Fusion 360 - Quick Tips - Working with SVG
In this video i show you how to work around broken SVG sketches so they can be extruded to a solid body.
The basic procedure consisting of the steps described below:
Insert SVG
Find broken sketch curves
Extrude a surface behind the SVG
Use the project to surface command
Perform a thin extrude with chaining disabled
Repeat the thin extrude if needed
Delete floating faces

I had a 1974 RX3. Rear main seal was leaking. I asked about it at the dealership. "Not a big deal. You can take care of it next time." Two months later, I had my car towed to the dealership. Six others were ahead of mine, waiting for re-manufactured engines. Traded it at 30,000 miles because it wasn't the same after that. Got a 1985 RX7 and it was fine.
Can those textures be printed by a 3D printer ? If so how do you export the file to keep the texture ?
Hi, good question! Unfortunately, this method to add textures is not affecting the 3d model dimensions. To add textures that are applied to the physical model, there is a few options that i am aware of. You can model the textures in the design workspace of fusion, which may be complicated m depending on the complexity of your model and desired texture, but will allow you to export the model as a .step file or similar solid model format, if required. I believe one of the easiest methods is to search Google for formlabs texture engine, which can apply textures to a model with custom parameters of their preset options. Form labs will require you to make a free account and the model will have to be exported from fusion and uploaded to formlabs as a mesh format such as .stl. Another option is to use blender, which also uses mesh formats, but will offer endless custom texture design abilities. Which ever method you choose there should be a bunch of tutorials on UA-cam to get this done.
Easy tip for SVGS. Mark everything and make a 0mm offset, then work from that. Works much better.
This is a great help. So new too fusion the extrusions give me a aneurysm.
@peterpearson7171 I'm glad this video helped! I think Fusion does have quite a few quirks, and you can develop a unique workflow in most cases
lol, ouch. That sucks, but at least you were quick on the E Stop! What software calculated that? I saw quite a bit of bend on the Z axis. Lucky you didn't lose that hss endmill. Also, that coating is horrible. It's not recommended to use that coating on your endmill I don't think. TIAN? Avoid it.. it'll gum up and turn into a damn mess.. clogs.
Thanks for the tutorial! What CPU & GPU combo are you using? Your in-canvas rendering is pretty quick.
Thanks! I am using an older Intel i7 5960x cpu, with a Nvidia RTX3090. I think the rendering in Fusion does not utilize the gpu, only the cpu, though i could be mistaken. Another tip is to disable the 'ground plane' checkbox in the rendering workspace inside the scene settings window,, also use 'solid color' background - it should speed up significantly. I also found textures which have translucency depth may slow down rendering, so you can try edit that texture's translucency depth to a value of 0 in the appearance window.
I generally use SVG for many of my designs in Fusion the past year. Discovered quite a few issues in the way Fusion handles SVG imports. Manage to work around those issues but today I discovered a new issue. lol! Extruding a closed profile and it is adding faces and that causess filleting issues later in the design. Sometimes deleting those extra face work, sometimes not. I have a few posts in my Community section on this. One of these days I will create a video of the issues and maybe Autodesk will fix those issues. I am horrible at explaining these issues at the Autodesk Fusion forums and hopefully a video will do a better job.
LHD too ♥️
You're awesome, thankyou.
