There were just over 2000 1978 Lil Red's built and it is estimated that only 800 survive. The majority of Lil Red's you will find are the square headlight 1979 models which over 5000 were produced.
Wow I remember those trucks when they were brand-new I love them that sounds like a great one nice looking little red express truck dude
excellent
Wait.... this exact truck just had new power train installed at Classic Cars of Houston...
Are you sure it’s the exact same truck? I would like to buy it back if you know who owns it.
How much did you get for it?
back when trucks were trucks with styling ,,my dads neighbor friend owned one ,,we loved it all around ,,he would take us kids for a ride in it around town and ride in the back before it was illegal..we loved dodge and fords back then ,,,I remember 79s had the rectangular headlights I like both styles ..great 360 motor ,,back when you could work on them ,,great video ...fastest production truck at the time !!!,the stuff today with all the electronics and thin steel and plastics suck....I miss the 70s
Hello David, I am the most recent owner of your Lil Red Express. I would appreciate it if you could please contact me. I would like to find out more history on this cool truck. Please use this email, clinerich@yahoo.com, Thanks again, Rich
Always wanted one of them...
My 2018 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack with fresh paint correction, ceramic coating and clear bra on front bumper.
I was working on my 78 Lil Red today, priming the hood and getting ready to shoot color on it and a couple of other body panels tomorrow. I just received a pair of Hedman ceramic coated long tube headers last week for it, like this LRE has. Those are supposed to be the brand to use as opposed to Hookers for best fitment. I am going to put on the Mopar valve covers like this one has, except they will be the polished aluminum version. My truck has the black buckets like this one & is non-A/C as the vast majority of Lil Reds were. I am pulling the original AM/FM radio out and installing a NOS Motorola aftermarket AM/FM 8 track unit that looks just like the OEM 1978 Dodge 8 track radio except it has chromed push button tuning nobs. Although I have the OEM chrome wheels like this one has, I am going to stash them and buy a set of U.S. Indy slotted mags to drive around with. Don't want to risk wasting one in a blow out! Cheers! Nice truck, like the subtle touches. Too bad you used the button down tonneau cover on it! That puts permanent holes in bed.
where did u get the box cover I,ve looked every where and the serpentine belt set up
Fine example of a piece of American muscle truck history.
I scattered the deer when I rounded the bend. I stopped and waited to see what happened.
hey, you still trying to sell this truck? I am very interested. Ed
Beautiful Lil Red. What all is done to the engine? It doesn't sound stock.
Now that's a clean truck and awesome takeoff.
hey i got a question for ya where did ya get the bed cover from or is it custom?
No, they don't have the tonneau cover on the bed. Not sure why, since that was stock on most trucks.
He's off. The 78 LRE were catless the 79 came with cats. PCV was law approx. 10 years prior. What people forget is the original 426Hemi engineers that also designed ALL of the MaxWedge &Hemi SuperStockers were retirement age.The LRE was their last project. Each engineer contributed a signature detail piece to the LRE trim. The small block hot rod parts they had worked on to be sold thru DirectConnection for these trucks was axed by management. The LRE was meant to be their performance swan song
Woooo love dodge
I loved these and the warlocks as a kid. I always bought these as plastic model kits.
Excellent & sharp!!
where did you get the air dam below the front bumper?
@justforever96 Even today apparently trucks are not as heavily regulated with emissions as cars. Problems with cats is they rob your engine of horse power.
@Ratkill9000 Interesting. I didn't know that. How about PCV and all that stuff? I wonder if not needed a cat is why trucks became so popular during the 70's...they were less restricted than cars were.
That is one great looking and sounding Mopar! You gotta love these old trucks... they always bring out the kid in me! These were the trucks that set the standard for the performance pick-ups that followed such as the Silverado SS454, Ford SVT Lightning and of course the Dodge Ram SRT-10! If you can't Dodge it then just Ram it!!! =D
@justforever96 Trucks back then could get away without having catalytic converters because they were considered work trucks. This was changed in the 1980s. That was the loop hole in the system so most trucks were not manufactured with catalytic converters. Look it up if you want to.
@Ratkill9000 I'm pretty sure that most vehicles had plenty of "emissions bullshit" in 1978. They started that crap in like '71. The Lil Red Express was the exception, not the norm. Although I'm not sure how they got away with it; something to do with being allowed to make "minor modifications" to an already certified engine without having to re-certify it. I think Dodge bent the rules a little to make this thing.
@fadely98 yup factory installed
Ram SRT-10's cool Daddy!!! Great!!!
r the stacks origanal
DAMN! that truck is mean!!
That is such a nice truck and sounds great. My father used to build those trucks in Windsor Ontario Canada.
LOVE these trucks. My grandpa has one that he has only driven it about 40 miles in the last 15 years. In the process of restoring it now. He told me a few days ago that its my 16th birthday present! SO happy! But his has red interior instead of black. not too much stock on it but the stock 360, and stock stacks. i guess everything is stock except for the carpet! lol. nice truck man.. these are amazing!
Nice run! I think these Li'l trucks are really cool. That sounds great through the stacks. Dave Australia
@Megafan61 Isn't it better to keep the engine in the truck and just warm it up using block heater and drive it for about 30 miles on weekend. Unless you live in very cold area and have no intention of using it much, I am not sure why you're keeping the engine out of the vehicle. Are you properly storing the rest of the truck? More vehicles are damage from improper storage than from driving.
That's a beast truck dude.
Damn, now thats what is called sweeet!
15000 $
Beat that ford ford sucks dick
@g20s10silveradoman more like 30-50k
hey if you know how many lil reds were built can you tell me how many 76 dodge d100s were built and how many estimate are left?
How about 8,000 also where do you live at what state?
where u live?
awesome vid. i also have a 78 that is my first truck and live 20 minutes from National Trails in Ohio and close to Heath where they cruise. I have had the truck fior5 1/2 yrs and just put a '68 383 big block in it il have a vid up soon be great to hear what u think about it
Yes I have sold the truck.
I have one of these. Yours is the Wildest I have heard yet!! Great Lil Red. Have you sold it?
my dad have one just like that its remind me alot of good memories
when i was a kid, a guy next door had one of these. i loved that truck so much and wanted one so bad... i still do!
I had a Ford F100 6 foot bed stepside when this Dodge came out. In my opinion the best looking trucks came out in the 60s and 70s. Todays trucks look to much like the ugly cars they build except for a few. Most of the grills suck. Dodge still has one of the most boldest grills.
I saw a small spec of dirt on the paint.
