My name is Barry Shears from Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Canada. I have been playing highland bagpipes for over 45 years and Scottish smallpipes for almost 20. I have spent the last 30 plus years researching and publishing information about the old style pipers and music in Nova Scotia, especially Cape Breton. I plan to feature additional piping performances by myself, some of my field work and several friends, and to examine the nuances of the older, step dance oriented style of piping.

I was at Kings College in Halifax 1975/76 when you used to play in the quad evenings. I came looking for you specifically on discovering that my usually very reserved cat is mad for solo bagpipes. She purrs ferociously and tries to burrow into the source of the music. I play it on my phone to lure her onto my lap. It’s great to hear your playing again.

Are there any plans to republish these tune books any time soon?
I hoping for an anniversary/ expanded printing of The Gathering of the Clans Volume 1.in time for xmas.. other books available include Cape Breton Collection, The gathering of there Clans Vol 2 and my new collection Legacy are all currently available .. Play it like you Sing it is out of print but I may have a handful of copies coming to me in the next month or so
