Приєднався 4 вер 2023
Welcome to the Irwin Family Farms UA-cam Channel! We're a family-run farm located at the border of Cedar Springs and Rockford, Michigan, on a mission to provide local families with healthy, happy, and ethically raised food while nurturing the land and our community.
Inspired by our own experience with unhealthy store-bought food, we decided to take matters into our own hands and start Irwin Family Farms. From pasture-raised meat chickens and layer hens to forest hogs and, in the future, grass-fed cattle, we're dedicated to creating a sustainable, healthy, and happy environment for our animals and ultimately, providing fresh and wholesome food for local families.
🎥 What to Expect 🎥
On this channel, we'll share our journey of building our farm from the ground up. From clearing the land and building chicken coops to starting our garden and planning for future animals, we'll document every step of the way. We'll also share tips on sustainable farming, homesteading, and healthy living.

There like Ohhh this is so good and fancy. Our human loves us giving us this yummy food.
Yeah, they ate it down super fast lol ended up giving them a second tray cause they liked it so much
The grass grows under our pine trees just fine. They been there for decades.
@@Melissa-gn3dv with as thick as my woods were. There was grass around the hardwoods. Not much around all the pines.
Hi I grow potatoes on my land where pine 🌲 trees dropped there pine leaf .
I'm not even 100% sure if that is true that i wouldn't get anything to grow under pine trees after they were removed. Just something an old farmer told me lol.
I have probably 12 videos that need to be edited. So stay tuned for more videos!
Where did you get the nesting boxes? What breed are the roosters?
Great work guys.
Where can we get these roll outs nesting boxes , it looks better than the last one I saw elsewhere Thank you for the video, your coop house size is inspiring me to upsize mine
Thanks for the video and sharing your journey. Cant wait to see updates.
You might want to get some rubber matting or heavy duty sand paper sheets to put on that bench. It will be really slippy without it. You dont want them slipping and breaking a leg.
Not a bad idea! Thought about putting some shingles so they could grind down their hooves.
@@IrwinFamilyFarms you will still have to clip the hooves even with the shingle. But if you can find a good deal on shingles then it sounds like a good plan. You could always buy extra to use on any roof structure you will be building.
So sweet
They are adorable!
I wish I had the county/forest/farm life everyone else enjoys
Find a farm and help them out! Always farms looking for volunteers.
Cool nice big living area for them
Yep, they will be in here for probably a couple weeks and get moved to a fresh new area!
😊
Our thoughts exactly!
Good stuff. Keep it up. And remember what the wife says "family friendly" lol although I would love to see the unfamily friendly outtakes lol
Hahaha there’s definitely some I cut out 🤣

Oh nice!!! How’s the weather over there?
Great video. I am from Northwest Ohio
Awesome! I live in Lima, Ohio for 4 years.
This is awesome, can't wait to follow the progress. I'm 30 now and hope to be where you're at by 35.
Hell yeah brother! Have you started your Homestead/farm?
Just backyard gardening so far
Sounds like a good plan to me. I would look at Jason from sow the lands chicken tractors. I think you will fund them easier to work with. As you can actually walk inside them. The other sort you will be either crawling on your hands and knees to catch up the chickens or sending your kids in. Broiler chickens are dirty and you don't want to be crawling through that. Even if you move them twice aday.
Yeah it’s funny. I actually made this video at the beginning of 2024. And have already changed plans to go with a different style chicken tractor that I can stand up in lol.

Im in the uk born and raised. But have lived in florida on and off because my dad moved there when i was 7 ( 48 now). Been around pets and farm animals all my life. Grown my own food most of my adult life, before that my grandparents taught me how. I will say its not just the farming lifestyle that reduces stress. In my mind its putting down all the technology we have been told we need. Working things out yourself and learning the skills needed. That gives you confidence in your own abilities. Learning to really trust yourself not just to make money but to actually live. This i believe is how you become less stressed.
Yessss that’s exactly it! When you figure out complex problems and you do it without the use of technology. It’s extremely rewarding!
@@IrwinFamilyFarms yes I use tech, isn't everything in my life. I use Google as a shortcut on research, as in I find out what books to read about a subject. I still prefer to read a book to research. If I want opinions about different things or projects I will ask Google that information. But I also learn by doing. Getting something "wrong " isn't a bad thing I use it to learn like a stepping stone. People are so worried about making mistakes, but forget that throughout time that is how we have learnt. You are learning a new lifestyle because you wanted more out of the life you were living. You wanted to be challenged. Farming will give you that. Don't forget to teach your kids while your doing it. Show them and let them help, this will also give you the gift of time with them.
This was so nice. Thanks

100% such bs!!!
Very cool mate . New subscriber from Australia
Thank you! 🙏 and thanks for subscribing! We are having fun. lol
I agree the ban on drilling a well is ridiculous, especially, since you can effectively filter out the bad chemicals . I suspect it is because they want to hold down the cost of reimbursing for the filtration system. Good luck. I hope the test well turns out not to be contaminated. So you don't waste that money.
Appreciate that! Yeah, it hasn’t been fun dealing with it.
Hello, I just found your channel. Thanks for mentioning it's okay to share my channel. I am a single mom, about to buy property and I have been making practice videos. Will be creating a mini homestead as I work full time as well. May be a hot mess but still very excited 😂. Looking forward to more of your videos!
Oh you are welcome to come introduce yourself in my comments too. Lots of small channels over there helping each other get started.
New subscriber. I don't know much about pigs. Why do you carry them upside down? 🙃
To be honest I don’t feel like we did it right. Luckily, we did not hurt any of the pigs. Because they all grew up very well and very healthy and could run around like crazies. That episode was the very first day I had ever touched a pig in my life lol they were so skittish that I could not grab them and pick them up other than that way lol, so do research if you end up getting pegs to figure out how to carry them correctly. I will probably unload them much differently this time than I did the first time.
@@IrwinFamilyFarms thanks for the transparency. They seemed fine I was just curious. My cousin wants to do pigs on my property if I get enough land but I know zero. More of a gardening , permaculture, chicken nerd 🤓
@@Ayla_HotMessGardens absolutely! I actually have nine episodes filmed that I’m working on editing 😂🤣. We got so busy because I run another business that I never kept up with it last year. But I really enjoy farming and really want to create a community. I try to always reply to every comment. I will say that I loved raising pigs I have 10 more coming And we’re gonna be breeding pigs this year
The reason you carry them by their back legs upside-down is because it's the easiest way to handle them. As you saw when he put them down it was their front legs that hit the floor 1st, so they basically walked out of his hands. Pigs squirm alot and are noisy when you pick them up. It's easier on the human and pig bodies doing it this way.
@@IrwinFamilyFarmsYou actually did it pretty good. They walked off with front legs down 1st which is correct. You just need to build your confidence.
Barbacoa
Please please please let me have 1!! I'm in love.
Think you will have to Fight Whitney for one 😆
@@IrwinFamilyFarms we can share ! 😆
Let me keep them on my property and she can call them hers. Lol
Lovely set up
Thank you! We worked hard on it!
Congratulations, on the start of your homestead! I was born and raised, in Northern California, and am an old lady now, so I have a lot of time to watch folks, build their farms. I am looking forward to watching your journey, and wish you nothing but good luck. My first pet, was a chicken, at the age of four, and I have loved them ever since. See you on the next video.
Thanks Gina! We are excited to have you part of the community! That’s awesome your first pet was a chicken! We have grown to love ours. We have a sick one right now. ☹️ Hoping she pulls through!

Yup
It’s crazy how fast they do it lol. Probably one started and the other were like. Bro! That looks like fun! 😆
