Title: Kardboard Kings: Card Shop Simulator
Summary: Open your own Card shop by the seaside! Buy, trade and sell Cards, OR keep them for your own collection! You are Harry Hsu, a young man who recently inherited a card shop from his father, a former champion of the famous card game "Warlock." With the shop's reputation on the line, you start working behind the counter, juggling the locals' requests while trying to familiarize yourself with owning a shop. Your guide, Giuseppe, a fast-talking Cockatoo, helps you in your buying and selling journey - securing cards of various rarities to top collectors or helping an enthusiastic customer from the neighbourhood.
Release Date: Feb 10, 2022

Developer: Henry's House
Publisher: Akupara Games
Platforms: PC, Switch
Genres: Tycoon, collect-a-thon, card game
-----------------------
Kardboard Kings is a cozy management game where you run a card shop. The price you buy and sell cards at is dictated by market value, so The core gameplay revolves around ordering cards online based on predicted trends dictated by the news, and selling them for profit, as well as maintaining a good reputation.
Other than a few limited and repetitive events and more cards being added to the pool, the gameplay loop never evolves from this. You only ever get to sell six individual cards at a time, with no expansion opportunities for the shop and decorations being purely cosmetic. The buying mechanic too is fairly simple, with only a few options each day. You can also quickly learn which cards are under-priced and build a large stash of cheap cards to easily take advantage of long term trends without needing to attention to the news. The reputation too system is straightforward: you can max it out by simply being overly generous, resulting in a much busier shop long term. The Game+ mode adds taxes and harsher price fluctuations, but it doesn’t address the deeper balancing issues.
The recent Card Island update allows players to actually play the card game. The winner is decided through a mix of rock-paper-scissors mechanics and card power, with additional boosts from support cards of the same color, and diverse colours in play allowing you to draw extra cards. It's serviceable, but relies a lot on luck, and you don't get to build your own deck. The tournament also doesn't add to the story, and the prize for winning is not worth it.
Overall, Kardboard Kings is more of a cozy collector game than a solid management sim or card game. Story-wise, it ends suddenly and disappointingly after about 3 hours. You can continue to play, but there are no motivators other than collecting all the cards, and don't expect anything to change in the simple repetitive routine.

The Outer Worlds - Two Minute Review!
Thanks ! Always there
Thank you for this review and for saving me the time to play this.
I would 100% agree, i just played this and it was a claustrophobia maze confusion simulator. The vibe of the game is there but the game isnt "game`ing" 5/10 The setting and lore seems to be ok or even good but the design of maps gameplay is just tragic. I believe this would be a better game if it was a first person horror like Outlast, Bendy and the ink machine etc.
I was happy that for once, there was a free game that wasn't directed by Pixar. Then I look up this video and this game looks atrocious. 2005 video game in a movie ahh game.
thanks .. this is not a game therefore it is free ... Empyrion worth way more that this poor indy trash
where your character looks like she has vaseline covered over her and the environment. lol.
Thanks
59% is very generous
Maybe, but I did enjoy it! Certainly more than I was expecting based on the visuals.
Thanks for you dedication my man
This game is a bit of a masterpiece, man. 59% for a game this good is just wrong. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, of course, but IMO this is one of the best sci-fi games you can find out there. It has great mechanics, awesome graphics, great climbing, good story, great characters and performances, not one silly or cheesy dialogue, no stupid unnecessary humour, it's quite long..... an easy 9/10 for me.
What do you think, you're Batman, or something?
Thanks for always be there my man
These are so useful. Short, informative and to the point.
I really hope this channel blows up. It is very straight to the point and I always know what I'm getting into with every game.
Thanks again
Thanks again for your support akaji
got it for free on epic games. I think i'll skip this one
nice review. very precise
It was fun via remote play. Laggy sure, but the host carried just fine (on normal). lol
Hey there! Great video. As an R2 vet with a thousand hours, I wanted to add on to and address some of your points: - Redout and Redout 2 are their own thing distinct from the Wipeout series. While inspired by that and many others, you need to go into it with a fresh and open mind. As it doesn't play at all like Wipeout or others in the genre. It's more akin to piloting an aircraft but on a track (especially airborne). - I agree with the visual clutter. I think better color grading with more landmarks and shorter tracks would've helped a ton in making memorable tracks. Rewinds I think were used as an excuse for intentionally-hostile track design. Training Mode is offered to learn tracks through and through, but that shouldn't be used as a crutch either. Tracks should have flow and be easy to read, especially at the high speeds that the game engine allows and expects you to play at. There's technically 69 tracks counting forward and reverse, as well as the new VERTEX area. With now 12 boss tracks. That's a lot to memorize! - I also agree that the campaign could've been cut down significantly. Perhaps there could've been pilot tests in the Trials section that unlocked the later campaigns early. You can also skip most of the cosmetic events and go for the events that give you performance parts (the colored icons). For online play, because the playerbase is so small, we have a weekly event every Saturday at 2PM CST where we queue together. (Links to the Discord should've been in-game tbh) - The Trials leave a lot to be desired. One of the most important things not taught in-game is "counterstrafing" which allows you take turns much faster, akin to drifting. - It's gotten better over the years since its rocky launch, with QoL improvements with the latest patch. But like you mentioned, the damage has already been done to what would've been an awesome competitor to other AG racers. It's still got an amazing game engine at its core but most won't see that until you get way into the game. Despite all its drawbacks, as my first foray into the AG racing scene, I still very much recommend it. It's also clear with the Coming Soon! banners that the devs had high hopes for the game to do well, and there's lots of little examples of passion and attention to detail.
Absolutely fantastic looking game, how the fuck did i miss it scrambling through all local party games in existence, like how
Such a cool idea to put a percentage meter for how good the game is, clearly the author of channel is a smart guy
Absolutely love the channel, is name and concept, such a great format of vids
Its not that complicated. You have an easy mode and you can turn off a lot off settings that make the game more difficult when you're starting out. Also there is loads of how to videos on UA-cam.
I’ve had this game since the release of afterlife. I just can’t get into it..😢
Great review man, concise and to the point.
Clearly doesn't know what progression balance is. Considering this is one few games that gets it right. This includes costs for upgrading having relevance due to scarcity. The opposite of poorly balanced. It's really well designed.
There's fast travel, but it's unlocked late. And the game is also quite good with build versatility
You should take that other comment about your voice being perfect for ASMR to heart. It's true. But I was actually going to suggest the opposite. I was going to suggest you put a little spice into your voice. Your content is perfect but the delivery is a little monotone. I mean, I'm an old fart and I can look beyond the delivery looking for the good content but I guess most of your demographic will be young people, right?
Hey, that was me! Honestly, it seems like younger people like the more bombastic, "UA-camr voice." I'm 36 and I can't stand it when I click on a video and immediately have some zoomer screaming in my face with 100% energy. I feel like BYTM's delivery fits because it's not about him, it's about the game. No theatrics, no hype, just ~120 seconds of pure information and then done.
@@lightbringer502 I agree with everything you said. I’m just afraid some viewers may skip him because of his monotone delivery. I am definitely NOT suggesting the bombastic voice you mentioned. Just a little spice to make it a bit livelier.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely try a natural voice in a future video and see how it does, but i've got quite a strong Irish accent/lilt that can be hard for people to understand.
@@YourTimeMatters Fair enough. Yeah, thick accents will make it hard to understand and potentially scare ppl away. But if you can let some of your accent through but not too much to make it hard to understand.. it could even be part of the channel's charm
You're not an "old fart". Old farts wouldn't be telling people to do that idi0tic ASMR crap.
Oh nice another free meteoidvania!
While I absolutely love your short form reviews, your voice is PERFECT for ASMR. I'm tempted to stitch together all these 2 minute reviews into an hour long marathon video for relaxation.
Thanks, and Feel free to do what you want with my videos... but Not sure "ASMR Game Reviews" is what I want to be know for 😅
It's the first video of yours I watch and you earned my sub. If your low sub count is indicative of the channel being new, I see a bright future ahead of you. Just like the name of the channel, the review itself also respected my time and was just the right length. Well done. I hope to see this channel grow and learn much from its recommendations.
Thank you. I really appreciate it.
Got this game from Epic. Play it for Achievements. Fall in love with it cos the stories and characters
Thanks for the review! Despite the poor situation with online play, I am looking forward to this next week! I play fighters offline, so I hope I can get into it once I give it the time. Keep up the good work on the channel, I think your consistency and concise reviews are a valuable contribution to the video game review space on UA-cam. While documentaries on games are great, short reviews sharing the gist of a game are also important. Thanks again!
Your video help a lot to figure which epic GA to try, love your score system too
i cant tell if thats ur voice or an ai
should i die? or maybe not
Thanks for your vidéo man
I really appreciate your videos! c: what was that calming music that was playing throughout the video?
Thank you! It's not a real track, its just a 15 second clip I generated using Facebook MusicGen (you can find it on the HuggingFace website). Then did some manual editing in Audacity to smooth it and make it a loop
@@YourTimeMatters oh sick, thank you!
U have my subb gentleman, jus keep the 2-3 minutes review, there r channel which have 10 minutes, & in those 10 minutes they want to crack up some silly jokes jus to make it entertaining but it gets annoying actually, u value yr viewers time straight to the point 👍
i agree it got boring really quick
I played it on gamepass and enjoyed it. I think it was epic free claim before too but i missed it. But now i get a chance to beat it!
What are your favorite games ?
It's certainly not a horror game anyway! I think the game I got sucked into the most was "The Division" for a good period of time, but a lot of issues and developer decisions ruined it's potential. Other than that, just a few fun multiplayer games: Fortnite, Titanfall 2, Overwatch, Battlefield Hardline. Thats part of the reason I started this project. Playing a different game every week, even if its not great game, at least its a new experience and I actually find it a lot more fulfilling than adding another dozen hours to games I've already spent hundreds of hours on.
@@YourTimeMatters you find it more fulfilling that sharpening your skills and becoming better at a game ?
@@akaji3013 I'm actually not great at games, and largely play just for fun. Fortnite for example, i've been playing since the Beta, but I still have limited building skills because I think it's a game better played for fun than grinding. I'm decent at the games listed, I did get burned out playing the same few games over and over again. I personally just find playing a new game every week, to me, is a lot more mentally stimulating/rewarding.
Perfect timing, I was looking forward to this one.
It’s $10 it’s not a full priced game
Thanks! I've been curious about this one for a long time. Still want to check it out, but knowing the difficult aspects are good to know.
Doesn't required loading pal, you just always used fast travel.
I just came here to say your channel name is awesome. It's the brutal reality today that Time of a Person is the new "Realty" Wishing you more Success as a Creator Greets and ☮️✌️ from 🇮🇳🪷BHARAT.
Sadly, the game has too many bugs. Not sure if they will even bother to fix the "offline" bug. Lost all interest and won't spend another dime or any more time on this limited game.
Thanks man 😊
how many GB?
25 GB for me for Steam Version
@@YourTimeMatters thats a lot for a racing game. lmao ok I'll check it
I uninstalled it because it requires net to play a single player game
