Stunning views 😍
Praying you don’t get beat up by the trees 🌲 🌳 🌲 🌳 ! Blessings for a safe hike.
Gorgeous views!
the music is nice!
Thanks!
Very good! Great update about the trail. I might not comment on every video , but I am watching them all. Great work overcoming the extra challenges from the storm.
Much appreciated! Thanks for your comment!
We used to see lots of bears up there. They love the acorns.
I've seen plenty of bears in the backcountry, mostly in the fall and mostly eating the acorns, thanks for watching?
Awesome 😎! So glad to see you made it past Atkins. I love your choice in music. Great views.
Well this is just past Glasgow. Will be to Atkins soon, thanks for watching!
@@infinitehikingloop Oops! I am so accustomed to everyone going NOBO. I knew you were SOBO, sigh.
Congratulations on 1400 miles! Today I saw a post regarding the Nantahala National Forest. Crews have cleared the pathway. The AT is clear now from NOBO miles 78.3 to 166.6. So you can skip down to 166.6 and hike from there to Springer Mountain. Praying maybe they will get more cleared for you! I was excited for a moment because I know another Aquaman - Scott Beneroffe. He hiked SOBO starting in winter 🥶! Baxter can be hiked southward once every thing is frozen solid and the park rangers are sure you aren’t committing suicide.
Yes Davenport Gap to Springer seems to be opened, will be heading that way soon, thanks? My Aquaman is a young kid who just started at Harpers Ferry going south. It rained every day his first two weeks
@@infinitehikingloop oh poor guy! Yes, Aquaman is very fitting for him too. I am anxious to see you make it to a point where you flip south and are safe. Yet, I am cheering you on to make it through whatever part of the trail that can actually be hiked.
That was a great spiritual thought!! Thank you for sharing it! Congratulations on your huge mile marker!! Almost done!!! I hope the remainder of the trail will be ok for you!! (Because of the hurricanes).
Much appreciated, thanks for watching?
By the way, I'll be gone on my own adventures until the end of October, so I won't be commenting until after that (both on this account or the patriciakkrivoshein one).
Wishing you the best, have fun!
I have section hiked the Priest NOBO. Climbing down the other side, which you came up is a b**ch. Going down the Priest killed me and I got off the trail early because of the climb and descent. But remember, "Virginia is flat."
Haha, yes the elevation in Virginia certainly caught me off guard, thanks for watching!
The rain does make everything pretty! Beautiful pictures.
Silver linings, yes, thanks for watching!
I just love The French/Italian Riviera accordion music!! With all the river and brook crossings you did in Maine, those you're doing now, pale in comparison.
I definitely feel like I am in the south now, thanks for watching!
Those are lucky days when the trail follows an old abandoned road.
Agreed, thanks for watching!
So good that the cool, dry air blew in! It's quite miserable being damp all the time. You had some super views today! So nice that someone mowed that trail. The trail maintainers are really awesome! But all those blowdowns are just going to take some time to clear.
Cool dry air never felt so good, thanks for watching!
Ramdino on Trail reported 10/11 that he has first hand accounts that you can hike at least to Atkins.
Interesting, thanks. I was thinking about rerouting about 20 miles before Atkins. I'll probably get more information in the next day or two (real time not video time 🤣). Thanks for watching!
@@infinitehikingloop You are welcome. I appreciate you taking us along. Praying you stay safe.
Well, there's at least one bridge that didn't get washed away. That's a hard climb, going Sobo up the Priest! That fog was spooky-looking! It sounds like you have a good plan for going forward. Indeed, Virginia does have some elevation gain!
Indeed, thanks for watching!
Have you tried injunji toe socks or creeper toe socks? At least with them your toes won’t be rubbing together. (I love them and they seem to work well) may be worth a try for you
I have the injunji toe socks and love them! But feet being wet for so long is tough. Thanks for the thought!
Haha, your joke! It will be interesting to see how the rest of your journey goes. If things line up right, hopefully you will be able to complete it successfully!
I hope so too! But it's looking like I may have to skip a section
Which came first the chicken or the egg? 😂
I have heard reports of the same, locals doing day hikes, trail runners, and backpackers. Curious to see how far you can get.
I might have to skip from Atkins down to Davenport Gap, there is just not much information so it's a hard decision. Thanks for watching!
I think you should good about your decision. No idea what things will look like in 300 miles and this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Good luck.
Much appreciated, thanks for the comment!
Also can’t you re-assess as you go these next 200-300 miles. Stay safe!
Very true, thanks for watching!
Maybe as you go along, people will be working on fixing things so that things will be better by the time you get there and you will be able to get resupplies and such. Also, you are not the type of hiker who depends on hostels that much, so that may work in your favor. So it may all work out. The worst problem will be re-routes involving a lot of road-walking. I'm not sure what they are going to do about that bridge in Erwin, Tennessee. That won't be an easy fix. All you can do is see what comes up, I guess.
I think at this point it is best to skip over from Atkins VA to Davenport Gap. It's difficult to know what to do and there is not much information available
These trail towns DEPEND on the hikers to make a living! I believe they would be thrilled to see you there!
That is a tricky one. I imagine at some point they would love hikers to come in and spend money. At the same time you don't want to come in and eat up a town's limited resources. Not sure what is the best answer
Glad to see you still there. Maybe you should add a chain saw to your gear. I’ve heard some are requesting hikers for help. The trail maybe the only way to reach people. I continue to pray for you everyday. Sometimes the ATC is a little silly…I think you will be smart enough to figure it out….Happy Trails to you!
Much appreciated, thank you!
A lot of rain but at least no downed trees today! You did get some nice trail video.
Thanks!
I fear you're going to find more and more of those downed trees as you get further & further south. No one is doing trail maintenance right now because they are still trying to rescue or get supplies to people cut off by the intense flooding. Trail maintenance is a low priority at the moment. That was not just rain; it was hurricane-strength rain. Hopefully by the time you get there, resupply and such will be available. Right now in Damascus, they are bringing in trucks of food for the townspeople because a lot of the stores and cafes are not operational (I saw pictures of refrigerators and stoves that had floated out in the street). But the trail is all good in Georgia, they say. And they are working hard to try to get things up and running. So I suppose you'll just have to evaluate as you go along. Good Luck!
Yes, thanks for your comment, that is the plan, thanks for watching!
I’m glad you wern’t in the worst of it!
Me too, thanks for watching!
You are doing a great job handing all the rain!! I’m not sure how well i would handle it day after day. You have a great attitude! 🙏🏼 for all involved in the hurricane!!
Oh, the rain got me down a bit after a while, but I finally made peace with it. Thanks for watching!
That view at the beginning was gorgeous -- glad you caught it!
Thank you!
What a great spiritual thought!! A great reminder! Thank you for your spiritual thoughts all along your journey! 🙏🏼
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
Glad you had a great week with family!! And you had a good sunny last day so that was awesome! Love your jokes too!
It's always nice to find someone who likes my jokes. I only get eye rolls from the wife these days, thanks for watching!
Best sermon I've heard in quite a while - thx and Good bless
Much appreciated, thanks for watching!
I hope you are able to successfully complete the rest of your hike this year. If you do, be prepared for various re-routes. I'm guessing you haven't seen the pictures of Damascus, Erwin and Hot Springs. Hopefully they'll have some of that fixed by the time you get there. You certainly had some really nice views today after those rainy, foggy days! Haha, your beard joke was . . . a little . . . funny. What a beautiful place you had to cook dinner!
Thank you. I am not anticipating the ATC will provide a reroute for us SOBOs this year, but we'll see
Good stuff !
Much appreciated, thanks for watching!
Hope all was/ is ok for you in the hurricane. Be safe! Thanks for sharing your days with family with us all. Your kiddos are handsome young men! It’s awesome they got to hike with you for a while!
Thank you, it was definitely great to hike with them!
Omword!! Look at those super cute bears!! I had no idea they could actually climb trees, what a unique thing to see, that's amazing! 😍
Bears are excellent tree climbers. It's amazing to see how fast they can go up and down the tree! Thanks for watching
@@infinitehikingloop Wow I had no idea, I'm glad I found out! My first idea if I was to ever be chased by a bear was to climb a tree!!! 🤣
Actually you just need to hike with someone who you can run faster than 🤣 (that's a joke, don't run from a bear)
Shenadoah is a great place to hike with your family -- nothing too strenuous. Two bad you didn't get many views, but oh well, there were a few. Yikes! Three bears up in the tree! I hope the one that came down didn't head in your direction. Last year Shenadoah was hit by that wildfire, and this year Hurricane Helene really devastated the lower third of the trail with floods. How you decided what you're going to do about the rest of your hike yet?
I'm planning to just keep heading south until I can't. I know some hikers a few days in front of me so I can keep tabs on what they run into. Thanks for watching!
That is really cool to have your family join you for so many days on the trail. Also.. Jee those Bears.. did you kids get scared at all?
Black bears are generally skittish and run away from people. The base of the tree was actually down a steep hill so we felt fairly safe. Was pretty cool to see them with my son!
No video for three days. I hope you are well.
Thanks for your concern, I am having very poor cell service. Will be in town Sun I think and can upload more
10/2/2024, Updated at 11:05 a.m. National Forests in North Carolina, Tennessee, and southwest Virginia that the A.T. passes through are closed or asking visitors to stay away. The states of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia have declared a state of emergency. Hikers should postpone their trips to the southern A.T. until further notice (Georgia to Rockfish Gap, VA; NOBO miles 0.0 to 864.6). Although not all areas in this section are officially closed, there is still a risk of landslides in many areas, much of the A.T. in the south is inaccessible due to road closures, and emergency responders are at max capacity. There also may be dangers on the Trail from the storm like downed trees, severe erosion, washed out bridges, and swollen creeks and streams. Many devastated towns along the A.T. also have emergency orders in place excluding visitors so they can prioritize recovery. appalachiantrail.org/trail-updates/ga-va-tropical-storm-helene/
So rainy! Was that from Hurricane Helene? I would definitely take that "platinum blazing" option in all that rain, haha! At least you got a nice view at the end. Such a sweet family!
This was just before the storm, but we definitely got wet!
Another amazing video!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!! 😁
Thank you for sharing your family with us. You wife is beautiful and your kids so handsome, like their dad! I think it’s kinda good that it rained (kinda) so they see what you do need to deal with- not always a nice weather hiking day- however it would have been great if the weather had been nice for you!. Good idea to go to a place with a bed, shower and warmth!! ♥️🥾
I definitely had a great time with the family, thanks for watching!
The Shennies is beautiful in any season and weather. I guess rainy is the worst of weathers but it makes everything look so clean and bright. Glad the kids liked it.😊
We ended up with a couple decent days in the Shennies, was beautiful and was fun to hang out with the family, thanks for watching!
What a beautiful family you have!!! So happy you are having good days with them!!
Thank you, much appreciated!
That fence keeps the animals from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute from harming Appalachian Trail hikers. It is the research arm of the Smithsonian Zoo. The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute plays a leading role in the Smithsonian’s global efforts to save wildlife species from extinction and train future generations of conservationists. SCBI spearheads research programs at its headquarters in Front Royal, Virginia. It's very nice to see your interactions with your family! You all look fantastic all dressed up! I hope you are able to keep to your schedule for the rest of your hike. The southern 864 miles of the trail saw significant damage from Hurricane Helene. Many hostels are destroyed and the trail towns of Hot Springs, Damascus, and Erwin were really devastated. The concrete bridge at Erwin is broken into pieces. So there will definitely be some re-routing going on.
Thanks, very interesting about the Smithsonian facility. I guess I'll just keep moving south and see what comes, thanks for watching!
It's awesome you got to see the family and spend some time hiking with your son 😃 Shall make a trail blazer of him yet 😁 Hi family of some random stranger I do not know who is hiking one of the trails I have always wanted to do. 👋👋👋
It was awesome to see them and hike with them, thanks for your kind comment!
Hi miles!!!!!
