Light Tackle Lake Trout#montana #trending #today #laketrout #icefishing #trout #trend #outdoors #fyp
Got a nice Lake Trout while out chasing crappie with light tackle! We got onto some nice crappie late in the morning only to have them chased away by a nice Lake Trout.
To say our gear was undersized is putting it lightly. Ray was fishing with a 13 Fishing Tickle stick with a Black Betty reel spooled with 2# Flouro with a jig From Northwoods Jig Company, northwoodsjigco.
The fish put up one heck of a fight. Giving Jake time to make a live well to make reviving the fish much easier and quicker. The Laker came up fighting and went straight back to the bottom just the same.

Thank you man this is what I’m going to do
@@Nativeoutdoor yeah dude! I always have a few flys and a bubble. Never know.
Nice bro! What lure and size are you using? I’m new to Kokanee fishing.
@@donsavanhbounlord4528. Swedish pimples. Bright colors/glo.
@@ReelMontana thanks
Ray is a baddass
@@zap2747 I agree.
I fished on this Same boat and killed it!

@@BobcatLawnandConcreteGeorgeBoy The “size matters” is a fishy boat for sure.
@@BobcatLawnandConcreteGeorgeBoy Joe is an awesome captain and a great guy. We are hoping to make it out again this summer.

Where is this it is my dream fish to catch
@@KTH915-cc3bb Northwest Montana! Echo Lake.
@@ReelMontana thanks
@@KTH915-cc3bb Big bass are fun thru the ice. I think that one was 4.5# or 5#.
@@ReelMontana Nice.
Springtime fun! 🎉
Bass season is finally here by my location I am so ready for some river Smallies
I get that. North end of Flathead lake just warmed up and the fatties moved in. This video was the first spawner of the year. Catch ‘em’ up.
There is better foam than that junk
For sure but that’s what I had.
what is the weight of the 10 ot
I believe it is 1.5 ounces.
@@ReelMontana ok thank you
Just bought this rig today and had no idea how to use it. Thank you for the simple and short “how to”!
You are welcome. Caught many big fish of all species on it. Try 2 different baits at a time and switch them from top hook to bottom until you see how the fish want it.
@@ReelMontana I often use night crawlers but recently got “crappie bites” from Walmart. Have you ever used them?
@@justjoefishing I have not. I have used leeches, minnows, meal worms, wax worms, maggots and cut bait.
is this lake stillwater or no
This particular fish is not from Stillwater.
The median full-time salary for a man is 63k and the median full-time salary for a woman is 54k. Combined salary for a man at the 50th percentile and a woman 50th percentile easily still affords a middle class lifestyle.
Lovin’ the springtime smallmouth fishing! 🎣
Wish we had Crappie close to Helena!
We have them but don’t know where they came from. Pretty crazy.
@@ReelMontana Bucket biology!
@@MontanaWalleyeAngler For sure!
Good stuff man!
Fun times.
The way it waved bye
Gotta love when they do that! My favorite part of releases.
The reason why the boat went slower with the fin on is because you didn't trim the motor up correctly for the top speed run. Because of the added lift generated by the fin it will cause the boat to run bow down if not trimmed up properly. When trimmed correctly there should be a slight increase in top speed, but nowhere near 10mph. The main advantage of a fin is better planning ability and a more fuel efficient cruise.
It did plane out for once. That was the main issue causing slower speed. When loaded with guys and gear. By my self I didn’t seem to change much though without power trim I couldn’t get it just right either. I ended up selling the boat. And now I kick myself daily. Shouldn’t have gotten rid of it. 😢
Hell yeah boys
Epic battle! Plus a 14” crappie right before the Laker. A good 2 fish day.
Wheels really 😂😂😂
Crazy stuff! 🤪
Great job. Awesome video.
Thank you. Was unexpected and a lot of fun.
You installed the hydrofoil the wrong way.
How’s that?
There it is…slabs!
Go reel montana
😃
Are pikes as hard to catch as people say they are
I would say no. They seem harder then most fish but people over exaggerate the difficulty.
Nah, big silver spoons near some kind of structure and you’ll get em pretty easily
@@trevorreid9142 You use big silver spoons ice fishing?
@@ReelMontana naw, bank fishing. For ice I’d go the old spear route. For a whole I’m not really sure what you’d use tbh
@@trevorreid9142 That makes more sense. I assumed he mentioned ice fishing.
Pike time🎉
You have it set wrong.
lol. So I’m told. I followed the directions until I lost the trigger down the hole twice. This way you don’t lose the trigger. Thanks for the heads up.
Can you say the best time of the year and where in Montana this is?
Best time of year is gonna depend on you. I love winter.
This was kootenia falls in September.
To answer what time of the year is best I would need to know what you enjoy doing the most.
Thanks for replying, I would love to go fishing for Salmon like you did in the video :) @@ReelMontana
@@AlbertoMonroy-lq2vw Well then mid September would be the best time. Salmon fishing hasn’t been very good since the year that was filmed. Numbers are way down. Very beautiful area too.
Slabs!🎉
🎣 Just a little guy!🎉
Greetings from a fellow Montanan! I just came across your channel. I love snagging salmon. I haven’t been there yet but I’m hoping to make it up there this year. Keep on keeping on! New sub.
Thanks for the sub. The last couple years the numbers have been way down at the falls. Still a blast and very beautiful.
Yeah man dad gum tell you somethin talkin bout mmmmhmm dropped the fish down the hole and splash splash takin a bath you know what I’m talkin bout man

8” of ice 🧊 with 8” of slush. 😮. But the fish are biting. 🎣 Gotta enjoy it while it lasts. 🎉
Beautiful pictures...take care 😢😅
Thank you! It was really cool.
What a winter surprise. Water freezes in Montana. Unreal
First time ever!
Lol for a week. We had no winter. Got negatives for a week. Now it's spring time feeling again. It's not that bad here. Not come at all. Unless you're not from here. In that case go home
@@user-vp5lb5zb1m Northwest Montana is amazing way better weather than I grew up with. ⛈️ Wish the negatives hung around for a few more weeks. 🧊 I always tell family back home it’s tropical weather here. 😂 They think it’s really bad weather here because we are so far north. 🎅
@@ReelMontana lived here my whole life. Weather is not bad here at all anymore. Very mild winters. 1996 it snowed 6 feet over night in flathead valley. We barely get a foot of snow all winter now. Use to stay around 10 degrees during winter. Now it's 25 to 40 during the winter. Not cold at all. More wet. Wish all the out state people would go back home where they came from tho. All us locals can't enjoy our home anymore . We're being ran out. All our recreational spots are filled with people not from here. Kind of annoying can't bring my kids to places I went growing up cause it's packed. Everywhere. Go home lol your not welcome
@@user-vp5lb5zb1m lol. 😂 I get that. People suck and have definitely changed the valley. Unrecognizable! 😢 Very sad. Seems the weather has changed everywhere. Dry and mild seems to be the trend…for now. Maybe we will get lucky 🍀 and the weather will get worse. ❄️ Hopefully!

I love a fish it's so funny
@@sylasstanley6690 🎣 Some fish try too hard to get back in the water and end up failing badly. Lol! 😂 Love it!😊
Thanks for such clear instructions. Looking forward to picking one of these up to use soon!!
Very welcome. Trying to help others learn.
It’s not designed to be a hook setter. It’s a tip up with benefits of the rod and reel to help fight the fish
This model is designed to be a hooksetter. It’s a newer design. The original is not a hooksetter only a tip up
I noticed you're putting the last eyelid of the rid into that metal thingy at the end and not rhe yellow string you attached. Is it supposed be set up in the eyelid of the rod or the string loop. If the eyelid, then what's the purpose of the string loop. Sorry if it's a dumb questiob, just trying to understand this gizmo...
Great question! The loop is for the Jaw Jacker and other hooksetters. So you wouldnt have one if you just bought the HT hookmaster. The biggest problem I have had with the HT is the metal pin falls off. So in my demo I hook the metal loop thru the eyelet so it cannot fall into the water. This is not the correct way to do it, but make little difference (in my experience). If you have the funds and it is legal I would buy a jaw jacker or HT Striker pro and next the auto fisherman or the snapper.
Thanks for the quick response, appreciate it. Happy fishing!
