really like that stat blocks you guys made. I'll probably put one or two of them into one of my games
Incredibly impressive character design something so remarkable but so unknown I love it it's perfect.
Sooooo creepy. I love it!
how doesnt this get more love 😫
Honestly this gave me an idea for having the mask man or a similar shopkeeper with attacks that can revolve around the party. By analyzing what they buy from them and always keeping note on who was looking for or bought what. Using this information to know how to best deal with them. Are they looking for bows and daggers, well that’s probably a ranger or a rouge and the mask that reduces dexterity would be good for them. Are they looking for instruments, that’s probably a bard and a mask that hinders their charisma would take care of them. Although their insight is not magic in any way just him making assumptions. if the players were to plan on combat from probably someone wronged by the merchant, or one of those powerful enemies they could throw them of by having the barbarian asking for small daggers and things like that, in hopes the merchant would assume something that’s not quite true and give the wrong mask to the wrong people.
I will say I’ve never dmed or done homebrew this was just an idea I had if I was to run a merchant character like this
This is such a well thought-out idea! I've been following your Instagram for a while and love getting struck with inspiration whenever you post. I hope you make a lot more of these videos. You're killing it!
You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?
Starting following you guys on Instagram and used some of your ideas in my game I am running. I became a Patreon patron after The Church of the Iron Thorn items showed up and have to say you do some great original work. Keep it up!☺
Thank you so much for your kind words, we also really loved working on the Iron Thorn so that's amazing to hear.
@@themithralcanvas you are welcome. ☺
The Blackheart could go really well with another item you guys have made, both thematically and mechanically: the Hag's Finger. Was that intentional?
They weren't intentionally paired, but since they both leaned into the Hag inspiration they definitely go well together!
The Skeleton Key is my personal favorite of these 10 just because the flavor of hacking into the game and messing with numbers is so sick. And having the DM act like an antivirus in response is cool for a “curse”.
Thank you so much! We hope you enjoy playing with it in game if you ever get the chance.
Grovespeakers sound like they'd be lots of fun!
Your drawings are a masterpiece!!
looks very good!
this is dope amigos
These are great! So much flavor. Since you’re modelling them, are you also releasing STL files on your patreon?
These are absolutely fantastic! Love the level of depth that this could add to any story and the unique takes on different forms!! The grovespeaker is so adorable and fun
Yeahhhh they’re so cute, lots of fun to design that one. Thank youuu!
Long time patron here, keep up the great work, guys!
Glad you like it, and thank you so much for your support!
brilliant! dragons are so iconic but it's true that they lack depth. crowfather is an awesome take on a hoarding dragon with a loyal brood, still thematically appropriate but so distinctly flavorful
Thank you so much! Glad you liked our take on the hoarding aspect
